Scheduling was very easy -- they are responsive, communicate clearly, and are very helpful with figuring out what services and how many hair and makeup artists you'll need. They're also mindful of allergies, and asked ahead of time if I had any (I do) and worked with me to figure out what makeup products I could use. Dhyana was my makeup artist and she was fantastic. So skilled and so pleasant to work with. During my hair and makeup trial, she helped me figure out what I would need for the day-of, like a hair donut and lip color to match what she used on me for touchups throughout the day. Face Art Beauty's Dyhana and Cheryl are simply SPECTACULAR!! I searched for about a month trying to find artists who provided the right look, the right services and professionalism with references (stellar reviews) all within my budget (hey! Weddings are expensive!). Face Art Beauty delivered all that 2-fold. Upon contacting them I received a response within 24 hours. I was sent a price list for them to come to my home to do my wedding makeup & hair, my bridesmaid makeup and hair and I later added a fifth service to have my mother's makeup done as well. The minimum of services for them to travel to you is 4 services. This can be a combination of hair and makeup. The services averaged about $100/per service and was worth *every* penny. They send you an invoice on PayPal to secure your spot (50% deposit) and the remaining balance is due within 72 hours of the day of the event. The day of my wedding the lovely ladies arrived on time with their tools and bags of tricks to pretty me up as much as possible for the big day. They made me feel comfortable and at ease immediately. They were so very kind, professional and listened to our concerns and requests while still applying their art in a way that did each of us justice. I even had an older friend of ours that insisted Dyhana go upstairs and fix the groom's hair as well... She was too kind and obliged after she was done with my hair. I was referred by a relative who lives on Oahu, as we were traveling there and had decided to do professional photos there during our vacation. I am so glad I chose Face Art Beauty. Face Art Beauty did my makeup when I was a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding. They were prompt, friendly, confident, and timely. The end result was awesome and represented their experience in event makeup very well. Personally, I wanted them to do makeup and hair (MUAH) for my upcoming wedding as well, but with five bridesmaids, I was unable to fit them into my budget. This is not to say they aren't worth it though, if you have the money! :) My experience as a bridesmaid and as an inquirer was excellent. Dhyana. Is. Amazing. I met her at the Ko'olau Ballrooms Expo where FAB was selling its lashes at a $5 discount. Score! She informed me she'd be doing my makeup, so I could just bring the falsies with me at our appointment. Since I had to be at Ko'olau Ballrooms at 8am on my wedding day, she came in at 5:30am to do my hair and makeup on a Saturday. Not only did she arrive early, but she also looked gorgeous with her own makeup all did & proper. My sister/MOH was blown away by the professional yet fun nature of the appointment, and commented that although she previously thought hair/makeup was something that family could do for you, she now believes it's essential to use a makeup/hair professional on such an important day. Before I got married last summer, I knew I wanted to look gorgeous and va-va-voom fabulous --- all without looking like a tranny, of course. I didn't want to look unrecognizable, either. Just a glammed up version of myself. Nor did I want an "au natural" makeup and hair job either because I hafta look at my ugly mug in the mirror everyday --- why the f*ck would I wanna look like my plain Jane old self on my wedding day?! Lastly, the makeup needed to be able to withstand such factors such as my oily skin, bright sun, and high humidity since I would be getting married at 1:30 p.m. right in the middle of Foster Botanical Gardens. I shuddered at the thought of my makeup running down my face and me looking like a demented clown as I'd get ready to kiss my future husband.* *(The previous week, I had had a makeup/hair trial session with another artist who couldn't guarantee that my makeup could hold up to the prior conditions listed. I spend a $100+ on it and the makeup started smearing and coming off a few hours later.) So, two months before my wedding, I scoured through the Yelp forums, Yelp reviews, conducted Google searches, and went through reviews on WeddingWire.com on a mission to find a makeup artist/company who could make me feel like a Hollywood star that day, and less like RuPaul. After eliminating it down to about a dozen companies, I started contacting each one through e-mail and requesting quotes for my big day. A few of the companies were already booked for that date. I submitted a request through Face Art Beauty's online form and was contacted a little over 24 hours later with availability and a quote. Talk about Speedy Gonzales! I ended up booking FAB for my wedding day (July 18, 2013) for myself and 3 bridesmaids (2 of us got makeup/hair and the other 2 got makeup only) and for just myself for my wedding reception (July 20, 2013). The fee for my makeup and hair styling session included makeup application (including airbrushing of foundation*), hairstyling, and application of fake eyelashes (I provided my own set of false eyelashes). I booked them without doing a trial session ahead of time based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews, numerous photos I had seen of their work, and the trust that was built with Dhyana/FAB over the course of our numerous e-mails. *(Note: My skin is mixed and can get oily very fast, so it was recommended that I get airbrushing done because it would stand up in the long run.) My wedding day came and Dhyana and Jaime arrived at my place a little earlier than the agreed upon time to start setting their stuff up. They are both such genuine, down-to-earth, and laid-back souls; it honestly felt as if it was just of girlfriends getting together for a makeup party. They were cracking jokes, being upbeat, and talking stories as if we had known them for years. I have to echo some other reviews that mention how relaxing it was to be around their presence. My makeup