It is hard to narrow down what I like about this shop. They have amazing selection of yarns , patterns and equipment ( needles markers project totes etc) . The atmosphere is contagiously friendly, open, helpful , unique and just genuinely interesting . The owners Barbara and Denise are knowledgeable and always helpful. It doesn't matter your skill level or the project they are interested in helping it to come out fabulously. I always enjoy going there , and miss it when I can't get there. Called the store today regarding a knitting question... Barbara was pretty rude. She told me that they were having a trunk show today and that she couldn't help me now which I understood... The next question was - was the yarn purchased there... I told her that it was purchased long before her store opened but that I would gladly pay for instructions.... Its sad that the only criteria to shop at her store was for me to purchase yarn there... I also told. her that I would make a yarn purchase but she was not interested... They must be doing so well as not to need a new customer.... So good to be independent and unfriendly..... read more

I fell in love with this shop as soon as I stepped through the door. I made the trip on my lunch break and accidentally walked right into a knitting circle (perhaps it's a Thursday thing?) The environment was so warm and friendly! The lovely saleswoman was very helpful but still gave me space to roam. I probably could have perused for an hour and a half, had I the time. I ended up with the cutest little stitch markers I have ever seen. Hand dyed wool in general is kind of beyond my student budget right now, but I spent a lot of time hovering around the generous sale section and I am CERTAINLY coming back to make more purchases. I notice that they do have a small collection of crochet hooks in addition to the obvious knitting apparel. I have to start by saying that I cannot believe that no one reviewed this place. Nestled among buildings on a side street in Oceanside sits this gem of a yarn store. If you blink you will miss it. I stopped in on a snowy Saturday in search of some Noro that I ran ran out of . I was almost done with a project and didn't want to wait until Monday to go into the city. Now this cute little place didn't have Noro, but they have great camaraderie. Upon entering this place I felt as though I was interrupting a secret club meeting and I mean this in a good way. There were about seven women sitting around the table knitting, chatting and noshing on bagels, pretzels, chips and beverages. I though this was their Saturday afternoon club or something. The owner, a very friendly woman, informed me that this was their "Sit and Knit". You pay thirty (30) dollars a month to come in to knit, converse, eat and receive assistance if needed. Not really into paying for that because I do the knitting groups in Brooklyn. They have a great selection of moderately priced yarn, but no Noro. There is an awesome collection of needles along the wall. I purchased some beautiful size thirteen multi-colored mahogany needles. BEAUTIFUL!!! The store carries a lot of the standards like Cascade and Manos de Paraguay, but they also carry a lot of brands that I am not familiar with. After combing the half-price section I was lucky enough to find nine skeins of some beautiful Manos de Paraguay silk/merino for $7.98 each. JACKPOT!!!! I could see my project as I dug through everything. After I grabbed every skein of this yarn in the store, the "Sit and Knit" crew was on the hunt in search of some of the same. Too late! The Knitting Store also carries an extensive supply of books and patterns. When I was ready to pay the owner asks if I would like for her to wind my yarn for me. If you are a knitter, this place is a MUST MUST MUST! The reason I love this store is because it is so versatile in the services that they offer. 1. They offer a sit and knit club where you can pay 30 a month, and come in to the store whenever you want with the ladies and get assistance with anything you are currently knitting, or even just to drop in and chit chat with happy owners Denise and Barbara. 2. Everyone in the store is always very friendly and welcoming to new comers. 3. I am a beginner. My mom is more experienced and is part of the sit and knit. I am not part of the sit and knit but Denise and Barbara always assist me with anything when I come in, whether it be picking out a new pattern or helping me because I messed up something on my project, or helping me pick out yarn/needles. They also sat me down the very first time and actually TAUGHT ME how to knit. They tell me to come back whenever I need them. Denise and Barbara will really do anything to make a customer happy, even while being inundated with the ladies asking to fix this and that for them all day long. SO like I said, a must go for any knitter, whether you seriously knit or need a refresher or are a beginner: it's for everyone! read more

Worst experience in a knitting store in my life. Treated better in a retail store that sells yarn then a yarn store that well ONLY sells yarn! SAD SAD SAD.... No reviews because the only people who go in here must know the owner or like being treated like crap!!!
