In the middle of a snow storm we managed to arrive at The Keg 2 and a half hours late! Anyways i ordered the salmon, which was good. But i noticed the portion was cut right in half, even the amount of vegetables that came with the dinner was sparse. The Billy Minor pie was also cut in half as far as portion control was concerned. We shared it, but nothing like the last time we were at the keg, which was probably a few months ago. The service was good, but that was all. This was the first time coming to Keg in 10 years. I was told to get the Prime Rib because it would be the best for me to have (I don't eat red meat but I wanted to try), unfortunately they did not have any left when we went...seems kinda weird but it was the end of the week so they ran out. Can't say anything bad about the Keg, last time I went was for a friend's birthday and I had a great time. The servers made sure the party was treated well. I ordered a lobster something don't really remember but it was plated beautifully and it tasted great! Drinks were nice too and of course going to a place like the Keg you can expect a beautiful ambiance while eating there very nice feel being inside there. Went there for dinner and ordered the similar things we did before, quality and service are consistent with the one we went back in North York. I just wish their kids menu would have the options of pasta and their mini burgers tasted delicious for us but a bit "too adult" for our 5 year old. The burger could be more moist and thinner. My not-so-picky picky eater quite enjoyed their complimentary bread so the nice server brought us another one when we finished our first before our mains were served. It was a great night at the Keg. We have been to many Keg restaurants over the years and have never received the level of service we did tonight. Our server (Mary Rose) was unbelievable. She recommended dishes and catered to us non stop (in a good way). I had the baked salmon which was moist and perfectly cooked. The steamed vegetables were slightly crunchy and very tasty. My husband had the baseball steak medium rare which was also perfectly cooked. Wonderfully creamy garlic mashed potatoes. A wonderful cranberry twist martini with a pretty awesome huge square ice cube and real cranberries floating in it topped off the night. We will definitely be back to this location. This is my favourite restaurant but not a good night for quality. Lobster was dry, steak slightly overdone and would have preferred to place leftovers in my own box. We didn't complain because we wanted to get in and out. The new restaurant is a lot nicer. Not sure if quality is dropping because of being bought by a large chain or just a bad night. Slow. As in maple syrup in February SLOW. Perhaps a one-off? Dinner for 6 people, on a Thursday evening, should not take 3 hours. Water glasses empty for extended periods... Give those host-lets at the front a better understanding of "slowing" so the kitchen (or bar in some cases) can keep up. Better to have an empty table for 20 minutes than a PO'd customer who may write a bad review, isn't it? We didn't go to the keg to eat bread or salad. I had a fabulous experience here. We came here to celebrate my friends' B'day and the food and service were perfect! We ordered the calamari, but the waitress thought we also ordered escargot and brought one out. She removed it from the bill when we casually mentioned we hadn't ordered it. She told us to keep it and enjoy it, so we did. Both appetizers were awesome! For the main course, we ordered the New York strip loin steak, the Seafood Chicken deluxe, and an order of King Crab legs and Lobster tails. My medium rare steak was cooked to perfection and included sautéed mushroom (no extra charge), the lobster and crab legs were tender, and the chicken was tasty. We all enjoyed our meal. At the end of the meal, the waitress brought out a large complimentary slice of their Billy Miner pie! It was heavenly, and all 4 of us devoured it! The Keg has become dated. This one seems to have issues with getting your steak cooked correctly. My parents "Well Done" steaks always seem to be either pink or even bloody in the middle. This is an ongoing issue over multiple visits. You would figure a steak place could cook steak. Just not consistent enough to justify the over inflated prices. Buy a good steak and research oldschool charcoal grilling...you'll make better steaks at home at 1/3 of the price. Plus if you can tell time, you can cook it correctly too...as they can't at the Keg. On the upside the service is always great and the atmosphere is consistent, but you never know if you're going to be able to eat your food as it may not be cooked correctly. I just don't need a member of my dinner party to watch us all eat, then eat their steak as we are eating dessert all because an incompetent cook couldn't flip a steak when a timer went off... With what they charge, they should be able to pay a real chef...not a bunch of line cook minions that always seem to screw up something on every visit. I seriously have 2 gift cards in my wallet from bad experiences that I am afraid to use, because I just know I'm not going to get what I ordered (and cooked correctly) read more

