I had taken an 8 week pottery class at another location a decade ago. I got that creative urge to…read moretak another and chose the intermediate class at Common Ground Pottery. Little did I know I was WAY out of practice and not really up to intermediate level. That didn't stop me though. I pushed through the stuggle and came away with 3 respectable pieces. That is due in large part to instructor Colin. I wasn't always able to follow what he was doing but he was patient with me and showed me close up what to do. I still wasn't able to pull the exact shapes I was envisioning in my head but I am happy overall with what I was able to make. I was actually worried about one piece and even went back to the studio to have them toss it. I had gouged the side and patched it back together. I was afraid it would blow apart in the kiln. But I was assured it would be ok. And guess what? It was! Of my three pieces, the large bowl I made as a fruit bowl is my favorite. This is followed by a flower vase. My least favorite, a bottle, is the one I was worried about blowing up. I botched the top a bit but I made the best of it. I hid the top by turning the piece into a table lamp. And now I like it just fine. Some small regrets I have are that I wasn't really able to finish the pieces. I trimmed the vase and the bowl. I wasn't able to trim the bottle since it was made on the last day of the class. I also did not get to glaze these for myself. But Colin took down my glaze choices and that was done for me. And they came out beautiful. The vase and the bottle, similar shapes, were done in a denim blue. The bowl was supposed to be green but came out a little more aqua with some iridescence. Looks nice but not as dark as I was imagining. I don't know that I'm ready to jump back in to pottery again but I do still have some other ideas. I keep thinking I want to try hand building since I've twice done wheel throwing. I'll be sure to keep Common Ground in mind for that and see what they have to offer.

I spoke with Margot, the Director, regarding my son's learning differences and she was very understanding and accommodating. After my son came in for an assessment she recommended two tutors that would work best with my son, Amy and Ms Jessie. My son loved them. But, what impressed me the most was the fact that Margot recommended other tutoring facilities, and specialized learning programs, for my son just in case he needed a more comprehensive learning program. Her gesture made me feel that my son's educational well being meant more to her than just profit for the company. For the 5 weeks that my son attended Tutoring Club, he loved it. In the end though, I did end up enrolling him in a special needs program for kids with learning disabilities. But, if my son ever needs tutoring again, when he's older, I will definitely have him go back to the wonderful staff at Tutoring Club.

Another time I had specifically said that we would be doing reading on single hour days and it was somehow forgotten and they did math instead , which is not why I started tutoring to begin with. It is too soon to tell if there will be an improvement in reading. I do appreciate that everyone is very kind and helpful. It's a mixed bag right now, but I think I would be less critical if it wasn't so expensive. I will definitely update this review once I can assess progress.

Writing Adventures (WA) is my girls favorite place to go to summer camp. In their words "it feels…read morelike home." The talented and creative instructors curate a week of fun around a theme and the kids have a blast and don't even realize they are learning at the same time. Last week was Entrepreneurs Week. Students developed a business plan around something they could make or a service they could provide. They produced marketing materials, put their products together and ended the week selling their products and services during an open Market Place. They had a blast and are now planning how they can learn from this years experience and do it again next year. The instructors are smart, caring and I hear, a whole lot of fun. If they could figure out how to share their teaching style across the school district all our students would be super-engaged! My daughters have been to other camps at WA this summer - Medieval Times and Fairies and Gnomes - and have had amazing experiences. They had been wanting to go back to school but after three fabulous weeks at camp they may not want summer to end if they could keep going to Writing Adventures.

The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about the experience…read more It is mostly a self-guided experience when painting pottery but they do a really good job explaining what you need to do. You have a 2 1/2 hour slot to finish your painting, which usually constitutes about three layers of paint. The tables for painting are a little bit tiny and shaky, and I found the brushes to be a little bit more difficult for detailed work. When you register, you have to pay a studio fee as well as a fee for the pottery that you will be painting. So plan to spend about 50-60 bucks for two people, depending on the size and item you select for pottery. It will take approximately 2 to 2 1/2 weeks to get your pottery back so plan accordingly. I definitely overall enjoyed the experience and would return to this location to paint something else.
