I visited your bookstore looking for a few specific titles. When I asked for assistance at the front desk, the first question I was asked was, "Are these romance books?" Whether or not that was the intention, it made me feel as though my reading choices were being judged rather than simply helped. I believe every reader should feel welcome asking for any genre without feeling self-conscious. Unfortunately, the interaction left me feeling uncomfortable enough that I don't plan to return. The layout of the bookstore is very unique; I can spend many hours looking around and checking out the variety of books, furniture and decor they have at the store. The Last Bookstore, has a new residency or should I say additional in L.A.'s super cool SFV/818/San Fernando Valley. Bordering the edge of Studio City a beat away from North Hollywood and a street cross away from Toluca Lake, this Lankershim Blvd meets the corner of Landale Street gem is here to stay. Located near the 134, 170 and 101 freeways between Riverside Drive and Moorpark Street, you can find street parking in the area, mostly metered, 2hr limited and/or very few spaces with restrictions. It's way bigger than it looks. Not as massive as it's DTLA - Downtown Los Angeles older sibling location or it's cousin's Lost Books (Montrose, California - above Glendale) and Skull-Face Books & Vinyl (Honolulu, Hawaii), but still surprisingly spacious and wonder like with some nods to it's days as the Designer Views furniture and home goods store. The LB - Studio City definitely has some chic style views #PastmeetsPresent I popped in to explore and left with three new additions to the home library of assorted things. The service was beyond thoughtful, warm and playful. There were a handful of people exploring. I was reading with my eyes, camera phone and absorbing all the magic of this new little giant emporium of knowledge. Their album, music, movie and media collections are stacked with variety. Comics and graphic novels are plentiful. And while the plants, crystals and very cool decor aren't for sale, they're all for this well rounded experience. Love the great employee recommends bookcase shelf, best seller's, local favs and popular reads. You'll discover each room is cooler than the next both literally and physically. I was so happy when I found the coldest room on a very humid and warm summer day. It was fun to discover sections and see how they organized everything. Great horror/suspense thriller and dark fantasy collections including the fatherlode of Stephen King novels. I was on the hunt for a few Anne Rice books I don't have in my collection including some books by Christopher Rice, one of my favorite authors, also her son + one of their two collaboration books from the Ramses the Damned series. I'll definitely be doubling back often. Excited to see what future events they host here, and for more people to discover, enjoy and get lost in the extended universe of TLB. Great deals on used books, typically on display when you first walk up as well as a lot of great sales in the front half of the store. I'd always wanted to check out The Last Bookstore and I happen to be working downtown, decided to walk over there at lunch and it was such a beautiful experience. Sales people are very helpful,so much to see. They had a room to the left that had unique books collectible books, I could've stayed there for a couple hours, but I only had a half an hour. Such a unique bookstore. Drove the extra mile to come here and i made sure to leave with no regrets. I, of course, had to take photos of the bookstore. The layout and organization was really nice. Every section had it's own unique look. My favorite, and i think everyone's as well, is what seems to be a tree-like stand in the middle of the interior section of the bookstore. Once i was done admiring it's beauty, It was time for business. How many books can i justify getting!! I decided that i for sure wanted to get a book from a local author and some cool unique books that were unconventional. They had some books behind glass cases and some others that were mass printed in the 90s and a whole section for California based authors. Perfect. They also had many sections of some of my favorite books, books that are on my TBR and many many many books that were so tempting to get that seemed so good. I ended up getting 4 books for under $100. One of which is a book by a local author, and 3 others that were collectibles of some sort. I am very pleased with my purchase and believe the lovely lady that helped me check out agrees. When i come back to Cali, i will be coming back here for more cool books. read more

