Now that my kids are older, Terri also offers drop off and pick up from their schools and she and her staff help them with homework as well. Summer time break is always a lot of fun too because she puts a very large amount of effort to come up with fun things to do to keep the kids motivated, learning and having fun. No kid is too much of a challenge for Terri and her staff. My two love being part of the TK family. I would highly recommend Terri's Kids to anyone that wants to give their child a great head start in life/ school. And side note: her back yard is amazing. When we go on vacation she always says how she misses school, her teachers, and friends, and is genuinely excited to go back, which is so reassuring as a parent. We originally chose Grow Smart after touring many places because the facility feels very secure and private. They have an amazing outdoor play area but it's completely private and cannot be seen from the street at all, which I love. All of the teachers and staff have been great and they really go above and beyond with things like their summer program with themed weeks, water days and special guests, a preschool graduation that was better than many kindergarten graduations I've been to, and my daughters favorite, Pizza Fridays! We can't say thank you enough to Grow Smart for their loving care of our daughter for the past 2 years.

I have spoken with the director on multiple occasions about concerns, only to be essentially told, "too bad." Rather than working with families to address issues, concerns seem to be dismissed. While there are some wonderful teachers who truly care about the children, the leadership and direction of the center have left me with little confidence. I told Little Learners about the past problems we had, and that in some ways my kid was working on rebuilding his confidence. After a few weeks there he began to be more like himself, even wore his favorite pink shirt to school! (This was something he'd been bullied for in the past, so this was a big step.) At that moment, I knew he was really starting to feel safe and accepted at LLP. My kiddo is also not one of the kids who sits still very well. He is fidgety and is still learning to be good at circle time. They have been patient with him and have kept me well informed of his progress. They even let me visit the classroom many times to see what they did at circle time, and helped brainstorm ideas on how to get my child to learn to best behave. They have encouraged me and my child, and have been VERY helpful and very good at collaborating with me to think up ways to best help my son overcome challenges, and learn good behavior. They also have been great at being sure to celebrate his successes and his accomplishments, too. They just hosted the preschool graduation and we were thrilled! They had a nice, big ceremony in a nice venue and they put a lot more thought and planning into the event than I ever expected. It's clear that they really care about the children and parents, and work hard to ensure that the families that attend LLP are happy and know they're appreciated. They really know my son, and all of his likes, dislikes, and his charming qualities and what makes him tick. I would absolutely recommend this place to friends and family.

