Klipptones killing it at the birthday party!

I had the Klipptones play at a 60th birthday party where I had assembled one of the most diverse group of family, friends, and neighbors of all ages. The group showed up wearing black suits, which gave them a cool, blues brothers sort of look. Every member showed great talent. The lead singer has a beautiful voice with a broad range. The sax player played like he'd been playing for 60 years, yet looked about half that age. The bass and drums kept the beat, and kept it interesting, and the lead guitar showed his chops too. What was incredible was the range of tunes they do. Not "duplicates" of the original bands (if you want that, play the album!) They played covers close to the original, but layered in their own style, making the song work in the set and for the mood of the evening. Which brings me to another talent they showed: playing to a crowd of just under 100 people, ranging in age, politics, health, and everything - how do you keep then engaged and interested, with big sound, but not ear-splitting for the older ones? Well, they did it perfectly!!! I let them choose the songs, playing to their strengths. They changed things up every once in a while to make it interesting and get people onto the dance floor. Even my 89 year old mother got up to dance! From a commercial perspective, they are professional, and while not the least expensive option, WELL-WORTH their price. I checked out more than 50 different bands in the SF Bay Area, viewing their web sites, watching their videos, listening to their tracks. The next closest band was 10x the price! I can't say enough about them. They even had me shed a tear or two with the soul they put into a few of the numbers that had meaning for my wife and I. If you have a gig and want to 5th dimension to make it fun, exciting, and kick-ass - hire these guys! Chris

Super awesome, professional, and versatile musicians! We found The Klipptones, via Gigsalad and had great communication from the start. Josh was clear, responsive, and accommodating. We selected a Jazz Trio version of the group for our Annual Program & Leadership Luncheon. On the day of the event, they set up smoothly and started promptly. We had a few songs selected and expecting only instrumental pieces; we were delighted when Galen Green sang a few songs! Feedback from guests included: the band was just right for the venue, time of day and fit in perfectly. Being our first in-person event since Covid, we appreciated the professionalism and knowing this part of the program was confidently covered. We hope to use them for future events.

Josh and the Klipptones are incredible (An aside, the Klipptones have opened for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - yes, they are that GOOD!). I originally booked him for a new year's eve gig, but then COVID had other plans, so we moved to April. COVID was still an issue, so we finally moved it to end of August (and guests plus band had all been vaccinated at that point) for my wife's 50th birthday celebration. Everyone in the band arrived slightly early, they set up quickly, brought their own equipment, lighting, music stand, etc. And their music. Fantastic. Josh used a list of songs that I gave him as inspiration of what to play that evening - which had a lean toward swing, lindy, and big band era music (my wife and I are big on lindy-hop). But they also switched it up with modern music that had a similar, highly danceable beat - adapting to the mood and vibe of the evening and all our guests. They were flexible and let us make speeches using their mics. Most of all, Josh and vocalist Mayra are incredibly friendly and down to earth. It was great getting to both know them and have them as our band. I am booking them again for our upcoming company holiday party (and keeping my fingers crossed that they are available!). They have music videos on their website so you can check them out yourself. Here's their cover of Dear Future Husband which has a nice swing/lindy beat: https://youtu.be/GOsGzUUGNRQ Or check out their website so you can book them directly: https://klipptones.com/ Highly, highly, highly recommend them! I've included some photos of the Klipptones with my review so you can see how good they look at an event.

These guys are simply Amazing! so honored to have them play at our wedding!

I asked to make their virgin mai tai not so virgin and it was creamy and delicious. For food, I was shocked at how much I enjoyed the brisket. It was paired perfectly with mashed potatoes and green beans that were crispy and great. Music was great as well! I wish it was a little more lively in there, but its Wednesday in a big city, so ill have to come back on a weekend. We were greeted by Nina and she ensured we had an amazing time at Black Cat. Thank you Nina! You really went the extra miles to make sure we had a great time. I am a huge jazz appreciator and have been wanting to comer here since I first moved to the bay area. My only regret is waiting so long to make the time. The music was amazing, a band of young gentlemen who felt very traditional in their music, which I appreciated. It was easy to get swept up in the music and if you closed your eyes you could almost transport back to another era, which I feel is Black Cat's specialty. There are two floors, the street level floor is a bar that is open to the public and to go downstairs you have to purchase your ticket. Well worth it to support the artist and venue but if you just need a quick drink the bar upstairs is also very vintage/luxe feeling and probably better for a conversation. I ordered a Gin martini and made it a "happy meal" for an additional $6 so it came with a nice portion of fries that we split. We enjoyed the French onion dip as well - nice sized portion for splitting for an evening snack. We wet to the later show so didn't need too much. As it was my birthday we ordered a bottle of champagne to split. We did end up finishing the bottle but if not I think we could have arranged to take it home. I will absolutely be back.

