Cowboy ribeye with Creamed Corn
Jamison H.

Great little spot not far off the beaten path. Very cute mountain atmosphere. Rustic and welcoming. The service is great. Started off with these warm biscuits and butter. Ordered the escargot. It was so buttery and mouth watering. I absolutely recommend it. I had the fillet oscar style. It did not disappoint. One of the best steaks I've had in a long time. My father ordered the cowboy ribeye. Delicious and perfectly cooked steaks. For sides I had the baked potato with all the toppings. Also my father had the corn. It's so good. We ended our father daughter dinner with the Huckleberry bread pudding. Amazing! So glad we found this wonderful little steakhouse. Btw our waitress Rachel was so friendly and got everything perfect.

I've heard nothing but great things about this place so when an opportunity arose to take 2 friends out for their birthday dinners, I suggested the Black Hat Cattle restaurant. The atmosphere is comfortable with several dining areas and a lodge style decor. Our party of four decided to order a bottle of Hahn Pinot Noir which we finished quickly so we ordered another. Our server was very friendly and attentive, he knew the birthday celebrators. I was the last to order and still undecided, my friends and the waiter all suggested the aged ribeye. I was reluctant since the market price was $75, however, I ordered it along with the Yukon gold mashed potatoes. I also ordered the French onion soup. Everything was served hot and was delicious. My friends ordered steaks: a New York strip and the ladies each ordered a Filet Mignon. We spent a comfortable two plus hours at our table and never felt rushed. All in all, I can recommend The Black Hat Cattle restaurant!

The Old West found its roots right here! Rodeo and cowboy meet Frontiersman and trapper!! Lots of animal taxidermy line the walls including elk, moose and bison. Saddles and hats are nicely displayed around the rooms along with lots of Western decor and artwork. What an impressive menu!! The focus is on beef, primarily their Cowboy Ribeye (personally my favorite cut of meat) which is dry aged in house and cooked to perfection, but other options like trout, chicken, shrimp are available with a good array of side dishes. We started off with escargot and shrimp cocktail appetizers which were really well done! Most of our orders were the Cowboy or the filet and all were cooked perfectly and seasoned really well. I split a wedge salad with my colleague and it was really wonderful fresh and tasty. The blue cheese was incredible. My steak was beautifully grilled and tender as expected. I was not disappointed. Dessert options were many and we all shared a bite here and there to fully appreciate the fare. Amazing and attentive service by Ken for our party of 8 adults and the owner Dave popped by to say hello in true cowboy fashion; humble and quiet. I'd love to return during the summer as they have outdoor patio. What a gem!

It is a long and winding drive from Denver to Black Hat Cattle. So why put yourself through that? The staff is friendly, the food is good, the stuffed animal heads on the wall and western art are interesting. Feel free to wear your cowboy hat if you have one, as it will be welcomed here. Four of us had the small filet and we all enjoyed it. It is pricey at $45, but I think the cost is somewhat less than the majority of steakhouses in Denver. Wine list is just ok.

Excellent steak house. Steaks are butchered by the owner with very generous portions. Thickest flat iron steak I've ever seen!

The food and service combined with a down home ambiance made this restaurant memorable. I could go on about the steak; try it for yourself.

Ask the Community - Black Hat Cattle

Are the rib eye steaks prime cut? I only see the description as angus beef or wagu beef.

I really can't say. But the rib eye was great. They cut their beef right there and the portion was large. The four of us were all satisfied with our meal and that's unusual for any group. Service is also very good. Attentive but not intrusive - try… Read more

You don't need a reservation, but as the summer months approach and this beautiful town gets busy, I highly recommend you make them. The ambience is relaxed and very chill for this cute Colorado town. The food is very yummy. The menu is well thought out and planned. If you love tres leches dessert, you MUST order this here! It was one of the BEST I've ever had. Come and eat at Willow Creek and enjoy the hospitality and gastronomy this cute restaurant has to offer.

The location is pretty, but the noise level was crazy loud. There was a particularly noisy table with guys shouting and the rest of the restaurant had to yell to be heard. We had to shout our order to the staff just to be heard. The tables are wobbly--noticed several with plastic shims to help balance, and no, they don't take care of it before you sit down. We asked and the guy nearly tipped over our drinks on us. Started with our drinks. Ordered some specialty drinks and they left the Sprite out of what we ordered. They brought a carafe of Sprite and they had run out of syrup so it was club soda. They remade the drinks and all was well. Burrata appetizer was trying too hard. Too much going on with flavors. It was just okay. Lamb ragu was cooked well, but lacked flavor. Mussels, hopefully, won't get me sick. I had a bad batch and one mussel that was so bad that I had to spit it out and it soured my appetite so much so that I didn't order anything as a replacement. Paella special was over cooked. And the pasta primavera tasted like a curry. The best item of the night was the beet salad. When we got our check, it was crazy expensive for four people. $250! And that was with only one alcoholic drink! They also didn't take my mussels off the tab, which we had to point out and they corrected right away. Also didn't help that we could visually see our server complaining to the other servers about us. We were absolutely polite and kind to everyone helping and still left a nice tip because we've both worked in restaurants. It's a pretty location with overpriced food that isn't that tasty and a server who doesn't understand that when things get messed up, it's the restaurants job to remedy it--especially for the price that customers have to pay! Ridiculous.

I was torn between the swedish meatballs and the birria French dip, I got one and my friend got the other. Both were unique in their own way. It was so filing. Plenty of sides. My husband got sausage sandwich, and he said it was flavorful. The salt and vinager chips were different, most of our table did not like them. The waiter was very busy but nice. It took a monent to get our check. I wasn't ever asked if I wanted another beer. I fell like they are more a restaurant than a brewery. They have their core beers, nothing posted about flights or the new rotating beers. Not even a little slip of paper explaining the new beers.

They are consistently great, which is why you'll almost always find the place buzzing with energy. The location is fantastic--it's situated right next to Bear Creek, providing a cool, relaxing atmosphere that really captures the mountain vibe. As for the food, it's excellent across the board. The breakfast scrambles are a highlight, topped with fresh sauces and served with perfectly crispy hash brown medallions. Their smothered burritos are another must-try, loaded with melted cheese and served with fresh sides. Beyond the plate, the staff is always wonderful, making you feel welcome even when they are slammed. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this is a staple for a reason. Rating:

Blackbird is cutesy and inviting with brightly painted exterior (featuring butterflies and sunflowers), cozy and wooded interior, with one hell of a Creekside view. The layout inside is a little awkward - and entrance is right near the kitchen. However, we maneuvered to a table in the corner near the window - with a nice, sunny view and was greeted by a friendly face who gave us a rundown of the specials and allowed us ample time to peruse the menu. We decided to sip on Arnold palmers and split The Rachel - essentially a Turkey Ruben with a side of fries and sweet potato fries - because two types of fries is always the right choice! Within about 10 minutes, our food arrived, which was just what the doctor ordered. Splitting the meal was perfect, as the sandwich was huge. Mom's fries were delicious while my sweet potato fries were a little burnt, but still yummy. Service was friendly, welcoming and accommodating to our lunch date. Pricing is on point and reasonable for a cute mountain town. I'd easily return!