WE LOVED THE LITTLE SCHOOL!!!!…read more If you're looking for a behavior-based pre-school that will help your kids grow into well-balanced, respectful and self-aware little children, then this is without-a-doubt the school for your family! Both of my kids attended The Little School (TLS) from 2011-2016, and I can honestly say (with absolute gratitude and humility) that they are typically the most well-behaved and well-spoken kids in most social settings. During the last five years, our family of four learned a great deal about how to use positive reinforcement and respect when dealing with parent/child intercommunications. The children learned how to communicate using their words (use your words, please), problem solve with their little peers (ask Megan about the buddy-bench), and accept their own responsibilities (who's responsibility is it?). From the start, TLS helped me personally be a better parent. For example, when my first child started to walk and learned how to climb up onto a chair my first reaction was to say, "No standing!". Yet, what I learned was, the best way to handle that situation is to say, "Sit down, please." As parents, my wife and I also learned how to provide better direction to our children; without them losing a sense of control. For example: "Kids, it's shower time. Do you want to walk, or do you want me to carry you?" Either way they're taking a shower. The same option was also used when we started to put them to bed on their own. Brilliant! There are way too many scenarios to list here so I won't even try. Megan and her staff are extremely loving and supportive, and if there's anything you need help with as a parent she can help you with some great suggestions and ideas to help you manage through it. We really consider Megan and her family, and some of the other families we met there, an extension of our own family. In short, for us, The Little School experience was the social foundation and fabric from which our kids' lives are formed from - and for that we will eternally be grateful. As an "older" mom, I never thought I'd need to know about kid's nutrition or potty training! But I learned SO MUCH about parenting from the teachers and staff. With the Positive Discipline approach the terrible twos have not been terrible at all....I'm actually surviving them (only 2-months in). But most importantly, the genuine regard for all the children's unique personalities, talents and quirks really set the Little School apart from others that I entertained. Our daughter attended this center for approximately four months, and during that time the center went through two different directors. While leadership changes can happen at any childcare center, we experienced inconsistent communication and a lack of continuity throughout our time there. From the beginning, we wanted to partner with the daycare to help our daughter succeed. Whenever behavioral concerns were brought to our attention, we worked with her at home and asked staff how we could support them. Unfortunately, despite repeated concerns about her behavior, no one ever scheduled a meeting with us to create a behavior plan, discuss strategies, or ask what techniques were working at home. Instead, it often felt like incidents were documented without a collaborative effort to address the underlying issues. One of our biggest concerns was communication. We specifically requested that staff notify us if our daughter was having a difficult day or refusing to nap. Despite those requests, there were multiple occasions when she was in the office during nap time and we were not notified. On one occasion, my husband went to the daycare and found her in the office with markers in her mouth, which raised concerns for us about supervision. On another occasion, he found her cot placed by itself in a corner of the room, separate from the other children during nap time. We do not know whether this was a one-time occurrence or a regular practice, but seeing her separated from her classmates was upsetting and raised concerns about how she was being managed. Regardless of the reason, we worried that repeatedly separating a young child in this way could leave them feeling excluded rather than supported. As parents, it was difficult to understand why she was repeatedly removed from the classroom or separated during nap time without timely communication or a discussion about what was happening. We also repeatedly requested copies of incident reports involving our daughter but did not receive the documentation we requested. Without those reports, it was difficult to fully understand the incidents and reinforce expectations consistently at home. Another concern was hygiene. Our daughter was potty training, and there were multiple days when she had several accidents. On several occasions, I picked her up still soiled and needing to be changed. We understand accidents happen with toddlers, but we expected that she would be cleaned promptly and cared for appropriately. Communication with our family was inconsistent. Staff would tell us that "it's better when parents are involved," but when I attempted to become more involved, I was told, "We've got it." At the same time, concerns were often shared with me informally at pickup but were not consistently communicated to my husband when he picked her up. We wanted to be active partners in supporting our daughter, but we never felt included in developing a plan to help her succeed. Another thing that stood out to us was the classroom environment. Throughout our daughter's enrollment, we consistently saw artwork from many of the other children displayed in the classroom. We never observed any of our daughter's artwork displayed. While there may be an explanation for this, it added to our concerns about whether she felt fully included in classroom activities. The biggest reason I'm writing this review is because of what happened after we transferred our daughter to another licensed daycare. The difference has been remarkable. She has not been reported for hitting or kicking other children. She plays well with her classmates, comes home clean every day, and her teachers communicate with us in a positive, balanced, and collaborative way. They celebrate her accomplishments while working with us on any concerns, and we've experienced the kind of partnership we were hoping for all along. Every child deserves patience, respect, and a team of adults who work together with parents in their best interest. Unfortunately, that was not our experience at Learning Jungle La Mesa. My hope in sharing our experience is that the center reflects on its communication, collaboration with families, and overall quality of care so that other children and parents have a better experience.

Despite this, the center continued to charge us full tuition even though he was too sick to return the following week. I spoke with Alexa, the center director, and Nichelle Gissle, the executive director, and both of them were extremely dismissive and condescending. There was no empathy, no concern -- just cold responses and a refusal to consider any refund or support. What I expected wasn't just a refund -- I wanted to see that they care about the well-being of the children they are responsible for. Instead, they hid behind policy and showed no accountability. I'm not writing this review to cause problems, but to warn other parents. Please think carefully before enrolling your child here.
