An amazing Gem of restaurant! We are so thrilled we stumbled upon this amazing establishment. The red pepper and Gouda soup was to die for and the Pastrami Reuben was the best I've ever had (and Reubens are one of my favorite sandwiches).. I loved the art throughout that added the perfect touch of chique in this cozy atmosphere. You can't go wrong by giving it a try. A cozy comfortable place, with a beautiful bar and great food. We sat in one of the booths facing the bar, where you can appreciate the vibes of the place. Very polite staff. That alone would be a good review, but the food is what took it over the top. This was out first visit, but the jambalaya was spicy with flavor, not just heat. Nice portions of sausage and shrimp. The hush puppies were cooked just right, and had enough flavor to stand on their own, but also form enough to scoop out the sauce from the jambalaya. The blackened catfish was also perfectly seasoned. The coleslaw slaw we ordered as a side balanced the spice for the catfish. We will be coming back when we visit Marshall. Ok just moved to Marshall and this one is has the best menu and staff I have to met! Try the fried Catfish or the crime brûlée Love the wings and the bacon wrapped shrimp! Like steak then try the New York Strip! Catfish and the jambalaya are local favorites! The drinks are excellent try the Riley named after their famous staff member! We stumbled on this place when the restaurant we were looking for was out of business. The town square was dark and lightless except this jewel. We came in and it was like we needed to be there. A very busy bar but not loud. We got seated and then received our order (blackened Alfredo with Shrimp, Fish & Chips, and Potato Soup in a bread bowl. Simply amazing. The bread was extremely fresh and not store bought. My Alfredo sauce was very flavorful. Take a break from I-70 and find this inviting eating house and your next prodigious meal. read more

4.5 Stars. Our first time there after a make up girls HS soccer game. The food was very good, and the place looked well taken care of. Our visit was Saturday, mid-aft so the place was not busy at all. I had the Blackened Chicken Alfredo and my wife the Salmon Fruit Salad. Both were very good. If we get back to Marshall, we will go again. 4.5 Stars only because it is our first time, and I feel the need for multi-time visits to warm 5 Stars. While I love the concept of this restaurant and the food is almost always delicious, they have too many misses to qualify for an overall great review. My husband ordered Fish & Chips with water to drink and I ordered a Caesar Salad and their "drink of the month". The fish and chips arrived as one small piece of fish on a bowl full of less than fresh steak fries. My salad was delicious. After I finished my drink I asked for a water, and my husband asked for a refill of his water. We waited 18 minutes before my husbands water was refilled. I never received a water. Given this is a smaller restaurant - and our waiter refilled waters on each side of our table - this is unacceptable. I really hope they pull the service together!! read more

Pretty solid meal overall. The fam and I went here one evening after the local wine walk. Food and service were about average. Appetizers were BBQ wings and spicy fried cauliflower. Both were above average. Enjoyed them. Their bleu cheese dressing was actually great. I enjoyed the black and bleu burger... arugula was a little intense for me personally, but the burger was cooked well. Wife had the blackened catfish which was enjoyed by her and my 6 year old daughter. 6 year old enjoyed it so that should tel you something. Service wasn't bad either. Overall happy experience and it was rather busy too! The initial 2 visits we had to this restaurant were subpar so this was refreshing and we will give them another opportunity in the future! read more

Love this little hip restaurant and bar in the center of Marshall. Each dish is a great rendition of an American favorite, from tender rib eye steaks to Cajun pasta. The service is friendly, attentive, yet don't bug you to death. And the decor! The owner has a great eye for complex and interesting American art. My only hesitation in giving this 5 stars is that it might be harder to get a table next time we are in town! Great job, Leaning Side. read more

We usually meet my in-laws in Marshall to do a kid swap during the summer. We found this place on yelp and loved it! When we arrived a gentleman greeted us. We got there about 5:30 so it was starting to get busy. He threw some tables together and had us seated within a few minutes. Our waitress got our drink order pretty quick. We were waiting on 2 more people for about 10 minutes but didn't seem to be a problem. We order the pretzel sticks with beer cheese sauce. It took a few minutes to get that as normal but the only problem I had the whole time was there was a group of 10-12 behind us. The tables were set up when we got there for them like they had a reservation or may be a "regular" Saturday night thing. They were seated about 10-15 minutes after us. We ordered our appetizer before they arrived. When the appetizer came out, a cook or someone I hadn't seen yet took them to the table behind us. The people there said "I think they ordered some before us." Very polite of them, but the cook or whoever replied "I have more in the kitchen." Well that's cool and all but we were here and ordered first. Jot a huge deal but was kind of a what hell kind of moment. About 4-5 minutes later ours came out via our waitress. The rest of our evening and meal was great. My wife LOVED the Blackened Alfredo and my Commissioner was pretty tasty. We will most likely be back on our next kid swap! read more

The Leaning Side was recommended to us by a friend and will now be on our favorites list. The ambiance reminded me of a quaint New York style restaurant. The music was appropriate and not to loud. Our table of four was near the front window and provided a pleasant view of the town square. The menu was diverse and not too pricey. The service was prompt, but not in your face. The bar was stocked with local brews along with the traditional American favorites. When our meals arrived the burger was hot & the bun was fresh. Surprisingly, the bun was toasted and not burnt. My wife and younger son ordered the chicken Caesar salad, the grilled chicken was hot and the salad was cold. Neither salad was overly done with dressing. I ordered the shrimp spinach salad. Again, the meat was hot and the salad was cold. The salad had layers of red peppers, almond slivers, bacon and was dressed with a vinaigrette. Our dining was an experience and not just a meal. In a small college town, this place is a real find! Highly recommended!! read more

Made another visit tonight (5th time so far.) I had chicken breast and it was okay. Obviously a thin version but nicely charded with a baked potato, butter and sour cream comes in small cups, ask for two. Someone in my party had shrimp pasta dish, nice serving. Another in our group had a baked potato that had a bad spot in it and had to be swapped out. The best part of my meal was the French onion soup. read more

This is a gem of a restaurant in "downtown" Marshall, so drive the extra three miles past Applebee's and spend an extra four bucks to get a great steak in an actual sit down, non fast-food restaurant. Plus you can have an "inside voice" conversation, as music is playing in the background, not blasting out to the parking lot. Both of us had steaks (strip au poivre medium & ribeye medium rare) with side salads (blue cheese & housemade bacon vinaigrette) & bakers. Salads had real bacon chips and vinaigrette was perfect combo of tang & bacon. Bakers were huge with multiple topping options. These steaks were perfectly cooked: no sign of "thermometer sticks", must've done by touch method (don't get grossed out, that's how an actual steak chef checks, by feel/touch). We were there early (had a couple drinks, both nicely concocted) and another two or three booths filled while we were there. Great selection of burgers, sandwiches, apps and non-steak options. Planning on stopping by on our way home Thursday to sample more good eats! read more

The food was good. The kitchen was a little bit slow, but our server was very friendly and attentive. The menu is tilted toward the spicy side, so beware if that's not your thing. I'd like to see some smaller steaks on the menu; the steaks come in either 12- or 14-oz portions, too much for a lot of people. It's good to see a nice place like this in Marshall for a change.