I was here for dinner Saturday night, June 10th. We ordered the Korean Fried Cauliflower to share. It was okay. There was zero heat and I was expecting it to be crispy. Maybe I'm spoiled with the KFC they have at Carbon Bar which is delicious. The Keg's version was severely lacking. My companion had the ahi tuna for her main. The menu said it would come with cabbage slaw and a soy sesame dressing. It came with buttery rice. No slaw at all. no soy sesame dressing. The tuna was not seasoned. I had the cauliflower steak. I guess they serve this rare because it was uncooked and crunchy. I think they just painted on grill lines. Honestly if it was over heat for more than a minute I'd be shocked. The chickpeas and olives stuff on top tasted okay and was much needed as I don't think the cauliflower was seasoned or oiled as it was pretty raw and dry. The asparagus was steamed and unseasoned. Why they don't grill this with some salt and pepper I can only wonder. I know for sure they have grills back there. I had a side of garlic mashed potatoes which I quite enjoyed. The bread and butter was also good. Our waitress was lovely and enthusiastic, Rosemarie something I think her name was. There seemed to be a manager going around asking how everything was who missed our table entirely which is a shame as I would have gladly given him the same feedback I'm giving here. read more

Being that I was staying at the Courtyard Marriott just as short walk away, I was here after dinner every night at the bar sampling the apps. The Tuna Tartare was pretty good (very crisp avocado pieces). I would pass on the Baked Garlic Shrimp. They just weren't very flavorful. The Scallops and Bacon were pretty tasty, if a bit small. French Onion Soup was good. Tried the Escargot (snails in mushroom caps) and it wasn't bad. Was my first time having snails. Probably wouldn't be my go to app, but it was a good way to try snails. The Shrimp Cocktail was nothing to write home about. Says it comes with a 'zesty' sauce but there was nothing zesty about it. Just a standard shrimp cocktail. The one night I actually had a meal I had the Prime Rib, and it was good and juicy. The horseradish they give you with it packs a kick, and they'll warn you ahead of time that it isn't your 'standard' horseradish. If you've never been to a Keg before, be warned that it is a bit on the pricey side. I'd compare it to Ruth's Chris in the states. read more

Visiting Hamilton on a business trip and found this place through yelp. The steaks were delicious! I got the sirloin oscar and it was perfect! It came with shrimps and scallops, and while they were small they were extremely tasty. The side caesar was quite yummy too along with the bread and butter. The only downside would be that the waitress was a little slow and normal it would have been fine, but I was in a slight rush, so it wasn't her fault. The decor and atmosphere of the place was really nice and the food was amazing, I wouldn't have guessed the place to be a chain restaurant. Overall if you don't mind paying roughly $40 a person, this is a great place for steaks! read more

I knew there was a reason why I haven't been to the keg in 12 years....... To begin with, there were no steak knives on the place settings and our menus were wet? I have always been amazed at how popular this "steakhouse" is, and maintains to be? I decided my keg stand-off for 12 years was long enough, and gave it another chance. The Upper James location always must be busy! The parking lot is always full as I usually visit Turtle Jacks beside The Keg. When we arrived, we did have a table right away despite being crazy busy. As I stated earlier, a server or bus person or even hostess probably should of checked our table settings first. Let's get to the nitty gritty.....I ordered the shrimp and scallop appetizer and explained I wanted that served before my salad( the wedge with blue cheese , bacon, tomatoes and a crisp wedge of iceburg lettuce). My boyfriend ordered the Caesar salad. Unfortunately, both were served at basically the same time. Both tasted quite nice, although I did not have much time to enjoy it as my entree arrived moments later. The server noticed this as she was bringing the entrees and asked if I wanted my steak brought back later and re-plated?! I had ordered the "baseball" steak which is such a thick and juicy cut it can only be cooked to medium rare, "re-plating" should never be used as an answer to any customer, let alone a steak!!! Not timing out your customers order makes for an unpleasant dining experience. Also when something is an appetizer, that means exactly that. Not with salad, not with entree. The kitchen manager did come to our table and apologize, offered us dessert coffees and removed the appetizer from the bill. I do agree that this was a great course of action. But.....at this point in the game, the keg should be a fine well oiled machine in its daily operations, and also the wait staff should be held to a certain standard. Overall the baseball steak was cut nicely, seasoned well and cooked to a near perfect medium rare. However, the service and other dishes did not live up to being a true "steakhouse" in my opinion. I doubt I will visit the keg again, I can make better steaks with my friends Cait and Jeff. And the appetizers are served on time. ;) read more
