I showed up bright and early for a follow up appt with Dr Jessie West this morning (9/15) and was told that my appt was 3 days prior (9/12). :-( I went home and checked my appt card - turns out I was correct. Nothing against Dr Jessie, she's great, but the office staff really need to pay attention to what they are doing. They wrote the appt card and handed it to me. I put the meeting on my calendar and showed up on time. I followed up with a note on the patient portal. still waiting to hear back. Update: Sadly, 10 days later, still no response from the Kaufmann Clinic and my message in the customer portal hasn't even been read. Guess it's time to find a new PCP. read more

This practice cares more about your covid vaccination status than you as a person. I am a fit and healthy 30-something and I came into the office for an entirely covid-unrelated concern. Dr. Kauffman walked into the room, announced there was nothing "we" could do about my concern, and then proceeded to aggressively lecture me about the vaccine. I told him I wasn't there to talk about the vaccine but he didn't drop the subject. I won't be back to this office. read more

I've gone to the Kaufmann Clinic for a few years now and each time something has happened to sour my visit. I am Hard of Hearing with double hearing aids and a auditory processing disorder. I tell the staff this every time I come to the office in hopes of stopping any bad interactions. Recently, I was calling to place an appointment for a physical and front desk person I was talking to decided that the best course of action to deal with my disability was to yell at me about the fact that she was on speaker, which she wasnt. This plus the disregard, annoyance, and sass I received when I asked her to repeat herself led me to believe that she thought I was lying about my disability ( a common occurrence because I am a young adult). This led to me never wanting to call the office again but I have no other choice because every time I try to go to the online portal to make an appointment or send paperwork I get blocked out and have to send them an email request, which never gets responded to. (I did end up making that appointment but then they ended up leaving me in a room for an hour because they "forgot I was there" since no one wrote anything on the door or told anyone I had arrived) read more

Yet again disappointed with the Kaufmann Clinic. My family and I have been going there for over 30 years. During the last ten years, we have experienced misdiagnoses (hives were diagnosed as a fungal rash), lost prescriptions (between their office and pharmacy), constant nursing/intern staff turn over, ignored symptoms (90 y-o mother-in-law came with a bleeding head wound from a fall - it was ignored), and billing issues where "creative accounting" was used. They rely on snail mail for billing notifications when other doctors have gone to digital portals and email notifications. They refuse treatment based on monetary concerns. The left hand has NO idea of what the right hand is doing, and "check out time goals" seem more important than the patients. read more

Talk about feeling like a monkey on a conveyor belt. My husband has visited Dr. Kaufmann twice. On the first visit, he had a full physical including lab work. On the second visit he only had blood work. Dr. Kaufmann was cordial and polite and the office was clean. The staff were the most pleasant part of his in-person experience but Dr. Kaufmann was nothing to brag about. In fact, if it weren't for the staff, this would be a 2-star review. It turns out that my husband has high cholesterol and neither one of us were surprised given his exercise and eating habits. The doctor prescribed Crestor and made the comment that he has been taking the drug himself for over 10 years--first red flag. Both of us are anti-take-drugs-for-life-unless-it's-essential especially given our age (under 35). Anyway, he left the doctor's office for a prescription but no diet plan or a list of foods to avoid. Luckily, there's Google. He was told to check a lab hotline for his other non-cholesterol lab results in 2-4 days. We checked the hotline numerous times and a voicemail was never left. We had to personally call the office a week later to ask for his lab results. Luckily everything was ok. At his 6 wk follow-up, my husband expected to see the doctor, get an updated cholesterol reading, and talk about his treatment plan. Well, imagine the opposite of those things and you'll have a good idea of what actually happened. He didn't see the doctor, he had blood drawn, and was told to call the lab hotline with results. Well, at least this time the doctor did leave a voicemail. But...it was the shortest, most abrupt voicemail that I've ever heard from a doctor. He basically blurted out a number without saying what the number was. Cholesterol readings are usually comprised of three different numbers. After blurting out the number and the fact that his liver was ok the doctor simply said bye. Ummmmm....?? Our veterinarian has left better, more detailed voicemails. Of course we weren't happy so we called the doctor's office and was transferred to a nurse's voicemail. We left a message at 4 PM and never received a call back from them. Later the next day, we called again and a girl with an attitude answered the phone. After being put on hold for a while, the receptionist told us that his reading was good and to stay on the drug until he has another follow-up in 3 months. Finally, some guidance! Patient education is not a strength of The Kaufmann Clinic. If you aren't the type to ask a lot of questions and you want to just get in and out without knowing what anything means, then you'll be fine here. Otherwise, find a different doctor. I know we will. Oh I did forget to mention one positive. When the doctor prescribed Crestor, he gave my husband a complimentary 6 week supply. Very much appreciated! read more

