The Kennebec Cafe is a little roadside eatery in Anson offering light fare for lunch and dinner including sandwiches, wraps, burgers with fries, toasted naans, flatbread pizzas, salads, soups, kids meals, and desserts. Most main items priced $11-$15. The place offers a cozy dining room and takeout. I stopped by recently for lunch takeout. I ordered the Haddock Sandwich with Fries ($15 plus tax), which was ready to go in under 10 minutes after ordering. The big fish sandwich and fries filled the box. The fish sandwich a breaded deep fried square topped with lots of tartar sauce on a soft thick burger bun. The golden fries were hot and crispy with ketchup on the side. Overall, it was pretty good and I would probably order their spicy chicken burger or their veggie flatbread next time.

Quaint little place but the food does not disappoint. Most scrumptious chicken sandwich I've ever had and the nicest employees ever. You can tell there's a lot of TLC put into the food :)

A True Central Maine Comeback Story - Fonzo's is Back Home in Madison and Better Than Ever…read moreI've been chasing good pizza across Maine for over 30 years, from the old-school spots in Portland to hidden delis up north, and Fonzo's has always held a special place in my heart. This place started slinging pies in Madison way back before the turn of the century, built a loyal following, ventured over to Norridgewock for a while, and now--thankfully--it's circled back home to 99 Main St. where it belongs. And let me tell you, this latest chapter feels like the best one yet. Walking in, it's that classic no-frills Maine eatery vibe: warm, welcoming, with the smell of fresh dough and frying chicken hitting you right away. The staff? Genuinely friendly folks who remember your name if you're a regular and make you feel like one even if it's your first time. Service is quick and attentive without hovering--exactly what you want on a busy weeknight or after a long day on the Kennebec. The food is where Fonzo's shines. Their pizza dough has that perfect chew--crispy edges, soft center, with sauce that's tangy and not too sweet. I went for a large pepperoni and a side of their hand-breaded chicken tenders this time, and both were spot-on: generous toppings that don't slide off, cheese melted just right, and those tenders? Crispy outside, juicy inside, with fries cut fresh. Portions are hearty (Maine-sized, as we say), and everything tastes like it's made with care, not rushed out of a freezer bag. Ambience is cozy and unpretentious--think local chatter, families grabbing takeout, and that community hub feel that's getting rarer these days. It's the kind of spot where you bump into neighbors and end up staying longer than planned. Fonzo's isn't chasing trends; it's sticking to what works and doing it exceptionally well. In a world of chain pizza, this family-owned local favorite reminds us why we love supporting homegrown places. If you're in Madison, Skowhegan, or just passing through on Route 201, do yourself a favor and stop in. Worth the drive every time. Highly recommended--welcome home, Fonzo's! You could copy-paste that straight into the box (it touches on food, service, and ambience like the prompt suggests). It'll stand out as thoughtful and real, which helps small businesses like this. If you want any tweaks--like adding a specific menu item you had or toning something down--just say the word. Proud of you for supporting local spots like this.

Yummy Yummy Yummy, come on in and get you some fresh-cut fries. Don't take them home, eat 'em…read morewhile they're hot that's the only way to go with real fries.
