Big disappointment. In fairness, the food was very good (if a tad overpriced for what you're getting), lots of vegetarian options which is always nice to see. But the service is pretty bloomin' rubbish and really lets this place down. Someone else has pointed it out in their review, but the service is all over the place. Multiple staff serving our table without any communication. Drinks not arriving, small mistakes with our orders - and sure, they were sorted out, but just gives off an "amateur" impression. Our main server didn't know the specials, couldn't describe one of the dishes to me and just wasn't with it. Gordon M pointed that out too and I totally agree - very curt and not really friendly. The Left Bank is obviously a bit more pricey, gastropub style place, and the food is great, but the service isn't what I expected and I don't think I'll be back. I really can't stick restaurants with poor service even if the food is good! read more

Great service and atmosphere, we were seated upper level which felt very cosy but not closed in. Waiting staff were keen to engage and knew the menu well so were able to provide suggestions for different tastes. An eclectic menu on offer with varied dishes to suit different preferences and with four people getting drinks, starters and substantial main courses for under £80 was great value for money. Still really like it here. As most of my reviews currently start, post running I was looking for some grub around Kelvingrove Park. We had done a session near the fountain but were looking for somewhere nearer the Gibson side of the park. This place was perfect for some tired, sweaty runners. We did giggle though when we got put into the back, upstairs! The food choices were great, I had a vast amount to choose from. I was tempted by the superfood salad, or the burger or the chicken zataar but opted for the chilli. I can fully see why it's so so popular! I liked the tortilla chips with it, and the fact that the chilli had pulled pork in it. Personally, could have had more sour cream and red chillis and less cheese but that's just me! Will be back for the cake at some point for sure. read more

As I lived around the corner, I became a bit of a regular at the Left Bank. Good food, good service, good prices and good surroundings. It's no wonder they became the new rivals to Stravaigan across the road. You can tell expense wasn't spared when this place was done up- neat sofas to lounge on by the window, a bar made with frosted glass (I might be making that bit up, but from memory the bar was definitely fancy), and trendy patterned wall-paper all catering to the masses of Wendys that frequent here. You can pop in for lunch (although it's busy at the weekends) but I recommend you make a booking for dinner. The owners of this fine establishment are opening their second restaurant soon on Byres Road. Can't wait. read more

As one of the other reviewers said: this place has it all: good food, good drinks, good service and good atmosphere. The interior design of this place is spectacular - they obviously put a lot of thought into the layout, colour scheme, and design of the bar (in otherwords, it's very fancy). Whether you're in for the mood for a drink or a meal (I'd advise you to reserve a table as it can get veeeery busy), and are about Gibson Street area (or even if you're not), I'd recommend this little place - even if you're just wanting some 'me time'. Having had lunch here in its opening months, and returning for a second meal a year later, I am a fan of the Left Bank. It does not seem to get to busy, and the service is relaxed- sitting upstairs, I had plenty of chance to chat with my companions, and the music was not at all intrusive. The food is well prepared, the coffee sweet and the price is fair. It also balances the chilled atmosphere of a cafe bar against something more business like: a spot to chill and eat. The best thing is the design: it is smart without being self-conscious, and gets away from the beige that seems to dominate the style bars. read more

we came here for a romantic dinner and to escape the september rain and cold. we had shanghai noodle, penne with broccoli and cheese, and the kashmiri chicken. the penne looked simple, but it was tasty and had a lot of flavors. the chicken looked like a work of art; the chicken was done well and was yummy; the sauce consisted of pomegranate and yogurt added an expected twist and gave it a wow. the shanghai noodle was good but nothing special. the decor was modern, stylish, and mellow. our waiter was a young guy who was a pro - attentive, efficient, and cheerful. read more

My partner and i often visit the Left Bank for a superb Sunday breakfast. The eggs benedict is my choice. The hollandaise sauce is just right and not too thick. The atmosphere here is very relaxed and intimate. The decor is stylish but homely. For dinner the mussels are terrific and u can choose from either bread or chips to accompany also if your willing to splash out a little more and get the fillet steak,great with the blue cheese sauce. I really like this place and will most definitely be returning! read more