Well I consider my search for a competent, caring, intelligent and professional like Dr Kaufmann my prize finding! Sound silly? Not when you're staring death in the face for 18 months, watch the career you sweated blood to get jerked from under you by the same incompetent excuses for "Dr's" you work beside to save live's every day! What the outside world is just beginning to see is what we as medical professionals have expected for years, and we could do nothing but stand helplessly by as socialized healthcare invaded our country. Yep! Like it or not, it's the truth. I am both a very proud patient of Dr Kaufmann and a charge registered nurse for one of the largest healthcare entities in the southeast. Can they be rude? YES, and Dr Kaufmann may seem short or abrupt, but the restraints that have been placed on him by the Medicare monster make it impossible to do the job he loves. Yes, Medicare is the standard from which all the healthcare industry operates. Though you may not "have it", it's rules and regulations set the standards for the entire industry. NEWS FLASH! It's not getting any better, IN FACT, EXPECT IT TO GET MUCH, MUCH WORSE. I've seen and worked beside the top Trauma Surgeons in the SE, witnessed absolute miracles from the hands of doctors and nurses. But, sadly, this situation is making these great providers walk away from what once was the desire of their hearts. It's still happening! Let me vouch for Dr Kaufmann and his staff. I believe I am a tougher critic because I know, I mean I REALLY KNOW what should be going on, and that more often than not, turns the medical professionals off, and they will go out of their way to make me literally suffer as much as possible, just so they're not agreement with anything I suggest. My medical condition was the result of some unfortunate circumstances and most people that deteriorate to my condition don't recover and die. I would be on that list if I hadn't gotten to The Kaufmann Clinic. He literally saved my life. Actually, the labs that came back made me sick to look at because there's no reason I should have lived to the day I met him. Because my "suggestions" for labs and X-rays were so purposely ignored and flat out refused, I am now in a state, I may never fully recover. Now when you find yourself in this position, knowing this could have easily been prevented by competent doctors - - talk about a mid-life crisis! So this is not a public announcement for his bid for the presidency (though we'd be better off), but the bottom line truth: I'll take the rudeness, disorganized, slow acting office staff and I'm even willing to let Dr Kaufmann be occasionally abrupt. Because, unlike the regular Joe Patient, I have been behind the scenes. Drs of his intelligence are a rare find. I'm staying till they get a gun and run me off the campus. I've seen the worst of the worst and I know when I see a competent, even above expectations physician. Just one more thing. Yes, he does play golf. What's your relief? You better hope he hits the course often, so his head is clearer when you need him! I tend to think someone who has made it through pre-MED, medical school, internship and residency that isn't CRAZY deserves to golf any and every time he can! This man is the reason I am still filling my lungs with O2! Be thankful for the skill set he possesses when your life is hanging in the balance, forget the stuff that doesn't matter. After every appointment, they give you a number and tell you to call it to get the results. However, every time I've called it there are never any results posted. I always have to finally call the office and get someone to give me the results, and it's never the doctor who talks to you, so one wonders if the person telling you the results is even reading the correct information. One more thing, I agree with Stephanie F. that at Kaufmann, the first response to a health issue such as cholesterol is to put you on a drug. Mine was high once and without even asking me the doctor said, "I'm going to write you a prescription for Crestor." I said, 'Wait a minute! Can't I try to exercise and change my eating habits?" Doctor said, "Well...okay, but if it's not lower the next time you come in then I want to put you on Crestor." I was agreeable to that. Months later when I came in, my cholesterol was in the normal range. If it were up to them, I would still be on some drug. Remember folks, Socrates famously said, "Medicine shall be my food and food my medicine." Medical school does not teach nutrition as an approach to health. They are taught to rely on pharmaceuticals because it takes more time to get to the source of the health problem then it does to write a prescription that will only treat the symptom while masking the real problem. read more

This has been my primary care office for three years or more. Well, the staff really is like keystone cops. I even heard one reception person tell an overweight patient what a waste Weightwatchers is, and it is still one of the few things out there that works. I absolutely hate going here Dr. Nesmith is the rudest non-professional Doctor I have ever been too I was forced to change my doctors due to no more benefits provided to me by Walmart after 9 years of service. She has never even examined me never asked me any medical questions as why I was taking certain meds. I brought in a bit of paperwork from Kaiser showing all my diagnoses and medications with dosages and such she never bother to get my file to look. I was needing to fill out my leave paperwork as I have been on an intermittent leave since 2015, you would have thought I was asking for a million dolllars. She cut all my medications back drastically mainly my Tramadol and Xanax which I was getting 90 a month of each with Kaiser. She just kept repeating all she could do was 30 a month of each, I have been on Tramadol for my fibromyagia and other chronic pain issues for over 9 years. With this being said I went through major withdrawls that caused to miss nearly 3 months of work. She finally went up to 45 a month on my Tramadol still not asking why I needed it her directions on the bottle reads take 1-2 tablets every 4-six hours for pain I have been trying my best to take 2 a day only that would mean this is only a 22 day supply she will not refill it till it has been a month. I spoke the CDC today and found out she and The Kauffman Clinic have violated several provisions per the opiate guidelines, they are suppose to work with you and keep you well while taking these prescriptions and cannot cut you back where it could lead to any type of withdrawls. I called again yesterday my script will at 30 days on the 28th yesterday was the 23rd she still would not refill it so now I am in complete panic mode. I want her to walk in some of our shoes and see how she likes to be treated like a number not a person, nothing worse that a doctor that will not listen. I am now in search of a new doctor again. My experience with Dr. Kaufmann was totally different then the other couple that wrote their review. I found Dr. Kaufmann to be very professional and personable, and have recommended him to my friends and family. I once emailed him during business hours because I had an allergic reaction to something and had no idea what it could be. I described the symptoms to him and he told me to come into the office as soon as I could, but before I even got to his office he looked at my records to see what medications I was taking and he knew what the problem was. I was allergic to a medication that I had been taking for about 5 years. I've also witnessed how compassionate he is to the elderly patients he sees. I used to see another local Doctor, and went to him for 5 years and he was also good but he wanted you back in his office every 90 days and if he changed your meds he wanted to see you in 2 weeks and then again in 90 days and always had lab work done everytime you came in and was always trying to referr you to see other Drs.(maybe he was getting some kind of kickback for referring out patients.) I feel like he was just wanting to bill the insurance companies to make the most money he could. I much preferr going to Dr. Kaufmann. read more

