Walked in and the place was pretty crowded. Smells like leather that's for sure. They've got quite a large selection of just about everything including nice soft leather and suede jackets, purses, shoes, hats. Also some crystals and gemstones, costume jewelry. Very tasteful pieces. The staff was very friendly. Prices were very reasonable considering some of the quality of some of the pieces. read more

One of my favorite shops in The Village. While both sides of the shop are nice, I'm a huge fan of the shop on the right side of the upstairs mall. (The shop on the left side features all of the leather items, which are also beautiful, just not what I'm in need of most of the time I go shopping.) The side to the right is filled with beautiful stones, crystals, gems, statues...honestly all kinds of things. Every time I go visit it takes me quite a while to work through the store because there are so many interesting things to look at. I've gotten some crystal jewelry for myself and my daughters (we all love the pieces), as well as other trinkets. Everything is very reasonably priced, and the service is always friendly. The old lady at this store was extremely rude. My 5-year-old son simply wanted to gently touch a stone he liked, and this woman rudely told him not to touch it. This made my son very upset, especially since there were no signs indicating "Do Not Touch," and everyone else was touching the items. When we tried to reason with her, she told us to leave and even locked the door behind us! Such terrible behavior! If you have kids, avoid this place at all costs. They have no compassion or patience. Horrible store! read more

I think the Leather Depot rock shop is amazing! They have many beautiful and delicate items in their store. My son and I happen to be in the store Sunday evening when a couple came in with a small child. The child was unsupervised by the parents and was trying to pick up heavy rocks. One of the cashiers politely ask the child or parents do not touch the heavy rocks. At that point, the child threw a temper tantrum with arms, flailing, and feet kicking., almost kicking over a rock that was right by his foot. The father picked him up and took him outside, which he should do. At that point, we all felt that it was over. There were many people in the store at the time. it wasn't but a few minutes later that the father returned with his son and wanted to know why his son could not touch if other people could touch. They explained that the items were sharp and heavy, and it was not a good idea. I was standing right next to the register with my son Travis and heard it all. The clerks were very kind, but did let him know that the child should not be touching the heavy stones as they could cut him with sharp points or drop them. The father then went back outside with the child and abruptly returned, shaking the child in the clerks face telling her "look what you did to my child"!!! Word for Word as he was shaking his child. Child abuse in my opinion! this was extremely poor and inadequate parenting, and the child is suffering because of it. The clerks were very pleasant and I could tell that they were upset that this had happened. We all applauded when the father finally left and they locked the door on them. Yay to the crew at Leather Depot rock shop! You did a good job don't let people like this hurt your good work. We had a very good time in the store and enjoyed every minute of it. We purchased several items and the clerks were extremely nice. As I was posting this, I happened to see the post about Leather Depot apparently from the parents. Boy, Do they have no shame. This is a very good store with very nice products and very courteous clerks. It's a shame to see people disrespectful to the ones that are kind. read more

We are Big Bear part-timers but had never been in this tore until a few days ago. We had family that wanted to visit some of the places in the Village so we were walking and decided to go into this shop. There is a fairly wide selection of coats, hats, and other items for both men and women. The prices were well below what I was expecting to see in a tourist destination! Just a few days prior, I had looked at a leather jacket at Macys and was surprised at what my 4 year old leather jacket cost now. I was expecting the equivalent item to be even more in Big Bear. Nope, not at all! I do have my eye set to pick up a particular item soon! read more

This is a very impressive, well-inventoried store. The selection of merchandise is far more extensive than the store name suggests. Besides the expected leather goods, there is a fine assortment of handmade items like jewelry, belt buckles, purses and an awesome collection of cowgirl hats, one of which my wife simply had to have, for $20, a fair price. Toward the rear of the store is the winter stuff, jackets, boots, slippers, gloves and everything else wearable. This is a great store, very fair prices, better than I had expected. read more

Well... I have nothing but raves about the staff with The Leather Depot! I purchased a Montana West purse (beautiful!) on May 6, 202. My husband and I were back up this past weekend and I stopped in to ask if they might have repair recommendations? (my purse stitching was starting to detach on the outer pocket). they unfortunately had not immediate recommendation, but did offer up suggestions. They apologized for the issue. I was completely fine with it and continued to shop. One of the ladies (manager?) came up to me and told me to pick out a new purse! She also told me I can keep the original purchased purse, that they would take the write off! Now THAT is customer service! I asked if they were certain and the response was an emphatic "Yes". This place has SO much more than the name would imply. The first time I stopped in this shop I found the coolest belt buckle. This last time we were in I found a cool decorative metal sign that we had to have for Grandma Mary, plus, Dad found a hat and I bought a belt to go with the buckle I bought last time, but they also have jewelry, accessories, outerwear, tons of other cute stuff for gifts and mementos of your trip. read more

I love this store! I'm a local and it's the one store in Big Bear that I always stroll through when I'm in The Village. I've bought several things including jackets, hats, wallets, slippers, etc. Very reasonably priced. They don't carry high-end leather goods but do carry good quality goods at reasonable prices. My only criticism is that the personnel are not highly trained and can do little more than work the cash register. Their knowledge of the inventory is pretty much non-existent so as long as you don't ask any questions, you'll get along fine. read more

Just had the worst experience I've had up here at the rock shop owned by this place. Was searching for a gift for my grandmother, picked up an item that said "tester" on it. When we tested it this older white man pointed at us and said "don't do that." Not a problem when I apologized and put the item down. He then continued to barrage us with the rudest things I've heard at a store. He said " it's like you're all stupid or something" also "it's like you're from another planet" after apologizing. I immediately put my items down and will never recommend this place to anyone up here again. I've been a local for almost 10 years up here and am honestly appalled that someone could be so rude. read more

