The Landsdowne is a nice local pub with a good amount of outdoor seating. We came here on a sunny Saturday afternoon for a beer and some food. There were a lot of nice options for food but I noticed about half of them were sold out. I decided to order about 3 different starters, but were told those were also sold out... along with all of the other food that was sold out. So, that left me with the cheese board, which wasn't bad, but I would have thought on a Saturday they would have their food in, or at least explained why they had no food. I'm sure I will be back to this place, I just hope they have food next time! read more

I eat here with my sister on a Sunday afternoon before going for nice walk over at Regents Park. The restaurant is upstairs and boosts a fireplace where the food menu is displayed on a blackboard. I ordered the Sunday roast which was huge! The thing I noticed most about this was the incredible flavour of the gravy, kind of rich and strong. My sister choose the pork as she loves pork belly. It came with mash and veg and again was a really generous portion. She loved it. All in all a good lunch with great service and cosy pub environment. We both had a really nice chat over food and an open fireplace, making this a perfect Sunday afternoon. The pub downstairs was very busy so I assume from that, it is a very popular place to hang out on a Sunday. read more

This pub is definitely the posers' pick of Primrose Hill. In fact I frequently conduct a wanker-count from my window. Yesterday it easily exceeded 15 and that was only covering the four tables it has outside. Silly hats and sunglasses inside. And the worst thing is the clientele don't all seem to be in there by accident it's definitely a destination. Friday and Saturday evenings see huge numbers paying over the odds to enjoy the pleasure of sitting on the kerb outside. It's pricey as you'd expect from the location, and after shelling out in excess of £15 for the house wine, I'd expect a nice glass to drink it from. Unfortunately they provide you with those squat little things you'd be more likely drink concentrated urine out of in a Chinese restaurant. Upsetting. That said, I'm quite taken by the unassuming faded faience that presents itself to the street; and the shabby interior populated with big wooden tables and mismatched furniture does give it a relaxed and homely feel. The food is fairly good standard gastro fare with a pizza menu too (£11-£16, beware: the bases are invariably burnt). There's also a proper restaurant upstairs for more formal dining. I do have a certain fondness for this place, but the only time you'd catch me in there would be for a quiet midweek or daytime drink. And certainly not for long enough to have to go to the horrible loo any more than once. read more

I turned up to find the The Ginger Prince sat in this 'reclaimed' backstreet boozer in one of London's smuggest of boroughs, peering over his NHS chic specs at a set of website visuals, firing orders at a junior creative down the phone. To be honest, I almost didn't find him, he fitted in that well. The marketing and media set seamlessly combine with off duty investment bankers and an [insert collective noun] of NY-LON mums, their offspring and small dogs. If there is a derivative formula for a gastropub it's this. Mismatched furniture, taken from old churches - check. Check shirted barstaff more used to talking a wine list than pouring a pint - check. Menu, groaning with terroir, scrawled up on a chalkboard - check. Offal - check So far, so meah.. but The Ginger Prince is a man of taste and refinement who craves authenticity, and he wouldn't drag me here without a bloody good reason (other than his g.f. working round the corner). It wasn't for the beers sadly... a handful of handpumps, Becks Vier and the over-common and over-chemical Staropramen greeted me - handy, as the slightly too cool for school barman failed to do so. Still, the pint was cold, and wet, and after a fraught day, much needed. I manhandled him away from his screen and focussed attention on the menu. Sure it was gastro 101 but it looked good, with some hale and hearty choices. Big stews, roasted fish and a massive pork chop all featured. I started to channel Greg Wallace as I read through the menu. My dining companion went with the rib eye, fresh horseradish and obligatory goose fat thick chips. It wasn't as pink as ordered, but The Ginger Prince pronounced it succulent, satisfactory and well flavoured. I only had eyes for the pork belly... I'd been tempted by a pizza on arrival, but have been to the too excellent Firezza recently. Other than the pizza, it was a fairly simple choice. The hog arrived, served on a bed of frisee, roasted new potatoes, garlic and prunes. A portion to overface a weedy media exec, this was business pig. Solid layers of tasty meat sat staunchly under a crisp crackling, the fat mostly melted in. The frisee, heavily coated with a gutsy mustard dressing, was swiftly scarfed down with the crisp new potatoes, roasted in olive oil, soaking up the remainder of the dressing. Little from the prunes or the garlic - small, sad casualties of the dressing, they weren't needed. It was a rib sticking early evening treat. The right amount of busy (Tuesday night). It would be a great place to sit back with a paper and a pint of bitter after another trip through that menu on a quiet Sunday afternoon. But I reckon that you'll have to fight your way past Hugo, Sophie, Jemima and Tristan to get to the bar first... read more

Really nice White Bait with Spiky Mayo Pizza: Turkish, yes, it's not pizza, but it is something I would order again! Really good! Friendly staff and nice crowd. A good local pub, very decent food, fresh and plenty if draft beers :) I'll be back! read more

The steak is beyond awesome, i went last week. it's better Gaucho grill and other steak specialty restaurants. I would have eaten the bone if i could. Was that good. It's a priciesh steak (£17) but Buy yourself a taste london card (you can get a free month trial normally through time out london's site) so you can get 2 for 1 (hence ££) Yes, it's them most run-down of the trio on Gloucester (Primrose's most gastro-pubbed avenue), but the steak is winning. Would have been 5* but the two ale's were off. read more