I originally reserved tix for 2 to see PHER for $50/person at one of the tables in front of the bar. Options were for 7pm or 9:15pm, we went for 7. Note: There's a 22% service charge, which is separate from the tickets. There's a minimum spend of $20/person on Wed/Thurs/Fri, and $30 on Fri/Sat. Sales tax 8.63% added to all checks. My friend and I were 15 min late to the show (our dinner ran over), so our original table was given to someone else and we got a different seat. Honestly, all seats seem to be fine! The bar seating is great since it's slightly elevated, so you get a great view of the stage and have the bar in front of you. I absolutely loved the vibe of this place. PHER was amazing and I had such a good time. I was surprised at how short the show was, it lasted for about an hour and luckily, we were able to stay for the 9:15 show with no extra charge since there was space. Just note that they may ask you to buy something else on the menu if you decide to stay. The fries were delicious! I was not expecting to like it so much, perfect for 2 and SO CRISPY. Defs will get this again! Overall, I would come back. The price is a lil too much for what it is, also for such a short show, yet I did have great experience! Although every spot is a great view, tables by the front are recommended as servers tend to walk past your view pretty often.

Located on Annie St and just a few steps away from Market St in the SOMA/Financial District of San Francisco, this place has been delivering some amazing tunes and vibes in the current form since 2023. Keep in mind that reservations are required here as seating is limited. However, if you arrive in between 5-7pm, they will accept walk-ins. The business hours usually run from 5pm-12am while staying open until 2am from Wednesday through Saturday. Even though this place has only been around since 2023, there is a ton of deep rich history behind it that goes back nearly a century. The original Dawn Club (with completely different ownership) existed in the same Monadnock Building on Market St in the 1930's and 1940's as it was a popular music venue from the Prohibition-era up until the end of WW2. Considering that everything ceased to operate up until 2023, the current ownership did the unthinkable and recreated everything as if you've taken a step back in time to a bygone era. This takes me to the interior layout of this place. There are no words to describe just how much I appreciate what they've done. The dim-lit lighting paired with the gorgeous bar, art-deco styling, swanky leather seating and beautifully-marbled tables really showcases just how well executed everything is. I'm also a huge fan of jazz music as the entire ambiance and environment is aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. Since we had a 7pm reservation, we were seated towards the front near the stage. Our hostess took our order as I went with a "Mutt's Mix" for myself and a "Grasshopper" for her. As soon as 8pm rolled around, the band "Fog City Swing" arrived on stage. They are a well-known big band ensemble that make several appearances at Dawn Club. The entire vibe and electricity hits perfectly as this is more along the lines of a dark bar that you might experience in New York or Chicago. All in all, "Dawn Club" absolutely exceeded my expectations on all levels. The entire layout, drink selection, and variety of musical guests that play here is definitely up my alley. Therefore, I am giving this place a perfect five-star rating.

If someone doesn't enjoy working with people or providing good customer service, the front desk is probably not the right place for them. Unfortunately, our interaction with her was extremely unpleasant. She ( black womsn wearing scarf and beanie) was rude in her tone, her demeanor, and in the way she communicated not only to me, but also to my elderly aunt. It was honestly disappointing. What made it stand out even more is that we later met another staff member who was passing out buttons for the kids' show. He was warm, welcoming, and excited to talk about membership and ways to support SFJAZZ. That is the kind of experience that makes you proud to support a San Francisco institution. I'm a local and I genuinely want to support organizations like this, but interactions like the one we had at will call make you second-guess whether you want to give your time and money. And if two of us walked away feeling this way, I'm sure we're not the only ones. Again, the performance and the rest of the experience were great this feedback is only about that one staff interaction. I hope management speaks with her, because the front desk sets the tone for the entire visit, and SFJAZZ deserves to be represented with the same warmth and professionalism that the rest of the team showed.
