I stopped by here after breakfast on a Sunday. It was not planned but what caught my eye was the entrance that had vines covering the ceiling and walkway. It almost looks like a tree. There is a mix of used books and I ended up accidentally finding a star wars book for my godson. It was only 6 bucks and he loved it. It is so tranquil in here and there have merch in the front by the register. The people who work here are so friendly and willing to help you find various items. read more

Lost Books is a branch of The Last Bookstore. Having visited the DTLA and Studio City locations, I was curious about this Montrose location so I made a little road trip to check it out. There's plenty of street parking and there's a free public parking lot nearby, so no worries on finding a spot. Being a book nerd and an early bird (a double threat!), I showed up right when they opened. Out of the three The Last Bookstore locations, in terms of size I would say Lost Books is about on par with the Studio City branch. Definitely smaller than the original DTLA, but they make the most out of their layout. Lost Books is circularly designed like a spiral with a nice selection of books, vinyl, shirts, etc. If you're in the mood to get some reading done, there are a few reading nooks throughout the store. The book selection is a nice blend of new and old, all fairly priced. I snagged four books and the nice employee even threw in some free flower seeds - that's a first for me, but definitely appreciative since I have a green thumb mother-in-law! Overall I have to say that Lost Books is a nice bookstore. Considering how there's not a whole lot of bookstores anymore, it's always great to find one that offers a welcoming respite from the world. Stepping into this bookstore is like walking into a lush urban jungle. Verden plants spill from every shelf and corner, their vines weaving through an electric collection of bone chilling horror, vintage comics to intricate historical mysteries. At the heart of the store, a see-through mesh aviary houses a colony of small finches who are beeping and fluttering around inside. It is truly a paradise for any book lover. I can't believe that when I lived in Montrose, I've walked by this place so many times and didn't realize what was inside!! Finally visited this place after seeing a few pictures and my daughter offered to take me for a visit. The pictures definitely look better than up close and personal depending where you take the shot. Plenty of books, and I liked how they displayed them. One of my favorite independent bookstores! They have such a large selection of new and recycled reads, vinyls, merchandise, etc. They have multi floors and seating areas. Creative art displays that integrated in their shelving/walkway areas. Upper levels offer small boutiques with art galleries, comic book selections, and other independent finds. A book lovers paradise. I teach little ones and was so happy with the children's book area. Found titles I wouldn't have found elsewhere and I'd much better support a bookstore then online. walked out with a bag full. I appreciate recycled books that have a history of past enjoyment for others. Spent a an hour and could have spent more. Employees are helpful and value is great. I am a sucker for bookstores, new, used, gently used, pre-owned, pre-washed, whatever. This one, I believe, is a sister to the absolutely fabulous and incredible LAST Bookstore in DTLA. This bookstore (no signage out front, it's LOST, get it?) is located along the delightful main drag of Montrose. It's got real birds chirping away in a cage, classic jazz vocalists on the sound system, plants, and a very well curated selection of books. I believe they are all used. I found some real gems here that I have been looking for forever. The store itself is not huge but there are more books here than you may think and the organization of the aisles is funky but not maddeningly so. I spent far more time (and money) here than I thought I would spend. But don't misunderstand: the book prices are not unreasonable. I just purchased a lot of books. They also have vinyl records and CDs, too. Montrose is really far from just about everywhere but this is an excellent bookstore in a very cute town and if you love books, put this delightful store high on your list. read more

We were on vacation found this place on yelp and decided to stop by. It's on a street with a lot of shopping and restaurants. This place is absolutely gorgeous even from the outside pictures don't do it justice. There's books and seating outside. They have a million plants here and they are all real. Extremely amazing how they keep them alive. There's a big fish tank and a giant cage with little birds. I loved how the shelves are located. They turn and swirl so you can see all the books. First time in this outstanding bookstore today. I've been wanting to visit the venue for quite a while. It was worth the wait. In the area with the bestie and we were looking for some wholesome touristy fun so we hit this Montrose Street shopping area. I didn't expect it to have all of the shops and restaurants that it did and for it to be spread out over three blocks. It was great! We walked up and back down and almost missed Lost Books. The signage is small but you cannot miss the arch on the front of building and the plethora of plants placed around the front and the door. When you walk inside there entryway is also arched and covers the entire archway. Signs do say to not touch the plants so keep your hands to yourself. We moved around the curved aisles separately and together and took it all in. Initially I was so transfixed by the design and decor I forgot I was there to look at books and the vinyl. The vinyl section is in the back of the store and they have a lot of options both older music and newer spanning most genres. There was seating near the racks and in a couple of other areas in the back. It was great to be in a bookstore that actually drew us in and created all of these niche moments so people would and could sit and read and relax. We spent about an hour moving around the space enjoying every inch. We both came away with a book or two to add to our collections. My mom and I love this local bookstore. We often go here while doing any business or eating in Montrose. The lovely Welsh woman at the checkout desk was bright and kind. She helped us find what we needed and Mom ended up buying about 8 books. A new addition i loved looking at were the clothes for sale. They had cool graphics on sweatshirts , t shirts and cut off women's t shirts. I took a few photos of my favorites. The ambiance is so calming amd relaxing with plants and winding aisles of hundreds of books. The books are well organized and grouped by subject and so it makes it fun to come back often to see the new ones they've added. There are DVDs and Record Albums and CDs. Many are vintage and for anyone over 50 we love seeing these. In addition, classic paperbacks are wrapped in clear protective plastic so you can see the title and author. We have also donated a few hundred books here ourselves hoping others will enjoy the books we have. This store is connected with its mother store in downtown LA which ensures both stores are constantly bringing new books and refreshing their stock yet always have the classics available. They have books for all ages too. We got a few children's books too and they were clean and in good cIndition. Great place to bring people visiting too!!! Its not expensive so you feel good when you buy your selections. read more

