I requested a simple hairdo for my daughter and hair and makeup for myself for a beach photo shoot. My previous family photo shoots were a bit of a waste since I had no professional makeup or hairstyling. I refuse to waste another one. Lani came 10 minutes earlier than requested so she could set up shop. Her husband helped deliver the directors chair and the smorgasbord of beauty supplies needed to do her magic. Lani makes it a habit of sanitizing all her brushes and sharpens all pencils to keep everything as bacteria free as possible. That's a great comfort to me as I am a hygienist by trade, thus cleanliness is my highest priority. She started with my face by moisturizing and priming it. She followed up with neutral, yet shimmery colors. I wanted to look beach sexy, not a bride. She read my mind and gave me a wonderful subdued, glamorous beachy look. I asked her to contour my face a bit but I had a feeling she was going to anyway. After doing the finishing touches of my makeup, she began curling my hair and gave me a bit of volume. For my daughter, she thought it best to add some curls and a small braid across the top for a bit of flair. I asked her not to spray any hair spray on her hair for fear of her inhaling extra chemicals. That may have been a mistake on my part since her curls loosened up too quickly from the moisture of the ocean. There were small areas of my hair and makeup that I wanted to change and Lani was more than happy to change them. You could tell that this was her passion and she thoroughly enjoyed making others their prettiest! Should you decide to hire her, give her an hour for makeup and another hour for hair. She is quite a perfectionist and won't stop until you both are happy. Her rates are more than reasonable especially compared to others on this island who aren't half as talented. Because she was trained in California where I'm from, I feel she has a fresh, different take on beauty compared to all the other girls who went to the same cosmetology programs on this island. Although it was different than what I usually go for, I ended up really liking my makeup look and loving my hair, as did the other girls. The downsides for me were that they ended up running pretty behind on the schedule, and when my aunt showed up to pick me up for the ceremony I wasn't even dressed yet. The girls never mentioned/addressed time or anything and I started getting pretty anxious to get going. They took my sister almost an hour late. We ended up double paying for them to valet park at the hotel, because we paid the hotel and we also paid the girls including the valet price.
