Had a great first experience years ago with Roy having a MCM tulip floor lamp rewired but my recent experience was awful. The wife of the owner screamed at me on the phone when I raised that there was a new deep scratch on the top of the base of an MCM chrome lamp that I had asked to have rewired after it was returned to me. I called immediately after the lamp arrived. She first claimed that the removal of tape I had put on there had caused the underlying paint to flake off (I had not put any tape on it), then said it must have been my doorman who caused it since I didn't hand off the lamp myself on pick up (I had specifically requested to do the handoff to avoid something like this but wasn't notified when they were arriving and wasn't given a window) and then, while arguing and yelling at me, tried to guilt trip me because her husband was recovering from surgery. Good businesses acknowledge the issue, regardless of how it was caused and then collaborate professionally to come up with a solution. And if there are personal circumstances that can understandably disrupt business operations, don't take on new work. There's no way I would ever use them again. read more

I bought a lamp from Sweden (A company call Royal Design) that was defective and needed the power supply to be converted to US standards. It's definitely not a quick turnaround to get your lamp fixed but they do a good job and, if it happens to break again, they'll come back and fix it. read more

Initially I thought his work might have been a bit overpriced, but when you factor in that he comes to your home and does it while you wait it's actually pretty reasonable. Sad to say the service I received was not what I expected given all the positive reviews. Whilst Roy & his team was super friendly & fast with communication. My vintage lamp has seen better days. Crude adjustments were made without my knowledge & approval to get it working. Plus another lamp is now continually humming due to a huge dimmer being added to its cable. Whilst I am certain Roy is a great guy I'm not happy with the service, there was no discount given even after I raised my complaints. Changes were made on top of the initial job but this is not the kind of service I paid for, corners were cut & my lamps will never be the same. Highly unrecommended read more

I contacted The Lamp Surgeon to come to my apartment to repair or replace the inoperable dimmer on a torchiere that was just too big and heavy for me to walk to a repair shop. I sent him iPhone photos, which helped him obtain the necessary part in advance. Roy arrived earlier than he said (after first calling to confirm that it'd be okay to arrive ahead of schedule). He assessed the lamp quickly, made the necessary repairs accurately, and didn't leave a mess at all! He explained what he'd done (including a few other tweaks to ensure that all would be good), advised me about the best bulbs to use going forward, and reminded me that his work is guaranteed for a year. He charged me the low end of the price range he'd quoted in advance, and accepted my credit card. All in all, it was a flawless experience.