We spent a week in Glasgow and had traditional Scottish breakfast everyday from different places. Their "Bank's Breakfast" is the best in town! We're from Florida and we don't survive walking out in the cold for too long, and this is a great place to take a break and enjoy a conversation. They also serve good craft beers. read more

I was intrigued by the comment a visitor made, " I would have given Left Bank ten stars if I could", so between that and having Huevos Mexicana on the menu we decided to try it. I had the Lebanese breakfast, my wife the Eggs Mornay with salmon. Both were great. And three days later, we returned for breakfast again but for lunch. read more

Brilliant atmosphere, so classy and lovely waiting staff. The cocktails look incredible and I would definitely come back to sample them, provided I was feeling rich - they're quite pricey. Drinks on the whole are pretty expensive. My friend ordered egg mornay and loved it, but was unimpressed by the lack of butter on the muffin. My 'warm ciabatta with bacon' was highly disappointing - the bread looked and tasted like your average submarine roll, and was not toasted but grilled, leaving it dry and unappetizing. There was no butter on that, either - I think surely for £3.70 they could at least offer you that. The bacon was also grilled, again leaving it rather dry, and was lukewarm rather than sizzling. It was certainly not worth what I paid for it. I'd definitely return for the cocktails and maybe to try the evening menu, but what a disappointing breakfast. read more

Sunday lunch for a visiting fussy eater was looking like a problem when I remembered the Left Bank from a couple of years back. From the minute we sat down and gave the order I felt safe about what was going to be heading our way. Fussy eater ordered the super salad - basically a mix of exotic hedgerow elements while I opted for a burger. Both were great. I'm getting used to burgers served with a 'garnish' of fries but this beast came with a full order and decent salad. Service was great and the no-rush atmosphere made it a very relaxing afternoon. A squad of sleepy 20 and 30 somethings descended on The Left Bank on Saturday for some birthday food and drink, and a thoroughly decent time was had by all. We were many and at differing levels of difficulty, timeousness and general being-with-it-ness, but our position in the secret under-mezzanine (is that what you could call it?) and the very friendly staff ensured a very pleasant evening. Although one of our table was gently chided by the barman for not wanting cucumber in his Hendricks (though I suspect some Yelpers would side with the barman, here). For dinner I opted for pork, as I'm trying to expand my horizons, and found it succulent and tender. The batatas harras (sauteed potatoes) were lovely - I was tempted to sneak into the kitchen and steal a bowl to take home. And oh! I just remembered the cheesecake. The peanut butter and raspberry jam cheesecake. Yeah. It tasted exactly as awesome as it sounds. I tend to reserve my fives for establishments that make me weep with joy, and normally this would be a good solid four (which is still very, very good in my personal ranking). But I've just remembered that despite one of our party arriving late and ordering 20 minutes after the rest of us, the staff managed to present his meal as we were barely 1/4 of the way through ours (bearing in mind we were a table of nine in a jammed restaurant). So that gets five stars for this occasion. read more

When I am working in Glasgow I love to visit the Left Bank with friends... most of the time for a 'morning after' hangover breakfast with substance! And they offer great breakfasts! This place prides itself on using as much local produce as possible so big thumbs up. It has a lovely, chilled out ambience and the staff are a delight. If you visit in the evening and are a fan of fish please make sure you try the Goan Fish Curry - such a food orgasm. read more

My parents came through for lunch and this restaurant was one of the long list of recommendations that I'd received. I needed somewhere that offered at least 1 vegan meal, had traditional meals that would be filling enough for a farmer after a morning of work, somewhere that wasn't too fancy or noisy and not too expensive. So well done on meeting the necessary criteria! When we arrived, it seemed as though we were crashing a private function. We weren't. There was a chilli tasting event on but there were no signs or notices stating this. We stood around for a good few minutes before finding a member of staff who told us they were still open to the public. The menus smelled. This seems weird, I know. But they smelled really, really bad. I think they were leather bound or something but I've never smelled a menu so bad, it was quite nauseating. I ordered the vegan breakfast-veggie haggis sausages, homemade chilli baked beans, mushrooms, potato scone, tomatoes and toast. In order to veganise the breakfast, they removed the eggs from the veggie version and gave them to my step dad who had ordered the meaty full breakfast and was super happy to have 4 eggs with his meal. My mum ordered a lebanese platter which included sweet potato, haloumi and a baked egg. Although she was convinced that the baked egg was cheese. I don't know what that says about baked eggs...or cheese. Either way, the parents thoroughly enjoyed their main meals. Mine was ok, The veggie haggis was quite flavourless and I wished I had more mushrooms. The desert menu went down very well! My step dad got sticky toffee pudding and loved it. My mum got the brownie, the icecream sealed that deal. And I got Swedish Glace with apple and blackberry compote, it was beautiful! Really tasty and made up for a lacklustre main course. This wouldn't be on my list of places to visit again myself or with friends but it was a good place to bring my parents and they enjoyed it. read more

