Strawberry and Cream Cheese Kolache: The bread was delicious, but a little dry. I enjoyed the sweet and fresh tasting strawberry compote with a sprinkled on sugar. Sausage and Cheese Pig: Great flavor, link style sausage cut into two halves with a slight pepper finish. Taking a bite into this roll, I got meat and cheese with every bite- great balance/ratio. Overall: I liked the quality of the bread, which is key to a good sweet and/or savory kolache. The filling in both kolaches was sufficient and enjoyable. This place is awesome! One of the best kolaches places I've been. The best thing on the menu are the cinnamon rolls but they are usually sold out by 7ish. The pigs in a blanket are so good too as well as the fruit kolaches! Don't expect hot dog sausages they won't be here. Hands down best kolaches I have ever had!! I was lucky enough to arrive as a fresh batch was being brought out. At first glance, I thought the medium brown treats might be a tad over cooked but to my surprise I was soooooo wrong! The tender dough tore apart effortlessly revealing a perfect wedge of polish sausage wrapped in cheese. Sausage and cheese kolache had the perfect ratio of meat to bread. To think it couldn't get any better the fruit tarts take you to another level of satisfaction. The fruit filling is the ideal balance of sweet but not to the point where you can't taste the fruit flavor and then surroun0ded by buttery rich dough that brings it all together. The Kolache Shops is a great find in the city of Clute. They are authentic Czech Kolaches and are homemade every day! I'll admit that I am a fan of the chain kolache stops for there speed and convenience. They seem to be around every corner in any part of Texas, however there is no comparison to the quality and taste of homemade! I am a big fan of the sausage, jalepeno, and cheese kolache. The breading is a family recipe and almost reminds me of a beer bread tast. The sausage used in Kolache Shops kolaches is not a wimpy little hot dog like in some places, but a real Texas sauasage (everythings bigger in Texas right?). For me there is no better kolache. They also have a variety of donuts and fruit filled kolaches. I've been told that the only real kolache is a fruit filled one and the rest are just pigs in a blanket but being relatively new to Texas I try to avoid pastry politics. If you are in the Clute area or visiting the Surfside beach i definitely recommend stopping by for breakfast. Get here early as they sell out fast on weekdays. read more

I warmed them in the microwave they had available and they were edible... but $26 for 5 kolaches, a chocolate milk, a water, and a small coffee was a bit much for what we got. They're okay. I'm currently munching on some of their kolaches as I type this (or rather pigs in a blanket, since as one reviewer pointed out already, apparently anything without fruit isn't technically a kolache). I've had them in the past before, but my last experience months ago was not a good one. Something was weird with the kolache (jalapeno and cheese) and for the only time in my life I actually threw away an unfinished kolache. The bread is interesting, I would prefer it to be a bit softer myself. Sausage taste varies, as does the consistency of the bread. Sometimes it's a little too much jalapeno. I just finished with that and moved on to a fajita kolache. It's very hot, so it's fresh which is good, but it just feels like it is sorely missing something. It's not awful, and I'll definitely finish it, but it's definitely not something memorable. Honestly, Donut Haven has hands down the best kolaches in the area IMO. Never tried their steak fajita kolaches but I will now sometime this week to do a fair comparison, but they do thejalapeno and cheese kolaches just right. The Kolache Shop has more sausage in their kolaches, but I prefer quality over quantity. EDIT: I lied, the fajita kolache took a nose dive, almost, but not quite able to finish it. Hands down the best kolaches I've had. I absolutely love their pigs - with real German sausage wrapped in their delectable bread! My personal favorite would be the Jalapeño sausage and cheese! Also, gotta for for some of those kolaches as well - of course! The cream cheese is my favorite, but the fruit ones are great as well. If I had only one complaint, it would be the coffee. Come on folks - fresh brewed is the ONLY way to go with coffee (but decided no to hold that against them). I've had other kolaches from around TEXAS, many of the places top rated, but these are still my favorite - truly a great find. IN final closing, I must say you have to try the cinnamon roles. Amazing selection of klobasnicky (might as well use the correct term). Also, I've always had an affinity for pigs in a blanket if I am in the mood to pick up breakfast and these are as authentic as I can imagine. Being new to the area, this was a real good find. Can be pricey but quality makes up for it. I've tried the sausage/jalapeno/cheese (good kick of spiciness and overall delicious!), and beef fajita, and my personal favorite boudin in a blanket (the boudin is amazing and has a nice kick as well). After years of trying all of the "best" kolache shops in Texas, I finally made it down to the Kolache Shop in Clute. Shop after shop I found hot dogs wrapped in tons of dough. I now drive more than 40 miles to stock up on these delicious authentic sausage kolaches (they freeze and reheat well). The blueberry and strawberry cream kolaches were overflowing with filling instead of being mostly bread. Hands down the best kolaches I've ever had. Kid approved and well worth the drive. read more

Initially, I noticed the price was a littler higher than other shops. However, after eating one of the kolaches (jalapeno and cheese), I realized I was getting what i paid for and they are well worth the price.
