I hired this company to prepare my house for sale, and it turned into a nightmare. They promised a list of services but did less than half of what was agreed. The one thing they focused on -- scraping the driveway -- was communicated as an extra cost, but they never told me how much it would be. I didn't find out until after the fact that it ate up nearly my entire budget. I already had quotes from other companies for a fraction of what they charged. The results were just as bad. I had taken my own before-and-after photos, and they clearly showed benches knocked over, trash left behind, and areas that looked worse than before. The company didn't provide any proof of work themselves -- just told me it was done and expected me to believe it, even though my pictures showed otherwise. My realtor confirmed it didn't look like much had been done. In the end, I had to spend another $3,000 to hire someone else to finish the work they were supposed to do. On top of that, the owner repeatedly called and threatened to put a lien on my property instead of working with me to resolve things fairly. If you're considering this company, beware: they underdelivered, overcharged without being upfront, and left my property in worse shape than before. read more

They did a great job removing a tree for me, but when it came to removing the stump so I could extend my patio the crew did an incomplete job. When I asked the supervisor to have them come back and complete it his communication skills were lacking and somehow he became angry with me. He basically "ghosted" me and I had to find someone else to complete the job. I would highly recommend this company for tree removal but stump removal....no way. read more

This company is a hot mess. I had them build a fairly straightforward deck in my backyard. The quote was reasonable, and Jesse, who did all the work, was great. But their back office is completely disorganized. And their business practices are sketchy at best. They ended up invoicing me 30%+ over the quoted price. I understand that these things are based on time and materials, but at no point in time did they indicate things were taking longer than expected or that it might come in significantly over the quoted price. I feel like they intentionally underbid and then overcharged. They also lost the check that I mailed them, and have been unresponsive to emails for weeks at a time when I attempted to follow up (trying to pay them). My recommendation is to stay away. Not worth the hassle. If you're looking for gardening/landscape work -- RTJ landscaping has been great (transparent and communicative). And if you're looking for a larger project, Finesse Fence did a fantastic job on my fence. read more

They're here twice a month keeping my yard clear and clean. I left a message yesterday canceling our landscape Company service. Basically because if there was service it was abysmal. Huge weeds were left the walkway on the side of the house was overgrown. I had to call John at least 3 times to request the maintenance we discussed. If our job was too small we should have been told.  I also assumed I would have been called to find out the specific issues that caused our cancelation. Crickets! Suggestion. It would be helpful to have your answering service set up for leaving voice mail identify the name of your company. Also, when billing a customer the said customer should be assigned an individual customer number. Also each invoice should be assigned a number. In 2018 we completely rebuilt our home from the ground up. During that process our existing landscape was destroyed. This year Phil and the Landscape company started on a journey to redefine our outdoor space and created a beautiful, modern and highly functional space. The project was extensive: Concrete retaining walls, drainage, paving stone patio, two new decks, walkways, irrigation system and lighting. I originally hired them because of their reviews. After a years service I never knew when they were going to show up...all I knew is we could count on a half-ass job. When I asked them for a quote to redo our back yard their bid was over $8,000 more than the other 4 bids we received. When I consulted with Michelle regarding the backyard and what we should do I was not impressed. With all that said, we cancelled them. So much happier now. read more

We interviewed three major landscape companies for a major project which included a complex cut stone patio with lighting, a water feature and fencing. In addition, we wanted a second larger fence installed. Two the companies would not come to look at the sight until we hired a landscape architect to draw up plans. We contacted Phil Dundas who came out the next day. He looked at sample photos and listened to our ideas. He immediately began to weave our ideas together and offered additional possibilities. We gave him a target budget and in two days we received an estimate in the right range. When the work started, we were so impressed by skill and knowledge of his crews that we added numerous additional projects to the contract. Phil met the original budget but our additions nearly doubled the original target. These additions included extensive pruning, clearing a large area that was over grown, and rock placement. Phil's crews have years of experience, are able to make independent decisions, and offered design modifications which we accepted. The team of Jesus and Jesus handled the pruning, lighting, installation of the water feature and irrigation. Their work was of the highest quality, in particular, the pruning which was a masterpiece of Japanese style. The team of Oti and Junior who built the fences were both craftsmen who focused on detail and used their judgement more than once to improve the fence design. Phil hired two sub-contractors. Miller Concrete to pour the patio pad which had a complex layout and D'Arpino Masonry to install the very heavy cut bluestone tiles. I would not hesitate to call on either for future projects. The crew also made some great recommendations and adjustments so the final product was perfect. They were efficient and cleaned-up the area well. Last year we came home from vacation to find our vineyard devoured by deer because Phil's crew left the gate open. Mid year Phil's guys sprayed weedkiller everywhere (something we had specifically asked he not do from the very beginning), 2 months later his guys sprayed weedkiller again on all our new plantings. This year we decided to pre-empt any nasty surprises by discontinuing our landscape service before we left on vacation. So we came home from vacation to find a Lien notice from Phil before we could pay him. Wow. What a creeper. Take my advice and never do business with Phil Dundas or his The Landscape Company. We have paid on time for four years even after we realized we had only been getting half time service from Phil's crew. He never made up the difference and now he is suing us after he ruined our yard. Unbelievable! Our pool and tiny vineyard have been surrounded by a gated fence since we built it 10 years ago. With great enthusiasm I applaud the work product created by The Landscape Company, thanks to its owner, Phil Dundas, and his competent crew. My Santa Cruz Gardens front yard was transformed from 1,200 square feet of lifeless turf to a spectacular display of drought resistant plants, providing a variety of texture and color and accented with three new trees. The backyard was renovated with drought tolerant red fescue and perimeter plants as well as mulch. The experienced crew pruned existing fruit trees, created a flagstone pathway, restored a cracked sidewalk, installed a drip irrigation system, reinforced a retaining wall, and corrected an eroded sided yard with a French drain and river rock. Phil was very quick to respond and send Mark out to look at my property. Mark was incredibly nice and seemed very knowledgeable. They were able to come out and mow my large property (about an acre) and blow and edge the walkways within a few weeks of my initial contact. However, they still left the grass about 4-6 inches high... The price was steep ($600) so I asked them to please come back and cut it shorter. They did, quickly. The second time I didn't need them to edge or blow and asked them just to mow, not remove any debris. They cut it much shorter, to my liking, but skipped the side yard and still charged me $260. I was considering asking them to help me install some drainage but after they charged me another $250 just to look at my property and give me a quote...I quickly changed my mind about using them for any other projects. I'm sure they do quality work and are all very kind people...I just can't afford to use their services again. read more