A trendy gastropub, with original dishes, both Scottish and international, including a tapas menu. It's also a good place for brunch, with Eggs Mornay being my favourite here, from 10-5 all weekend. Beer on tap includes an ale (why McEwan's 70 when they can stock 80?), and a wheat beer, WEST Hefeweizen, otherwise you're stuck with Guinness and lagers. Better value food than Stravaign across the road, and they make what is perhaps my favourite burger in Glasgow. I also enjoy their fish 'n' chips as well as their mussels dish for some quality local seafood. However, despite this place being my local I've started coming here less and less, because it's so often too busy, and on at least three separate occasions (even when they were not busy) they managed to forget my order leaving me hungry for an hour. read more

When I am in Glasgow I like to visit the left bank for a nice meal. For me it is idea for breakfast although I know they are open all day so you can go there for lunch or an evening meal also. They pride themselves on using as much local produce as possible. They mainly sell traditional home cooked meals that you would expect from a country pub. On mornings they offer great breakfasts, idea if you have been out the night before and need some substance lol. The restaurant itself is small and can easily be over looked if you are not keeping your eyes open, it is a very modest restaurant but the food is very nice. I think it might be family owned because the staffs are very happy to talk to you. read more

Here is the thing, if this was the Chip, or another place that charged an obscene amount of money for a 3 course meal, you would be amazed at the great food. However, this place is a great restaurant with a large food selection that never disappoints and isn't a whole paycheck. I can highly recommend the fish and chips, which may be the best I've had in Glasgow. The fish is in a light and crispy batter with great chips, which are browner and crispier than cross the street Stravaigan (however, the latter's beef patty is smokier and very delish). The peas are fresh (or frozen) pureed with mint and while could be improved are still very good. Then there is the burger which is full of flavor (pickled beets and chipotle mayo!) and the Goan fish curry (yum!) which I can also recommended. I've been meaning to have breakfast here and though I haven't, I can honestly say the menu looks fantastic and I would trust it to be good. Go eat at The Left Bank, and enjoy. read more

My night at the Left Bank was just short of a disaster! My boyfriend booked a three course meal with jazz music for us during the West End Festival! We were seated straight away and ordered drinks. The staff had forgotten about our drinks and we had to ask if they were on their way when our starters were on the table. We choose our options from the Southern themed menu. I went for chicken and my boyfriend choose steak for main. I can't fault the food at all. The portions were extremely generous and the dishes were so flavoursome! My favourite was the bread pudding for dessert but the chowder starter was amazing too! However, my boyfriend asked for his steak well done and it came medium-rare which was disappointing! In terms of service, the waitresses seemed nervous and clumsy. One waitress spilled a bowl of sauce on our table when bringing mains and, not long after, another dropped a huge tray of glasses. We had to laugh and the waitresses were apolegetic but it was a little bit disappointing! We were told the music would start at 8.45 but it was closer to 9.30 meaning we only heard a snippet since we had a train to catch! From what we heard it sounded good but there was quite a bit of feedback from the sound system! The interior is beautiful, I'm sure it would be a lovely place to have a drink with friends! And my choices from the menu were delicious! The service was just disappointing! Sorry, Left Bank! Judging from the other reviews, I think this was an off night! read more

The Left Bank is a favorite of mine. When I am in Glasgow I try to make it in. I recently had my rehearsal dinner there. It went well, we ate well, we drank well and we laughed all night. Beautiful decor from Timourous Beastie as well. read more

Excellent and very interesting food from around the globe feature in this funky restaurant. Good value for money and a great tapas section, perfect for sharing. The one drawback about Left Bank is that the tables are really close to each other - something Londoners have become more accustomed to than we Glaswegians. read more