Dr. Kaufmann is a very good doctor. Even though he moves a little fast, believe me he hears your concerns. I used to work for him and at first and was a little nervous around him but soon learned that he is not so bad. He genuinely cares about people and takes into consideration all factors relating to diagnoses. He is a little arrogant but he's the child of a doctor and a young well-respected doc himself. I find Dr. Kaufman both extremely professional and courteous with a good ear for hearing what you say without going on and on. There are pamphlets to guide you and he's so good I have referred every relative I have and every person I know to Dr. Kaufman and his new Harvard Grad. I've been seeing Bobby as my primary for years and he always gives me and my family the best advice and treatment. I find him very convenient at two different locations and he's always great about sharing his personal experience/story with you to encourage better eating habits, exercise, or when just trying out a new medication. Every time I bring up something new in the medical area via internet, he seems on top of it with his thoughts and opinion. With reimbursements being cut by the government these days, it's hard for any doctor to give you a personal touch. Those complaining about no personal touch, maybe you should go pay $10k a year for a concierge service. Thanks for being there over the years! read more

An absolute unprofessional place! I have seen Dr. Nesmith twice and each time I had labs drawn. She seems ok, but I was a little uncomfortable during my second visit, because she came into the waiting room with two other people and never bothered to introduce them, or tell me who they were, so it made my visit with her awkward, because I could not really talk to her and asked personal questions like I wanted to. I called the office about three weeks after that visit to find out my second test results, since no one ever called or even sent a letter. I was transferred a nurses voicemail and left a message and it has been over a month, still no has returned my call. So, I call today to follow-up, got transferred back to the nurse's station, only to be put on hold for over seven minutes, and the nurse never came back to the phone. It is time to search for another primary care physician. This time, I will read the reviews, before I choose! read more

I saw one of the Dr's in Atlanta on Peachtree road, and he gave me a prescription for high blood pressure, but after the 4th day of taking it, it gave me a horrible nightmare that had me screaming in my sleep. I called and asked for another prescription and the side effects was that I could have another nightmare. So I had to cancel the prescription. The Dr. said that I would have to take that medicine anyway. I told him NO THANK YOU! and I never went back. The staff was not friendly. I felt stressed when I was around them and like something was just not right. So glad I decided not to go back. I found something online to pull down my blood pressure and it works! and NO side effects. But losing weight helped pull my blood pressure down. I lost 4 pounds and my blood pressure went down some, just losing 4 pounds and cutting down on my salt. read more

If I could give them zero stars, I would. My previous doctor moved away, so I chose to start seeing Dr. Nesmith at the Kaufman clinic. The practice is very close to my house, and she's Emory educated- seemed like a good idea. I really don't have anything bad to say about Dr. Nesmith herself, but the rest of the staff is HORRIBLE. They are the most unorganized, uneducated bunch of people I've ever had to deal with! I've been to the office twice, and now they want me to come in for a third visit in about a 6 month period- and I'm not sick! Evidently, needing a routine birth control prescription requires being seen every 5-6 months or more?? Not to mention the trouble I had actually getting the prescription in the first place! That took 3 months and about a dozen phone calls to their very incompetent support staff! I'm not joking at all! Do not go to this practice! I'm pretty sure they're trying to commit insurance fraud by requiring healthy people to come in for exams so often. Either that, or the support staff is set on default to tell you to come in no matter what simple thing you need. Absolutely terrible practice! read more

Dr. NeSmith is fabulous; she is young and energetic and thinks outside the box, unlike the traditional physicians who are pill pushers. Dr Nesmith is very attentive. She's a very intelligent and thorough doctor. She addressed all of my concerns/symptoms carefully and the treatment she prescribed worked. It's clearly a very busy practice so I expected to wait a while but I did not have to wait long at all and the entire staff was considerate and friendly.
