I bought a sconce from Rejuvenation Hardware for almost $500. A year and a half later it stopped working. I had an electrician look at it. The inside had an LED strip -not an LED bulb. The electrician could not fix it. I called the company, they could not fix it and they knew of no one who could. I brought it to Brooklyn Lamp Repair on 65th St. in Brooklyn, NY. Its a typical Brooklyn shop with items from the 1800's to todays modern lamps. The owner, Eddie was fantastic ! He took my sconce apart, looked it over, and told me to come back in two days. He got rid of the inside LED strip and transformer and rewired it to accept a dimmable LED bulb. Eddie and his wife were friendly, professional and reasonably priced. I came here to get an antique lamp fixed. It was missing a piece to hold the designed medal shade up on the lightbulb and the interior part of the shade had burned off because of the lightbulb. The owner was very nice and worked very hard to fix my antique lamp. He even made an interior shade that is not made out of paper so it wouldn't be hazardous. The craftsman owner of this shop did wonders with an old ceiling fixture I found discarded on the street. The lamp must have been at least 75-80 years old and it was tarnished and cracked. He fixed the cracks, rewired and rehung it for outdoor use, polished the brass, and basically made it look like new - except they don't make light fixtures like this new anymore! You couldn't buy anything close to as gorgeous for the $180 he charged me. Highly recommended. read more

I always prefer to spend my money in mom-n-pop, or family owned businesses and this one is a true gem. I bought a couple lanterns in Morocco that I was assured would be fixed to US standards when they arrived. They weren't. BLR had to deconstruct to take out the old socket an re-solder a new one. The work is seamless and you'd never guess it wasn't originally there. They also sent me home with all the anchor bolts and screws I need to hang it. I happened upon this store, as I was getting gas across the street. I needed a very small crystal for my chandelier. It been purchased while I was in Italy, and I was worried about finding a replacement. They had the part, they even attached it to the crystal that hangs from it with new wire things (I don't know the name of the wire). The crystal piece was under $2. I've never bought a piece before but it seemed like a great deal to me. If you a lamp or chandelier rewired it looks like they do a lot of that. I came across this business when I was looking for a repair shop for a table lamp and the owners were extremely accomodating. Not only was he able to fix my lamp but also offered some change for the parking meter outside while I waited. His wife was a delight to converse with while the job was being done and they were very friendly people (wouldn't even take a tip when I offered). the ABSOLUTE BEST service i have ever received from a lighting repair shop. I had a very hard to fix chandelier (other places told me its either not worth it, too expensive or impossible) "eddie" said he could do it, gave me a quote for under half what anyone else did AND EVEN CLEANED IT FOR FREE before he gave it back to me all within 48 hours. During a recent move, the movers decided to saw one of my floor lamps completely in half (yeah, I don't know either...). I took it to the shop, and within a few days, Eddie rewired it and soldered it back together so skillfully you can't tell any damage had ever been done. Terrible. I had a lamp rewired. Their price seemed high, but I had already come from far away, so I dropped it off. After leaving, I was curious and called another lamp trait place which said they would rewire for $50 (as opposed to $65). Whatever. I pick up the lamp, plug it in (to a socket used by many different appliances), and sparks fly out and start a minor fire. I call. They tell me that they tested it but to bring it back. I make the haul to their place at noon (during their supposed business hours Monday- Friday 11-5). Nobody is here. Nobody is answering the phone. This place should be reported to better business bureau. I'm hoping they will do the right thing and refund me my money. If I were a real stickler, I would dock them for my gas as well. read more

Their prices for vintage/antique chandelier repair are UNBEATABLE. They rewired and restored a chandelier I had in my garage for years, that I really loved and thought needed to be thrown out. When I came back to pick it up, it was as good as new. Not only did he rewire it quickly, I was absolutely shocked by the quality of work put into it. The owner, Eddie, even cleaned it for me. He also had an array of Crystal I could choose from and was able to replace some of those crystals on the chandelier that were missing. I found Lightingforyou by searching online in my area, having had a rather unfortunate and expensive experience with another well-known lamp retail and repair shop in Midwood. As I'm also a member of Angie's List, I noted that this shop was well-accredited there, too. They are conveniently located in the Midwood area of Brooklyn. Eddie, the owner, came over to fix a vintage reproduction parlor lamp chandelier that I have in my dining room area. This beautiful piece belonged to my parents. I inherited this item, among other things, and it's over sixty years old. The wiring had essentially deteriorated, and the lower globe was not lighting at all. Eddie completely dismantled it, and took the framework to his shop. I cleaned the porcelain globes and crystals, and he came by last night and reassembled the entire piece meticulously. The wiring had to be completely replaced, and a newer and smaller bulb socket was also replaced in the lower globe. He even hung the original crystal prisms for me, and told me to come by the shop if I needed more of them (which I might). He works with his wife, Sharon, and crystalwork and design are her specialties. I cannot praise him enough, in terms of his work and general disposition. He is thorough,kind and personable, considerate and a perfectionist regarding his work and your satisfaction as a customer. Oh yes, and the nominal charge for all this was a very reasonable $135.00 - much less expensive than going out and buying a new fixture! The store is open from Monday-Friday (closing early on Friday), and Sundays, from 11:00 am to 6:00pm. Call them first for the exact hours, as he is often out on the job. If you need a repair job well done, or a new chandelier (they sell them in the shop), I would highly recommend them. read more

The owner discovered there was a blow out where the bulb screwed in. He fixed it also. His price was extremely reasonable. The owners were pleasant & it was enjoyable to sit & speak with them. I am an ex-Manhattanite, and so relieved to find this store. This store is manned by Artisans whose beautiful work is something one would find in Bergdorf Goodman's. Each chandelier, is a one if a kind piece of art. This store is restoring a chandelier of mine from the Civil War era, and other Victorian candelabras. Eddie's painstaking welding, working with difficult metals... His expertise in rewiring puts me at ease. The re-crystalling is like watching a painter and sculptor. Sharon's sense, heartfelt instinct, and Artist's eye, not only brings a chandelier to life, but brings out its beauty and individuality, its life. The quality of repair is museum worthy.