Great prices and beautiful inventory. However the person behind the counter had awful customer service skills. My wife hands her my credit card. Counter lady ask for ID... I can hear conversation from across store. She runs card by mistake and proceeds to tell my wife she made a mistake and ran the card. But proceeded to tell my wife (3 times) that she has to bring the ID next time. Never even giving my wife a chance to ask me for my ID. The my son went and purchase additional items and softly and kindly suggested she be more friendly. She threw the card and receipt on the counter. Awful!!!! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME!!!!!! Was in Big Bear for the 1st time so I saw the store and went in. Was NEVER greeted or acknowledged in any way until I stood by a glass case and stared at the lady sitting behind the register. Then she said "oh did you want to look at something?" So I bought $90.00 in jewelry and put on the $36.00 earrings drove home to Phoenix and 1 broke taking them off. Hoop earrings and the back clasp pulls right outta the hoop. Have tried to call and get no answer and no mailbox set up to leave a message. Rude service and bad business practices. Take your money elsewhere , wish I had. read more

The vibe is historic and the goods are extensive. Only a small percentage of the stuff is leather, but there are so many wonderful thing to see and try on. I gave this place a 3 for two reasons. First, the name is "Leather Depot" but a lot of items they sell is fake leather. I have seen many shoes and purses that look leather but on closer inspection it's pleather. Second, the people behind the counter do not greet people when they enter the store. Many times I've come in to look around and have stood right at the counter looking at merchandise and no one says hello or asks me if I need any assistance. read more

Went into this shop with a couple of friends to try on some coats. This is something we do every year to take a funny picture in the unique antique mirror. I really liked the coat I tried on so I decided to buy it. While I was buying my coat my friends went and hung up all of the coats they had used and kept browsing the store. Whiling I was checking out at the register a very rude older woman (who I assume is the owner) came around and started scolding us saying that we had left the floors a mess with coats everywhere. There were so many other customers throughout the store that could've been responsible for this but she decided to call out my party of people cause we are young adults. We tried to tell her it wasn't us but she continued to be very rude! I do not recommend this establishment. We were paying customers and were very poorly mistreated. read more

Talk about eclectic. These are the items I purchased from here: Bug trapped in Amber Bracelet Book Safe - as in a hollowed out book that you can use to hide just about anything. Random Magnet about an Alcohol Warning about watching out who you kiss, and a man puckering up with a stinky fish. Miniature Iron Sculpture that resembles a flea in a fishing boat. They do have a lot of gems, geodes, Classic Americana Metal work, and books. One other interesting thing they cell - framed cells from pop culture movies with original mini advertisements as collectibles. I almost bought a Star Wars one..... The woman behind the counter was so helpful, and she also had some great restaurant recommendations. She actually wrote a page on them in the local Big Bear Visitors Guide! read more

This place is ok. Its a great people watching spot. They've got a lot of hats that about a hundred folks have all tried on and yeah they smell like it. The store is full of people trying on the stock, either hats or coats. Looking at themselves in the many mirrors and laughing, or laughing and taking selfies. Just as a life experiment, watch if some randon weird old guy. One with a funny walk carrying a carved cane and wearing an already interesting hat, doesn't walk in and try on the stupid hats. Yup, the ones you were about to try on and take a selfie in. That's right, that smell of the hats if hundreds of weird old guys hobbling in and trying on those stanky weird hats. Very friendly family owned company. I bought this beautiful yellow quartz necklace. I love it. For all the rock, crystal, leather lovers. They definitely had a wide selection to fit everyone's fancy. I can't wait to come back here for another vacation to shop again. I'm sure I missed so beautiful goodies for myself. For now I will enjoy my necklace. I also bought a beautiful anklet for my sister in law and my boyfriend got a dinosaur shaped rock for his sister. Can't wait to give them the pretty goodies we found them. My wife and I were up in Big Bear for a week and of course, besides relaxing and enjoying the quiet, there is always time for a little shopping. Having stopped in The Leather Depot, among other business, I found a canvas bag that would work for carrying around some of my photo equipment. I was going to stop in and pick it up before we left town but unfortunately we ended up leaving two days early and, yes, I forgot to get back and buy the bag. Once home I called the store, described the bag and had them ship it to me. Got it in two days and only cost me about $7 extra dollars for the shipping. Not only are the personnel in the store great when visiting they were very accommodating via a phone call. It would have been easy for them to say they couldn't find the bag because of the extra work involved to package and take it to UPS but they jumped right on it. Next time there we will most definitely go back there and hopefully remember what I want to take home "before" we leave town. read more

Horrible horrible customer service. I have purchased many many things at this store. I went to purchase $40 slippers and they had a stain of pink on them. I asked the cashier if any discount was available because of this stain and she bitched to high hell about what a issue it is to void the sale and ring it again. I tried to mention the stain earlier during the transaction but she was too busy yakking it up with the other worker. She didn't shut up long enough for me to get a word in. Very unprofessional and rude. I will NEVER shop there again. It's a shame because I always find something I love there. I'm a nut about jackets and happened to mention that when the salesclerk had some new stock come in. I'm also a tightwad who buys winter stuff in June, when prices are down. The clerk mentioned she had just received winter stuff and showed me a solid wool jacket with a huge collar to keep the winter wind off my neck. Then, I asked about light weight summer jackeets. (July 4th in Big Bear is always cold.) That also was just the ticket and I bought them both for not very much currency of the realm, under $100 as I recall. Whatever your style in hats, jackets and other cool stuff, you're very likely to find it there. read more
