For families searching for an assisted living facility in Richmond, I highly recommend Arbor Trace. My story began when my sister and I were looking for a place for our parents--one that would allow some independence while also permitting them to bring their beloved cat. After visiting several locations, we chose Arbor Trace. Our father had been on the rehab side a few years prior, and we remembered his positive experience. Fast forward to a time when my father needed to be moved to the rehab side due to a medical issue. This allowed my mother to easily walk over and visit him without leaving the building. More recently, when my mother collapsed and we made the decision to place her on hospice care, the incredible nursing and support staff at Arbor Trace agreed to let her return to her "home" in assisted living for her final weeks. This allowed my father to stay by her side, and it gave me the privilege of spending those precious days with her in her apartment. The care from the nurses, nursing assistants, dietary staff, housekeeping--truly everyone--was exemplary. While staffing shortages are a challenge across all healthcare settings, I wish I could wave a magic wand to ensure that every staff member is paid well and given the support they need to provide the best possible care. Despite these challenges, the staff at Arbor Trace in Richmond provided extraordinary compassion and professionalism during a difficult time for our family. Thank you for everything. He told us that if he ever needed to be somewhere if he was unable to care for himself, it would be at Arbor Trace. Fortunately, there was a temporary respite room open. The entire staff at Arbor Trace treated our father as if he was their own father. He was able to receive the right therapy's so he could relearn how to communicate with us and how to care for himself. Excellent rehab staff. Putting a loved family member into Assisted Living is not easy for anyone to do. The staff worked as a team with all of us. We cannot thank the Arbor Trace staff enough for the care and respect they showed our father and our family during this difficult time of transition.

My family is working hard to relocate our son/brother/father/uncle from the facility. My uncle who has suffered two strokes this year with little ability to speak and care for himself was allowed to move into an independent living facility without consulting with or notifying his niece who is his Power of Attorney. Not even 48 hours post relocation he was rushed to the hospital after being found passed out in his room from high sugar levels. The same reason he was put in the nursing home and result of his strokes. Due to the nursing homes negligence and lack of communication, he could've very well passed away as my family never agreed nor believed he was capable of living alone. I would not recommend anyone to trust this center with caring for and protecting their family members.

But the communication was horrific regarding the administration especially the social worker, some other departments and even the president. I was POA and so many times phone call messages were never returned as well as email requests. She lived there two years before she passed away 2 months ago. They immediately took care of that, and after that, no more problems. I was told she could stay there (not true!), but she didn't want to, so I brought her home. No one wants to stay in a nursing center with a roommate they don't know, so I don't blame her. She got her own room at my house and is SO happy.