Sadly bookstores have consistently dwindled in numbers, so I absolutely love coming across any. Call me old fashioned, but there's no comparison to holding a physical book in your hand over having an electronic copy. I've been growing my book collection over the years and I'm still going strong. With the younger generations getting more illiterate and lazily using AI to write, it's become something of a necessity to save books for prosperity. Whether it's the classics I read growing up or random new books I come across, it's almost a compulsion to grab one when I'm out in the wild. Now that I sound like the utmost snob, let's talk about The Last Bookstore Studio City. The DTLA location has always been a favorite of mine and I love getting lost in all of their selection. They just opened the Studio City location in December 2024 so it's still fairly new, but I never got around to checking it out until now. There's plenty of street parking, but like DTLA you're going to be sidestepping homeless depending on how far you walk. The Studio City location has a more open space than DTLA, but it comes at the cost of having way less of a selection. Some shelves have a handful of books, some don't even having anything at all. Hopefully they step it up with inventory because you can check out everything in less than 20 minutes. I'd gladly trade the space for more actual books, but I honestly don't know a thing about their supply so maybe it is what it is. They also sell records, DVDs, and comic books but they're of varying quantities. Overall I like the idea of The Last Bookstore branching out to the Valley since it saves a trip downtown, but the execution could be better. The selection has to be my biggest gripe, but at the end of the day I still found a good home for some books. I really like their carts by the entrance that display books for a dollar - it's a neat way to get your immediate attention. I've been wanting to come here since they opened and I'm so happy I finally got to take in the awesomeness that is The Last Bookstore. Ben was friendly and helpful and showed us the lay of the land. I found an art book, a play and a tiny mass paperback. The place is huge! They have cozy seating nooks, events and they support local authors. As a local author myself, this pleases me. I love books & bookstores with one of my favorites being The Last Bookstore DTLA. So I am very excited to have another location for me to love: The Last Bookstore Studio City!!! With the same eclectic selection of books in a unique architectural space this new location is just as wonderful as the original. A maze of rooms filled with plants and interesting art pieces surrounded by shelf after shelf of books on every category you can imagine. And just to get you in the meed there are carts of clearance books on the street before you even walk in! The staff is very friendly and just as excited to talk about books as you are :) Help finding what you're looking for... Yep :) Recommendations for specific books on a topic you're interested in... Yep again :) There is so much to look at so be sure to give yourself plenty of time, I think we wondered around for 2 hours and ended up buying 5 books! Parking is available both on the street and in a lot next door so you should be able to find free parking. This is the biggest difference from the DTLA location LOL There are also clean restrooms something I like in a place I'm going to spend a couple of hours in :) read more

I visited this new bookstore on a Saturday morning and It was a great experience!   The interior was simply beautiful. There were several rooms with books and beautiful décor. The décor vibe was mysterious, but inviting. It was fun as it was like an exploration of a book maze. Everything was well put together.   The staff were also nice and weren't intrusive, so I felt comfortable being able to browse around on my own.   I also liked the selection of books and the prices seemed reasonable. I didn't purchase any books on this visit as I had a couple at home that I still needed to get through, but this is a solid option if you're looking for a bookstore to browse through in the Studio City area.   There's also street parking nearby and at the time I went there was ample parking. read more

Great addition to the valley. If you're fond of dtla location this place is single story, and comes with better parking. The vibe is slightly different but just as unique. Great selection of books, dvds, some blu rays and even VHS. Located in an old vehicle service shop. Expect to find the bookstores own quirky decorations throughout. Great deals on books located outside and rest of books reasonably priced. Came specifically for the children's section in search of golden books but instead found Berenstain Bear books and some other nostalgic finds. read more

Finally made it out to this bookstore, it's been on my list since it opened. It's gorgeous inside and there are several nooks and spaces to explore. The decor is beautiful and there are several shelves of books to look through but it was hard to look around because there were SO MANY people inside. I had to squeeze through each aisle and section because it was just that full. In hindsight, I should have come here on a weekday and not during peak hours. It was around 3 in the afternoon on a Saturday and parking was really tough to find. I lucked out and found a spot on the side street but there were several cars circling the area trying to find a spot. The service is great, the staff is super friendly and helpful. Visiting The Last Bookstore was an incredibly UNIQUE experience!! I don't know about you all, but I LOVE bookstores. Especially used bookstores! There's something about a used book that speaks to me. Maybe its the fact that it's been read before and can be freely creased and bent? Don't get me wrong, I love the ease of reading books digitally on my iPad. But the satisfaction of completing a physical book will always beat that. Last week I was in Los Angeles visiting family and was told I needed to visit this place, as it had just opened. This is the second "Last Bookstore," the first being located in Downtown Los Angeles. This "Last Bookstore" is located in North Hollywood off Lankershim and Landale (in-between Riverside and Moorpark). As a heads up it was a little difficult to find via Google Maps. So just be aware that the store is actually on Lankershim, but park on Landale. The first thing I noticed upon entering The Last Bookstore was a plethora of unique sculptures and fascinating interior design! You can tell a lot of 'blood, sweat, and tears' went into this place, and it isn't even fully completed in the back. Overall, whomever decorated this bookstore did an unbelievable job! I'm a huge fan of how creative and picturesque it was inside. There are multiple rooms that house countless books, sculptures, and other pieces of art. Each room has a "theme" and houses specific genres. For example, walking thru the entrance you'll find new releases and autobiographies. The main room houses books related to art and science, with classics sprinkled in. Walk further into the back of the store and you'll find a section for current events and history (both world and American). There's also a room for children's books that is still being worked. The amount of used books at this store is absolutely unbelievable! It is so impressive to think of how much work into this finding all of these. Basically any and every genre of book is covered here. Anything from Hemingway classics to the history of ancient Japan. Science fiction, cooking, astronomy, and much more more. Literally anything and everything! As a 'Type A' person I really appreciate the level of organization and ease in which the books are presented/ displayed as well! The Last Bookstore even has an impressive DVD and VHS collection! For anyone who collects. I was curious as to how The Last Bookstore has SO many books covering countless genres. Apparently the founder(s) scour estate sales, yard sales, and Goodwill? The amount of work and dedication it took to open a place like this is unbelievably impressive! It should be noted that these books do run on the expensive side. Especially for being used. However, due to the ambiance, originality, and sheer effort that went into creating a place like this I can understand the founder(s) wanting to be compensated. And apparently apparently they're planning to host events and concerts when the weather gets better? Moreover, I am very grateful for places like this. We live in a time when way too many people listen to podcasts and far too few read. Thus, if you live in the San Fernando Valley or are down in Los Angeles visiting friends/ family I HIGHLY recommend The Last Bookstore. This EXPERIENCE was unique and different. Like no other bookstore I had ever been in! Anyone who follows my reviews knows I chase experiences these days, and The Last Bookstore delivered, and then some!!! A+++. Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen was delighted to wander the rooms in this art/plants rendition of The Last Bookstore series! A wide selection of new, local, and/or used books and comics. We dove into the shelves, pulled treasures from the depths, and left with pearls of wisdom. Had a lovely time savoring each section. Our only recommendation would be for calming music to be played to enhance the reading; while the music was good, it required attention and the books got jealous. The end. read more

