When I walked it I was absolutely assaulted by the incredible smells of various meats/smoked meats. I was welcomed into the store like I had been a customer for a decade. The place is absolutely spotless and in anything dealing with food, that's an absolute necessity. I walked around and picked out some brawts that looked incredible, some sour dough crackers and some beef jerky. This store even has specialty meat and bone treats for your dog. Of course, I feed my dogs better than I feed myself so I had to buy them a few things. I walked it to check it out and walked out with a hundred dollars worth of stuff. This place was amazing and I simply cannot believe I didn't know it was there. It's all of two miles from my front door. I will surely be back as they have all sorts of stuff I want to try.

The prime rib was for my birthday dinner so my husband left his phone number with them. He received a call later that day asking if the prime rib should be fresh or frozen. They wanted to make sure it did not get frozen if it was being used right away. He advised fresh and commented at what good customer service it was to make the distinction. We went together for pick up. The person who helped us when through the entire smoker bundle to show us the contents and then got the rib roast. Everything was well packaged and arranged. Even though it was the Friday before a religious holiday, and many folks were picking things up, it did not take long for us to get our order, pay and be on our way. The meats we have received both on this order and in the past have always been high quality. Edwards is an excellent butcher shop.

That changed the second the bill arrived. Buried into the check was a 7% "kitchen surcharge." In other words, the restaurant decided to pass along kitchen payroll costs directly onto the customer without being upfront about it. If you're not paying close attention, you could easily end up tipping on top of that surcharge as well, essentially paying an extra hidden fee without realizing it. At a restaurant positioning itself as upscale and classy, this came across as incredibly tacky and cheap. Pay your staff properly and price your menu accordingly instead of sneaking surprise fees onto the bill at the very end. That's not hospitality. That's the kind of nickel and diming people expect from budget airlines, not a supposedly high end dining experience. It completely ruined what had otherwise been a nice night. We were seriously considering coming back before this happened. Now we won't return.

So I looked for online butchers based in Denver and found Lombardi Brothers. And low and behold, the prices were the best I saw, and I could pickup and pay in person. I completed my order, and two hours later I got an email to pickup my steaks. Easy peasy. They were already frozen so I popped them in the freeze For the big game, I put the pre thawed steaks on the grill, and they were medium in about 25 min. And they were fantastic... tender, full of flavor, and the marbling made it juicer than other bison cuts. I don't remember having a better steak.

If it wasn't snowing today, we'd go back for a sandwich. Since we weren't immediately hungry, we instead looked over the meat selection and then zeroed in on the deli counter. I purchased just a few sample items. A bagel (they say it's a NY bagel, and it does have the right texture! Just wish they had whole wheat); whitefish salad (better than any others I've encountered in the area); cole slaw (perfectly blended - not too watery, not too dry); and a canoli, which was flaky and sweet. The deli items have an East Coast feel like no other in the area that I've encountered. Better than anything I found in Lakewood, where I lived before. And, since we just got back from a visit to my Dad in Florida, this was a welcome sight! The soup they had as a special, as well as the sandwich special descriptions sounded yummy, so we will go back, maybe this weekend. The meats also look good, so we will likely try some in the weeks to come. Again, I wish they could somehow create a place, even outside, where we could sit to eat. Wheat Ridge Poultry and Meats is your local connection. We visited a few weeks ago and went in separately with our masks. Forgot yours? They offered masks and antibacterial disinfectant right at the door. So thoughtful! The staff were great and super helpful. They offer everything at reasonable prices and had a few things (like jalapeno seasoned bacon, hatch chili bacon and keto bacon, ya'll) that we'll be back for again and again. They offer fresh eggs and source most, if not all of their meats and produce locally. They work with local farmers and ranchers who treat their animals humanely, grow organic produce and don't use antibiotics, hormones and GMOs (check out their website for more details). Ice cream - they're sporting Little Man ice cream flavors and the cheese curds are also local - Cream City Cheese Curds. And.... I can't wait to pick up The Village Pie Maker pies next time we're there. Such a great find! Go.... go now!
