If it weren't for his stream of sexist jokes at the start of our ceremony, he would have been perfect. He really does a great job, aside from that--it was just so bad that I gave 3 stars instead of 5. I got our videos back and it was even worse than I remember. I want to prepare all brides because it's not appropriate to do this. Here is a direct quote from Scott at the very beginning of our ceremony (keep in mind grooms name is also Scott): "I got a little advice. Say 'amen!' if you agree: Happy wife, happy life! Amen?!?...*looking at groom* you're either right, orrrrr you're happy! Scott you may be the head of this household, but she's the next! She can turn that head anyway she wants to, I knew she'd like that one" (I didn't). "I got one more I wanna do: hold out your hands" *has groom put hands on top of my hands* "Enjoy this moment, especially you Scott, because this may be the last time *dramatic pause* Scott has the upper hand! He really let us drive the ceremony in any direction (religious/ non-religious), asking us exactly what we wanted to be said and allowed us to edit his script multiple times. He centered our ceremony around God, just as we asked and prayed over us multiple times during our meeting, which brought us a lot of peace. We also asked if he would be able to write the ceremony in Spanish for a few of our guest, and he did! When our journey began to plan a wedding in 3 months (engaged on 9/3/20 and married on 12/18/20), we never thought we would find an officiant of Scott's caliber! Shame on me for not writing this review a year ago! Scott Payne was our wedding officiant on May 25, 2012. He is such a nice and friendly man. We were looking for someone to do a non-traditional ceremony that fit us, and he was great help in providing ceremony examples to help guide us. He also has a few tricks that help get everyone relaxed and feel like they are part of the ceremony. Be warned...he will keep this a secret, but we trusted him, and were happy with what he interjected into the ceremony. It allowed both of us to relax a little, and have some laughs with everyone there. It was really great. We met with several officiants in trying to pick the right one, and he was the obvious choice! First of all, I had set up with 5 officiants to discuss our wedding and Scott was the first one that we decided to meet with. No offense to the others, but we were glad we met with him first as during it we just looked at each other and said he's the one. I will start by saying that Scott is absolutely amazing! We found Scott online, as we do not live in Texas (which is where we were wed), and chose him based on all of his raving reviews. We are so lucky to have found him! From the beginning Scott was more than willing to Skype with my husband and I, as we didn't have the chance to meet him in person until the day of our wedding since we live in NYC. Even though we never met in person, I felt like I knew Scott because of our constant communication and email exchanges. Scott walked us through everything we needed to know before the wedding and more. He worked with us to custom tailor our vows, which was really important to my husband and I. Scott had great suggestions and templates that we could reference as we crafted the perfect wording. Without ever meeting us in person, he picked up on our personalities quickly, and really helped to make everything perfect and custom to the two of us. On the day of the wedding, Scott met with us separately and gave us the opportunity to rehearse our vows so we wouldn't get caught up on our wording at the altar. I was extremely impressed with all of the small details he rehearsed with us (father hand off, how to hold each others hands during the ring exchange, etc.). The ceremony itself was amazing and everyone was so engaged. There was one point where I got caught up on my wording (due to tears) and Scott helped to get the guests laughing and clapping to help encourage me to collect myself and continue. Scott is truly the best officiant you could ask for in the area. He originally contacted us from a contact at our venue after having problems getting a priest to come out. He offered his help and advise with what he could even though he was not planning on doing our wedding. When we decided against doing a catholic wedding, we knew Scott would be our officiant! He is very responsive, easy to talk to, cares about the couple as individuals, and probably the best perk is that he sends you a very comprehensive packet with everything you can include in a ceremony, different wordings, verses, poems, and suggestions for ceremonies (traditional ones like unity candle, regional ones, and more modern ones like the wine box). You can take total control of the ceremony or let Scott make one up for you from your preferences and what he gathered about you. He also includes helpful hints for marriage licenses and changing your name. The ceremony went off without a hitch and everyone said it was lovely and touching. He decided to take up our offer to stay for the reception, and I'm glad he did, our wedding was outdoors and covered a few different areas and sometimes had problems gathering people or getting their attention and he helped us make announcements and the like (he has a commanding voice so it really helped!) during the reception for toasts, cake cutting, etc. He also, was very sweet and followed up after the wedding, He really goes above and beyond you can't go wrong if you book him! read more

On the wedding day, Scott met with each of us individually to help calm our nerves and make sure we were aware of the little things we should do during the ceremony to make it just a little bit better for us and our guests. Finally, during the procession we ran into a few hiccups, but Scott was right there to help lighten the mood, make everyone laugh, and help us get past the incident!