Nowadays I am always happy to heat that a bookstore opens in my area and not closing. I was glad that Last Bookstore opens up a sister store in North Hollywood/Studio City area, near my home. I started frequenting the DTLA from its opening before the Instagram-ing craze or becoming a tourist destination. I also enjoy the Montrose location, calmer and nicely decorated. The new location opened inside Designer View space, they share it and the home decor, furniture helps give the store a cooler look and personality. The space is big, a few rooms, airy with less customers, it makes it for a calmer experience and a nicer browsing atmosphere. I like the music they are playing, great background. Selection is just OK, they are still adding merchandise to shelves. It is very new so they're working on it. I will be back when they will have more inventory. But we still managed to find and purchase a few goodies. Prices are reasonable, some a tad high for a used book, but it's worth checking out. Books are mostly in good condition. Nice customer service, friendly staff. Street parking. I will be back. Glad they are open, I am a bookworm so it's great news to see a local indur small chain expanding! I can't believe we have the last book store in the valley. Although smaller than the one in DTLA but happy to have them so close. It has many of the gems you'd see in the Last Bookstore featuring fun items to sit and read, there are both new and used books for sale, a thrifty $1 used book rack on the sidewalk and the design details that make it more than a bookstore. Overall this is an entertaining experience. The selection of books is well curated and according to the gentleman I spoke to they're bringing in more. The last bookstore has finally come to Studio City! They seem to still be brining in inventory from their main location in DTLA so don't expect it to be fully stocked just yet. From fiction to true crime to acting books, they've got a pretty decent selection. The value of the books are pretty on par to smaller bookstores but the point is to keep the industry alive and to shop small and local. You can tell the staff absolutely love their role and are excited to see you. They were very accommodating at suggestions and are super approachable. If you love to spend time amongst fellow booklovers who enjoy an eclectic space, this has to be a must see! They're still working on the space and are decorating with local pieces. It is a bit on the more expensive side which is OK because I know they invest back into their employees and hold strong company values. There's plenty of street parking around and a little lot next door that you may be able to park at. Vibe is very friendly and welcoming. The Last Bookstore have outdone themselves with their latest location! Went on a gloomy Saturday afternoon and what a treat. First off this place is huge. Bright, airy but also cozy with so many nooks you can settle up in. The architecture is stunning. But you walk from one room to the next thinking "ok, this must be it!" No but wait...there's more. You just walking from doorway through doorway until you've finally come full circle back to the first room. It's a pleasant maze. When we went they were still stocking their shelves but I still walked away with 3 books. Parking was easy and the staff welcoming and helpful. Trust me if you've been to the other 2 locations you'll definitely want to check this one out. read more

Nice layout, good location. Many books and some movies. Divided into four or five different sections of what think was an old car shop. Prices are varied. Some too high some very reasonable. Kid section needed more choices. But I guess its what people sell to them. I could spend hours here looking here looking around, but only had an hour before they closed. Later hours on the weekends would be nice. They have seating areas to look at stuff. Books stacked to the ceiling. Major areas just fill with books i didn't get to check out. I'll give it a four. Denizens of Los Angeles are likely unaware of the multitude of first class bookstores here, which few other cities can rival. Growing up in L.A., I recall Midnight Special, Dutton's, Gene de Chene, among others, all long gone. But since the Barnes & Noble/Borders/early Amazon era, which dealt a crushing blow to bookstores in the '90s, quality new and used bookstores have returned in a major way and of course, The Last Bookstore downtown is one of the best. This new outpost in North Hollywood is similarly massive and attractively decorated. I don't remember there ever being a bookstore in L.A. quite like these two. Though I can dig a dusty bookstore with cats, these are not that at all. Books are in neat orderly categories and very findable, prices are reasonable and you will want to spend some time perusing and relaxing. read more