Finally made it in to this absolute gem of a book store, and was so pleasantly surprised! First of all, the entrance is perfect for your Instagram feed with it's pretty green plant background. I was absolutely impressed with the vast selection, and affordable prices of their wide-array of books. But I was also surprised to find they have a vinyl section!! My mom and I wandered in here while we were out lunching in the area, and spent a good hour wandering around, and we both walked out with something. We probably would've stayed longer, but it is warm inside on a hot day, and it was pretty crowded being a weekend. But we will definitely be back, and even have plans to donate some old books, as they said they do accept donations. Please give this spot a visit if you're a book or record buff! We need to preserve more in-person shops like this!! read more

Absolutely stunning bookstore! Even before you walk in, the front is decorated with plants and looks beyond cozy. Then you enter and the entrance is astounding. It's so cute with all the plants decorated. They even have cute lil birds in there (side note: there are two birds in there that were sitting cozily next to each other and were precious hehe) There's different genres of books and there's definitely potential here. But there isn't too much to choose from their selection. You can see there are a decent amount of shelves empty and they can be filled with books!! Imagine if it were filled to the brim.. I know the bookish girls would eat it up, just sayin' lol It was relaxing to walk around and see what they had though. I can't wait to come back here and hopefully there's more books to choose from (I'm a romance reader and it would be great to see newer options available. there's a good amount of the old school Nora Roberts style paperbacks lol) read more

As the name suggests, you indeed can get lost inside as this one story floor filled with a combination of greenery and paper bindings might have made you felt as though you were transported into a story unlike any other! What a cool bookstore! Checked this place out last weekend and what a treat for any book and/or plant lover and I just happened to be both! Lost Books has a great selection of both new releases and used books. I found some books by one or my favorite authors that I didn't even know existed. Of course I scooped those up. The store itself is so esthetically pleasing with all kinds of seating area nooks to chill for a bit. The plants on display are all for sale. I didn't walk out with any but I was definitely tempted. Upon checkout we actually got one of the books for free because the cover was torn off. We didn't even mention it but that's just the amazing customer service Lost Books offers. It's located in Montrose in northeast LA County, this shop is a sister of L.A.'s Last Bookstore. This is a touristy spot known for its forested design and perfect archway and photo spots. Furthermore, they have birds in a huge cage stationed on the left center by the wall. They sell a breadth of books (old-new), comics, and vinyl. You can easily spend hours inside the Lost Books, get lost in tranquility of nature and your wild imagination while you read a book or two or take photos for the gram. I first heard about this place while leafing through a travel magazine during the middle of the pandemic - and little did I know, I'd come across Lost Books through different social media platforms - eventually bookmarking this place on my Yelp app. There's no sign once you enter from the charming 'Main Street' of their historic downtown, but if you venture in through the Instagram-ready tunnel of plants and greenery, you'll emerge into the world of Lost Books. This location in the shopping district on Honolulu Boulevard -- just down the street from Once Upon a Time, another terrific bookstore -- sells books, plants, gifts & knick knacks, as well as a wide variety vinyl records. It was a calm and serene sight when my friend and l visited on a Monday afternoon, just a few individuals walking around & browsing through their store - and pretty much to our surprise, the picture-perfect archway & lush tunnel - we had to ourselves & endure & indulge our selfies & Instagram-worthy snapshots. I love a good bookstore, and this one is full of imagination and charm and design--festooned with plants at the entrance (and a few inside) and designed a bit like an actual maze, with labrynthine paths and curving bookshelves. Largely new books, but some used copies and vintage paperbacks are worked in here and there. I found the design both charming and at times a bit frustrating. Perhaps just a smidge too cute, or too much design over function. Perhaps as a regular spot you start to know your way around the proverbial maze, but at first visit at least it felt a tad disorienting at times and felt like a bit more work than I expected to get to sections i wanted.