sesh for both days passed by like a breeze and I felt like a homecoming queen for both events. And, true to Dhyana's word, my makeup withstood the nearly 89-degree Fahrenheit, muggy, sunny, and hot-as-Satan's-armpit weather the day of my wedding. My ceremony took nearly an hour and I was sweating like a pig. I had to dab my forehead too many numerous times to count, but everything was kept intact. The pictures I uploaded were taken AFTER my ceremony and several gallons of sweat and my makeup looks fantastic. Hands down, I would give them 10 stars if I could! I wear make-up every day to work, but have never been a pro. My eyebrows are light so it's always a challenge to get them to be just right. I also would love to wear false eyelashes for special occasions, but get so stressed out with application that I usually end up pulling them off before I go out. Jaime did my make-up for my wedding and I loved how my photos came out (not to mention I got a ton of compliments the day of and when I showed my photos to people), so I knew that if I went to a class she would be able to give me some helpful tips. I was able to go to a class at the Hifi Co-op at Ward Warehouse which was a perfect location--parking was easy and there was lots of space to spread out all of our make-up. I brought my own make-up, which was really good because I was able to learn how to best apply what I already had. Jaime walked us through each step, and Dhyana and the other Face Art Beauty artists were there to assist. The best part about the class was I learned specifically which tools and brushes I should use, how to get that natural look for my eyebrows that I have been desperately needing help with, and got to practice proper false eyelash application technique. They taught me how to use what I already have to do everyday looks and some glamour makeup too. I really liked that it wasn't a scam where they bring you to class and then try to force their products on you. You can bring your own things or makeup you bought that you don't know how to use and they'll answer it all! Lorraine went above and beyond with my make up trial and hair/make up for my wedding day, and I absolutely loved the end result! Since it was a destination wedding, I coordinated everything through email with Dhyana. The process went smoothly. My make up trial started right on time, and since I hadn't eaten lunch yet, Lorraine was kind enough to offer me snacks and water. She spent a lot of time making sure I was happy with the make up look, and we went over my eyebrows (one of my top concerns) a few times to make sure it wasn't too bold but also defined enough for pictures. On my wedding day, she arrived at my hotel bright and early at 6am since I had to leave for my venue at 8:30am. We did my hair first and my make up second (once there was enough natural lightning). I was astounded when I looked in the mirror afterward. I still looked like myself, but a more glamorous version, which was exactly what I was going for. Dhyana is amazing! She did my makeup for my engagement photoshoot (trial run) and also for my wedding day. She took my feedback at the trial run, gave me the exact look I wanted, and remembered it for the wedding day. I asked her if she did tattoo cover ups and she said no, so I hired another MUA to do it. On the morning of my wedding day, the cover-up MUA came first, and Dhyana came afterwards to do my face makeup + 4 BM's makeup. Things got a bit chaotic after the other MUA left and part of my cover-up makeup noticeably rubbed off. She didn't want to come back to fix it so Dhyana smoothed out the tattoo makeup afterwards even though that wasn't her responsibility, and also calmed my nerves down a ton while she was doing my face makeup. Hello! Let me begin with the disclaimer that I am in the wedding business. However, I am writing as a client since I was honored that Face Art Beauty did our hair and make-up! I have always seen in the past their amazing work, but it's always wonderful when you can express from firsthand experience. First and foremost, Dhyana is great to work with. She always responds in a timely manner (especially for the islands!). She is always clear in her emails and accommodating as much as she can be. So, on to my personal experience. I hadn't surfed in weeks and thought it would be a good stress-reliever to do so 5 days before the wedding. My skeg hit my face and I was left with a swollen face, cut on my cheekbone, and VERY black eye. Honestly, I didn't care too much - I'm not one of those who would cancel my wedding based on this. BUT I will say how amazing the make-up was. Gretchen not only covered it up, but she made it UNDETECTABLE. Anyone who saw my instagram was utterly perplexed. you can look it up on their before and after shots, Seriously CRAZY stuff. I had tried to cover it up at home to no avail but Gretchen did it within minutes. Andrea was also fabulous and FAST with the hair. This is my own personal thoughts, but a lot of times us Asians show hair stylists up-dos that we see on pinterest on blond models and it just doesn't look the same. I totally understand why it doesn't look the same but sometimes I feel it looks a lot "messier". Andrea did a beautiful job of keeping each ringlet clean (if that makes sense) and of keeping each girls' vision in mind. Besides that, my favorite part was the makeup itself! I sweat a lot. Especially on my face. But you would never know with their make-up. I never felt that anything would run but yet it definitely felt light (we had airbrush). After 10+ hours of having that make-up and some heavy duty dancing, I can honestly say it held up without even a second thought. Finally, for those thinking of the timing. They have it down to a science! Tell them that you need it done by 2pm and they'll have it done by 1:45pm at the latest. Awesome awesome! They need to rename the company to "Face Art Beauty Magicians" because I have no idea how my makeup stayed shine free through my hot and muggy engagement photoshoot. Now, I'm no stranger to makeup; I've used primers, setting sprays, setting powder, etc. But I still manage to get an oil slick on my face which, was totally prevented that day. My hair, I asked for loose curls and they had made the curls tighter than I'd like but they assured me that it would loosen up (and it did!). Not to mention, they were quick, yet thorough.