The weight of the text, the smell of the pages, the endless aisles of tiny time capsules that can take you to any time period, plane rides to any part of the world without trying to find a ride to LAX and entertaining stories to take your mind away from the rat race of life. Books are EVERYTHING! Well, books and cats, but I digress.  Sadly bookstores are becoming an endangered breed but luckily we live in Los Angeles where we have just about everything and anything.  I am excited to reveal that the Valley has a new book store! From the people that brought you the iconic, nationally-praised Last Bookstore in downtown and THEN brought you the Lost Bookstore in Montrose... comes the Last Bookstore, Studio City! Allow me to introduce to you this heaven... The Last Bookstore, Studio City holds real estate near the intersection of Lankershim/Riverside across the street from the Coffee Bean, Dr. Cleaners and near the Arco and McDonalds in what used to be a patio/outdoor décor storefront. I was made aware that there is a free parking lot on the side but I missed this and only noticed the metered street parking so bring quarters if you too are blind like I. My heart was already racing with excitement seeing rolling carts of clearance books on the sidewalk but I almost shouted with glee when I stepped through the entrance: it was absolutely love at first sight! The main lobby/register area is my most favorite bookstore ambiance I have ever seen! Stone flooring, exposed wood trim and bricks and plants (monster, snake plants, ferns) EVERYWHERE! I could just hang out there all day. But alas... there is more! And I truly mean more as The Last Bookstore continues its tradition of a maze of rooms filled with books. It just keeps going! High ceilings with wooden beams, more plants and crystals everywhere! This is the place to be for my fellow Boho Babes! I'm quite certain many of these pieces are left over from the former owner as many are ticketed for sale but it is absolutely stunning! I can't begin to really explain in words how much I adore this place. The Last Bookstore, Studio City is restricted by square footage in terms of book offerings but they are quite stocked (and there are areas with boxes of books that appear to still need shelved) in broad and narrow categories from classic lit to biographies, from Jewish Studies to my beloved English History, children's to cookbooks, art to music theory and any other genre you can think of with new and used books available. Pricing isn't terrible and is in -line with other book stores (books aren't cheap nowadays). I have to also remark on the staff as the front desk girl was super sweet and conversational encouraging me to sign up for the mailing list that will keep in the loop with store events (I did so) and the gentleman who complimented me on my look and said kind words about Valley bookstore competitor, The Iliad. Customer service here is tip-top and A-okay in my book. See what I did there?! My only suggestion to The Last Bookstore, Studio City: get some store cats! I know The Iliad already has that market covered but that would be the icing on the cake! Book lovers needs to run to The Last Bookstore now, as it is FABULOUS! HUGE used and new bookstore priced from $1 and beyond. They even had some records. absolutely beautiful custom made bookshelves in a modern maze layout to get lost in. There were noticeably lots of rocks, crystals, plants, and large bougie antiques on display (for sale. I was looking for small children's' books and that section was small so hoping they will bring in more inventory! I love the DTLA location but I am so excited to discover this location. It has the same magical vibe as downtown though not as big. Walking in I feel transported to another time and place. I could stay here for hours. Even though they are (mostly?) used books I some how found exactly what I was looking for. If you see multiple copies of something check the prices as they are all different based on the condition of the book. This place is special and the guy at the register could not have been nicer. read more

Was so excited to hear that they expended and opened a location here in studio city! The space is massive and you can tell they're still in their somewhat early days settling in, so it's sure to keep slowly growing with every visit. The sunlight beams through the windows and it's full of whimsical plants and decor that has a beautiful zen vibe compared to a more busy/artsy DTLA location. The sections were neatly organized and fun to wrap your way through the store. The staff were very kind and attentive and books were also very reasonably priced! Beautiful store with an enormous selection of books. I've never been to the DTLA location so I went into this location with no expectations. My mom and I came here on a Saturday afternoon and we were in awe of how beautiful the store was. It made the book browsing experience even better than what we were expecting. The space is huge, we were there for over an hour looking through the entire space. The front portion of the store had the new books and recently released titles as well as popular books at the moment. The first part of the back portion had the standard genres. Then there's a third part of the book store that had more historic and vintage books and more niche genres. Finally the last portion had the children books and cookbooks (I think?) There are some seating options scattered around the store. Tons of cute photo ops. Public bathroom available and street parking isn't too bad. No crazy parking signs you have to decode unlike the madness in LA. I can't wait to come back and buy some books !!
