Some of the best food I've ever had. Can never snap pics because I eat it too quickly. Lunch specials are always to die for. Soups are out of this world. Burgers are the best I've ever had, the sourdough/white buns are heavenly. My entire family loves it here even my very picky father. I come every Friday for the lunch specials, not sure if they change them seasonally/monthly but the hot honey chicken sandwich, chicken pot pie, and chicken poblano soup are just to die for. Onion rings are tasty. Service is always super friendly. Reasonable wait time for food, none to be seated. Love the decor in the place and the outdoor seating! read more

Great service most of the time for dinner unless we get a new waitress which we totally understand! One visit I had chicken soup which was very flavorful and my favorite The Local Signature salad! I thoroughly enjoyed! Another visit I ordered Roasted Balsamic Chicken Breast... I don't know what happened to the chicken but it was extremely thinner the I can recall from another time. I'm really surprised this restaurant is below 4 stars. Our meal was exceptional. I got the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. The green beans were crisp with garlic and butter, a little heavy on the salt. The potatoes were red skins, so way better than russet, creamy and delicious. The chicken fried chicken had a great crispy, flavorful crust. The gravy, while tasty, was a little thin, and I wish the potatoes had a little gravy too. It was nice that the gravy wasn't cooked with bacon fat, as is common. The water tasted like trash, though. My husband and I joked that it must be the sewage run off after they rinse their shrimp. It tasted terrible! I ordered a lemon drop martini instead, which was strong and very lemony. I could have enjoyed a second. Be prepare to order a soft drink or something, even though I prefer water with my dinner. My husband got the chicken fried steak with potatoes and spinach. He loved the spinach, but he thought it had too much butter. Our server was kind and helpful, but she could have been a little more attentive. She asked if we wanted the check halfway through our meal. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean, and the decor seemed a little upscale. The prices were a little high, but the quality of the food is there. This was our first time to this restaurant, but we will definitely be back. There were several other plates on the menu I thought sounded like something I'd want to try. I guess with the few little complaints, I could have given only four stars, but we really enjoyed the meal and restaurant, even with those few issues. read more

This place has so many things to brag about! First of all, during the day time they have a lunch menu with awesome burgers & sandwiches. It's like a deli where you place your order at the register and then get your own drinks. In the evenings for dinner it's a totally different atmosphere. It's a cozy & romantic sit down restaurant with amazing food! Their sautéed chicken with artichoke is mouth watering. It usually comes with garlic spinach but I always substitute with the garlic green beans and they are so delicious. The bar has some wonderful drinks and you'll wanna try them all. A quiet, roomy, breakfast and lunch Cafe by day with dinner and a full bar by night. My, first time, Saturday afternoon visit consisted of lunch, however, according to their menu they serve dinner after 5:00 pm along with a full bar. The breakfast/lunch menu consists of bacon and eggs, burgers, salads, soups and wraps. Since I was in the mood for something light and I love vegetables, I decided to try an eggplant vegetable sandwich called The Great Outdoors with pesto and goat cheese on grilled ciabatta bread which came with an option of a side of potato salad or fruit, I chose the potato salad. The sandwich was very good, as well as the potato salad, and I'm picky when it comes to potato salad. My only complaint was the portion size was so small. It was served in a little plastic cup with the top. This is a great place to visit if you're looking for a light meal. The service was prompt and friendly from the moment I walked in, to order at the cash register, to the moment they delivered my food to the table. If you're ever visiting Lake Jackson Texas "The Local" is a place I would recommend. Oh, and the desserts showcase...OMG!! read more

Absolutely fantastic classic upscale sandwich restaurant. I've eaten here several times and the ham and cheese sandwich is fantastic.

So I found myself looking for a decent meal after yet another day/evening of merchandising work out in Lake Jackson. I stumbled upon this place while browsing the available options and curiosity got the better of me. There was a relatively sparse crowd for a Saturday night, yet I didn't get even get the slightest of weird looks for walking in as a solo diner. Now at this establishment, the pairing of vegetables to the dish is fixed and substitutions aren't allowed. I decided to try the chicken fried steak, which happens to be paired with mashed potatoes and green beans, despite the fact I'm not a huge green beans fan. The chicken fried steak was excellent. The mashed potatoes are superb as well. The green beans are absolutely amazing, perhaps the best to be found in the greater Houston area. Despite the prices running a bit higher than I had originally planned to spend on dinner this trip, I think I have found a new favorite restaurant when I'm in Lake Jackson and I hope to be back soon. read more