We dined upstairs, where the atmosphere is completely different from downstairs. Quiet and refined whereas downstairs is lively pub. Service was great. I was a bit let down by the food given the rave reviews. Mains menu was interesting with guineafowl, oxtail stew, etc. Serving size is well..very generous. I had courgette fritters with lentils and yoghurt - instead of a few fritters it came as a massive pancake covering my plate. A bit soggy to my liking. A bit bland as well, could be better seasoned. Flatbread for starters was delicious and very fresh. My friend had pasta with sausage and greens which was not bad, seabass - again generous. Dessert menu was uninspiring - ice cream with biscuits for £5.50, grapes? read more

this pub is really nice. Good for the occasional celebrity spot and laid back atmosphere. The bar prices are not that bad considering it is in a prime location in Primrose Hill. As there are no kebab shops in Primrose Hill and it had got to 9 on a saturday night and we were all pretty merry decided to order pizzas from the pub. They are really expensive, which I wouldn't mind, it is was worth it. It wasnt, they were burnt. Which at £16 a pop does not sit easy. Pretty nice but have had a better pizza from a kebab shop! Definitely worth a visit though, just stick to drinking. Unless you are really rich. read more

I would never eat here as the prices suggest restaurant, when in fact its a pub, but perhaps it hasn't realised that yet? The proseco is really good and in the summer it's great to be able to spill out onto the street and waste the afternoon drinking with friends. It can get a bit rowdy later on read more

Great neighbourhood pub, with airy space indoors and friendly staff. Love the thin crust pizza. The Turkish flavour is a favourite. Not a pub one would make a special trip to visit but if you're in the area it's one of the best on offer for a casual pint (or two! or three!) with friends. read more

Despite its reputation as a posher-than-thou Primrose HIll pub, The Lansdowne is a lively, solid spot to kick back, day or night. Indeed, it's generally packed (presumably with locals), but there are no theatrics here - no music/theme/pretense to speak of, just a busy meeting place that happens to have better-than-average gastropub fare. I haven't eaten in the dining room upstairs, but I have had food downstairs - taken on a comfy sofa (similar menu but a bit less "fine dining"). A recent Sunday roast was great and their pizza is superb. Service is pretty slow, but I find that to be the case in most packed pubs so it's never bothered me here. read more

The landsdowne. Or, as my daughter refers to it "the pizza pub". That isn't necessarily fair because their other menu is normally excellent (especially their burger) but the pizzas do get a lot of attention by children and adults alike. I really enjoy the landsdowne as with it being a little off the high street it doesn't normally get overrun on nice weather days. They do also have @10 picnic tables outside to enjoy the sun when it does appear. Really engaging and friendly staff with a very interesting wine list. The open floor plan is helpful for families with scooter or buggies-something not to be taken for granted given some of the other local options. read more

I agree in part with Roesemontjd - The Engineer on the same road is a better pub, but the food at The Lansdowne is far superior. So if you are after a Sunday lunch this is the place to head to. My braised venison was superb and incredibly generous in serving size. Of course, I had no troubles finishing it all off anyway. Chocolate cake for dessert was equally good although my friends Bread and Butter Pannettone pudding was even better and I should have ordered that. Maybe it is a bit posy, but it is Primrose Hill so I think you are going to get that a lot. read more

Very very cool pub and atmosphere - the food was good, pizza was tasty with good variety. The only annoying part is that the service is unfriendly and you have to wait in a queue at the bar to order - if that is going to be the case they need more people there to take orders. read more

This is a cool pub just off the main high street of Primrose Hill. High Street isn't really the right term, because this area of London is far too upmarket for that - it's one of the prettiest and most elegant places to be, with lots of amazing restaurants and the beautiful park nearby. Anyway, back to The Landsdowne - it's a cosy place with friendly staff, and they serve great quality food. The pizzas are particularly good and cost from around £8 to £13. There is also an upstairs part to the place, and I think it acts as more of a restaurant, although i haven't explored ityet. read more

My favourite of our local pubs for food and ambience, yes there are a lot of posers but we tend to only go on weekend lunchtimes. Dog friendly. Lots of yummy mummies on the weekends at lunch. Food on the whole is good, although sometimes over-priced, good pizzas. Great staff. read more

Arrived as they started serving food around 5.30 and tried to order (main courses only) as needed to leave by 7 for the theatre. The very nice & well meaning young girl who was trying to take our order couldn't work the system so that took a full 15 minutes. Then she shouldn't work the credit card payment method. Then, to top off a wondrously shambolic performance, the area near where we were sat filled with so much smoke from the open fire that you could hardly breathe. This was largely because the chap putting logs on it ballsed it up to such an extent that all our clothes stank of smoke 2 days later and we had headaches for the same period. If you're going to have a warm, inviting, open fire, learn how to use it without harming your customers health. To top it all, the fish was dry as a bone, overcooked and we didn't get our food for an hour after ordering. A bad joke of a venue which seems to be run by amateurs. Lots of other places to visit nearby that are better and without the side effects. read more

Went here for sunday lunch, We arrive here and from the outside I was convinced it was the wrong place from the outside it looks like a complete dive a pub that has had the same locals for the last 60years and has never quite moved on. But after going inside was pleasantly surprised and the the placed lived up to its reputation of having the trendy primrose hill crowd and was buzzing. We went to the upstairs to have lunch as it was a big group of us. Firstly the cost of the mains were extremely high there was not a a main for less than 11.50 and the roast beef was 16.50 a record price . I ordered a pizza these were in the region of £9.00 , After placing our food order this is where it started to go horribly wrong. The food took more than dishes were cold! Some of those who ordered pizzas were missing some of their toppings and sadly they completely forgot to even put my order through so mine came half and hour later after eventually having to find a waiter to ask what was going on. I made a complaint to the managment who did nothing much and promised me a call the following day ... I still wait. So in a nutshell shocking , if a pub wants to charge restaurant prices for their food (infact alot more than most ) then I expect restaurant service not cold forgotton food and rude waiters in beanies and camo pants. read more
