I chose Breezy from the 3 that Yelp offered up based on reading the reviews and the timeliness of John's response. I also appreciate that he gave a (reasonable) estimate based on my initial description of the project. He communicated well, showed up when we agreed, fixed the problem for a final cost very close to the initial estimate. The slight difference was to be expected as there were 4 (or 5?) circuit breakers that had to be replaced. He followed up on some other issues that he and I noticed, with a plumber that he works with, with as good an experience. I cannot recommend John and JEM enough. My partner and I had some serious problems with a ceiling light- we had tried to replace it with a ceiling fan only to find out that our electric is from before 1960s. There were no ground wires and our previous electrician snapped a wire trying to figure out what was going on and then created a quick fix that shorted out when there were power surges across nyc due to a storm. We had no power in our kitchen and a possible fire hazard on our hands. John was quick to respond, assess the damage in the pictures and give us a quote that was an extremely reasonable price! He'd worked with old buildings before so the job took no time at all, plus since we're renters he wrote up an invoice for the work as well as an assessment of future work that the light needs, so that we could charge it to our landlord and he could follow up with the rest of the work. Had a power outage and a bunch of lights and outlet wouldn't come back on after resetting the breaker. Submitted a request and John offered to stop by even near midnight to take a look. He was super friendly and professional. Came here promptly at the time he mentioned. Explaining along the way the issues and possible causes. Unfortunately this wasn't very straight forward due to new and old wiring in my 1920s house. It was definitely a head scratcher but it appears that there's some bad wiring within the walls after quite of bit of troubleshooting. He was able to offer a solution that didn't require having to tear down walls looking for the fault and ran a new circuit. It was done perfectly and he even left extra slack in the wiring in case I ever do another renovation so that the lines don't need to be done again. He cleaned up after himself once done. Overall A+++ service and would definitely recommend. He's got a customer for life. I would surely call him if I ever redo my entire electrical for my house or need electrical service on my other property. You can't go wrong. Good and very fair prices on top of the excellent work!! Over the past year I used Jem Lighting to run a new line to my kitchen, fix a problem with the line to my boiler, install two exterior lights and put up a ceiling fan. Had excellent experience with JEM electrician. Nick had to do some troubleshooting to determine why one kitchen light fixture was not working. I thought it was paddle switch which he replaced but he tracked it down to one faulty wire inside ceiling beneath the fixture. Took him less than a minute to repair. Nick was very nice, professional and definitely efficient. Because I'm a senior citizen, the owner, John, gave me a break on the usual flat fee, something I appreciated. I needed help with removing an old light fixture from a vaulted 13-foot ceiling, and then with installing a new, hanging chandelier in the same place. After asking around without much luck, receiving difficult responses, or what I considered to be outrageous estimates, I connected with Jem Lighting and Led Specialist on Yelp. John was super responsive and accommodating of my work schedule, gave what I considered to be a fair estimate for the job, and had no issue with the higher ceiling. Better still, we were able to schedule his visit for the following afternoon. As our conversation on Yelp suggested would be the case, John and his crew arrived on time, were super nice, professional and experienced. They efficiently and carefully removed the old light, installed the new one, were mindful of the apartment at all times, and helped with installing all of the bulbs once finished. Afterwards, they even asked about a broom and helped sweep up the floor.