Not only was he super friendly and fun to converse with, but he was also extremely knowledgeable about the menu! He recommended the Spinach Artichoke dip to start and it was absolutely phenomenal! This place is pretty good. Atmosphere is very nice, lots of seating. The only complaint I have is the small portion of fries for $2.95. It might have been a handful of fries. The Ultimate Club Sandwich was plenty big though. Probably didn't even need the fries. They have a large menu selection so you'll find something for most anyone in your family or group. This place is too expensive and NOT worth it. At $30 for a steak it should be. The steak lacked flavor and wasn't tenderized enough. Ive had better steak for half the price at Cheddar's. It was also NOT medium rare. I did the cut test in front of the waiter. He said" if it's undone we can put it back on the grill. I said it's the opposite and he just said "ok". Which by the way the waiter was very rude and acted like We are wasting his time. Just because you say "Mam" or "Sir" doesn't make you polite. The potatoes were also under-cooked and hard. My husband ordered the Pork shanks. It was too sweet and very one noted. We told the waiter our concerns he just apologized. They do have a nice patio but the food and service are not. read more

A good atmosphere for a more upscale dinner. My last visit the food took quite awhile to come out. Waitstaff was attentive and friendly. I'm almost positive the chicken dish with the goat cheese has been changed since my previous visit. I would not order that again. Basically tasted like grilled chicken with canned diced tomatoes poured over it. Someone in the party ordered the catfish and really enjoyed that. Love this place but today my local greens to-go salad was not fresh. I threw half away because of rotten lettuce. They usually have great salads but today I wasted my money. Staff should be on the look out for customers walking in with that... first timers "ok what now" look on their faces. It's obvious. Newcomers are going to enter, look for a hostess or a sign that says 'please seat yourself' and stand around looking lost between the door and the console where the sweeteners are and the entrance. You have to be a LOCAL to know that you order at the counter. Yep it's run like a fast food joint at lunch. Ice tea is Phenomenal here! I love it when counter staff enunciates and speak loud enough to be heard over the buzzers going off letting patrons know it's time to grab their food. Soft spoken shy employees aren't the ones you want taking orders generally. Bacon is tough and chewy. If I hated Lettuce I would have been delighted with my BLT. Thank goodness the potato salad is still served in small condiment cups! If the serving portion had been larger I shudder to think how bad the heartburn would have been. Seriously before I even walked out the door of this nicely decorated establishment I could barely contain belches so vile with the taste of potato salad it actually surprised me!!! Gross right? I know!! The Apricot Honey Tea is Splendid!!! One Salad with Chicken Two Iced Teas and a coffee apparently comes to $32.00 and it's the Slowest Fast Food joint I think I've ever been to! The chicken on the salad was flavorful. Take Out lunch, Dinners and now eat in Lunch have me still hopeful. What I've experienced here so far is not dreadful but neither has it been worthy of any sort of glowing reviews save the tea and the decor. read more

The Local is nestled in Lake Jackon's little downtown. To be honest, I think that The Local has one of the best food offerings in Lake Jackson. If you're looking for a quick and healthy lunch, I would recommend it. I usually get the half & half offer for lunch. It usually costs around $9 for me to eat here with this lunch special. Normally, I will choose the soup of the day and a half-sandwich (Chicken Little). The food is very fresh and the quality is great. The amount of food you receive is great if you are trying not to overeat. I've come to The Local for happy hour margaritas before and I've seen the dinner menu. Personally, I'm not a fan of the dinner menu but they definitely have some nice and appealing options. I really enjoyed my frozen margarita even though I'm not a huge fan of tequila. If you're looking for a chill spot for dinner, I would also recommend coming to The Local. On a last note, I really enjoy The Local's Sweeties. They are a pink cookie with light frosting on top. They are so good. I always need to order a sweetie when I grab lunch there. read more

Having grown up in LJ, I can tell you this place is good. Gone are the days of Sandy's Sweets, Applesway and The Uncommon Market. If you grew up in the 80s and 90s, you'll know what I mean. The Local is a great place to hang out, meet friends and grab a bite to eat. Before they made the entire restaurant sit-down / waiter service (in the evening), they used to have one side with tables and the other side an awesome boutique with cute jewelry, stuff for your home, and toiletries. It was my go-to whenever I was in town and needed a little gift. Now both sides are united as one big restaurant. Their food is good and fresh. For lunch, you can get a sandwich or soup, or a combo of both. Other menu offerings include burgers and wraps. They even serve breakfast and have ready-made take-and-heat casseroles and meals. What keeps me coming back time and again is the bakery. They have successfully duplicated the "Sweeties" of Sandy's Sweets fame. They are the same pink-and-white swirled almond flavored glazed cookie we all remember and love. They also do other desserts and sweets, including a pink strawberry cupcake that rivals any shop in Houston. I just had some for my birthday and they were heavenly. I'm glad The Local has stayed in business. I heard that Cafe Annice closed down, which is a shame. At least people still have a nice place to go that isn't a chain, but is truly local. read more

Um without reading the other reviews I gotta assume I wouldn't agree with some of them. Every meal item brought to the table was absolutely delicious and aesthetically pleasing. Even the iced tea and coffee were excellent. Most of our group said a four and a half until desserts. At this point everyone quickly became 5s across the board.
