She has, however, progressively begun aggressive behaviour towards other dogs, and manipulative behaviour with us over the last year and we were at wits end to try to effect a change. Another local trainer who doesn't handle aggression referred us to Cheryl at Last Paw who met with us for an evaluation session within a couple of days. Cheryl quickly identified 'in-house' manipulative behaviour that Tessa was doing to control us and showed us how easy it was to begin to modify. We have booked several follow-up sessions to work on the dog-on-dog issues. Cheryl is an animal psychology professional, and I do not use this term lightly. If you meet her you will quickly learn how little most of us understand about simple bad habits in owner behaviour that enable all the undesirable habits in our dogs. She is very gentle but assertive and had our Tessa eating out of her hand in minutes. My wife asked her to move in with us. We look forward to our next session in a couple of days.

When we got them back they went from completely untrained to trained in every way! Door manners, in the car, on the leash, and other basic commands, you name it! They were crazy about food and now they will sit in front of food and wait to eat it when they are told. It's amazing! We then brought them back for a tune up when our son was born. It was awesome knowing they were with people who knew them and loved them. Our dog Charlie ran and jumped in the lake immediately! Happy as can be. A huge shoutout to Derrick! When our son was born 4 weeks early he went out of his way to pick our dogs up when we were stuck at the hospital. He truly loves the dogs and cares about the families. You can tell this is his passion and it shows through his work! Lastly, Anthony has been fantastic to work with throughout too! Due to him and Derrick we will continue bringing our dogs back here when we need boarding knowing they are in the BEST hands. Our dog came home with a scab on his neck from the E-collar which has made me choose not to even keep up with this form of training. If the collar doesn't hurt them then why does our dog have a visible injury on his neck. He came home more anxious and trembling which he never did before when we reprimanded him. I believe our dog was one of many dogs and they should not have taken on more than one dog at a time. This program was a waste of $2600 and our dog spent 18 days away from us only to come home not potty trained with no schedule. The owner Daniel was not apologetic and defensive of his program. He never apologized for my dog sustaining an injury from their e-collar usage. I absolutely do not recommend this type of training for small, companion dogs. Our dog is stubborn because the breed is notorious for that but he should have been sent home if he wasn't responding well to training. Instead the collar was mis-used and I don't trust anything related to this method or company any more.

John was absolutely amazing with my Golden Retriever Arlo. You can tell that John truly loves what…read morehe does, and builds a strong working bond with the dogs he trains. When Arlo and I started with John, Arlo was almost a year old. Arlo was very high energy, strong-willed, and also very stubborn for a golden retriever. John was very patient and taught me how to manage Arlo's high energy in order to make training effective. After a single session, I could tell Arlo was very receptive to John and loved seeing him each session. My favorite part of John's training is his reward of love and praise. This was HUGE to me. I did not want to train Arlo to be solely reliant on getting food or treats as a reward, because in emergency situations, treats will not always be available. Arlo thrived on getting love and praise, which also cemented my own bond and trust with Arlo.      During each session, John would work with Arlo and demonstrate his training techniques, as well as the rationals behind them. He would then have me work Arlo myself and give me tips on how to appropriately communicate to Arlo what I was expecting with each command. If at any point I did not understand, John was more than happy to reinforce the training techniques with me so I would be clear and consistent with Arlo when I would work with Arlo 1:1 at home.      After working with Arlo for a few months, mine and Arlo's working relationship has grown. He will now follow commands off leash and with his off-leash recall perfected, it has allowed Arlo to have more off-leash free time without the fear of him running off. This is all due to the love, praise, and trust foundation that John lays at the beginning of all training. Thank you so much John for all you have done for Arlo!

I can't even express how glad I am that we found Dawn! Her training style and personality fit perfectly with ours. Dawn has a special gift and connection with dogs, our Bentley (8 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) absolutely loved her. Everything about her training made sense, from start to finish, as she explained (and re-explained, if necessary). She bonded with our Bentley, he came to respect what she was teaching and he was willing to please and obey when she was with him. Dawn gave us homework each week, with handouts as reminders, and did a recap at the beginning of the following week. After training hours, she even sent us a video of her demonstrating the process with her own dog once when we couldn't quite get a certain technique. We didn't always do our homework 100%, but Dawn was able to move forward and teach Bentley the next lessons. We have a lot to learn still and it is a daily learning process for both dog and owner, but are thrilled that we met Dawn. I am already considering bringing her back for a recap and tweaking in a few months. I highly recommend Dawn and Coast Dogs, no reservations whatsoever.
