I have been to dress warehouses which get overwhelming. This is a smaller boutique with dresses arranged by size then by color. The staff greets you and gets an idea of what you are shopping for. When it's time for a fitting room they take your dresses and set them inside the curtain for you. They kindly offer to help zip you up and are very respectful, never did I feel uncomfortable. Outside of the fitting room is a catwalk with a big mirror. They have an alterations person if you need one but be mindful that prom season gets very busy. The sales are final but if the dress is right then you know that won't be a problem. People told me I looked like a princess in the dresses I got from here and they made me feel beautiful :)

Her attitude immediately felt cold and uninviting. As people of color, we couldn't help but notice that she appeared much friendlier and more attentive to other non-colored customers in the store. We looked around on our own and found a couple of dresses we liked. When I asked where we could try the dresses on, instead of walking us to the fitting rooms or offering assistance, she simply pointed and said, "there's people over there if you need help," without any effort to actually help us. Later, while my sister was trying on dresses, the employee spoke to us in a very rude and unfriendly tone, saying that she had to zip the dress herself. We completely understand store policies, but it was the way she said it that felt disrespectful. When I told her we didn't appreciate how she spoke to us, her response was that she didn't care. This situation was especially upsetting because this is my sister's first and last prom. She actually found a dress she liked, but the poor customer service made her feel so uncomfortable that she decided to leave without buying it. No one should feel unwelcome or treated differently while shopping, especially during such an important moment. Customer service makes a huge difference, and sadly, our experience at Z Couture did not reflect kindness, professionalism, or respect. I truly hope management takes situations like this seriously and works to ensure that all customers are treated equally and respectfully.

My dad called to tell me that he is absolutely THRILLED with his new, custom trousers and shirt, and that I could not have given him a better Father's Day present. Why did this touch me so? My dad is a man who lovingly and gracefully raised three girls with all of the body issues that accompany that endeavor. He has been having body issues of his own for the last 3 years. Complaining of a stomach ache, he ended up having emergency appendix removal, appendix exploded on the table, 9" of intestines removed and a month in the hospital. He has not really been the same since. His body dramatically changed shape and none of his clothes fit right after that month. Dad was always a dapper dresser, with the kind of attention to the details that made my mom smile and say he would have made a great hair dresser. I do not think I have ever EVER seen my dad in a t-shirt or in jeans. He is snappy, and he likes to look snappy. He did not believe that the clothes would fit any better than what he could get from a men's store. Holly comes to your home, does about 100 measurements, talks with you while you choose specific fabrics from her many samples that you can touch and feel. You also choose specific design details for your shirt, trousers, or jacket. She arrives at your home later with the goods. I have a friend who looks like a model and is on the "call" list for By George For Men and Stag. He loves to look sharp and that can be very spendy. He now has several custom shirts, trousers, and even a jacket from J. Hilburn that make him look like a million bucks without breaking the bank. Once they have your measurements in the system, friends and family have a very easy job buying you the perfectly fitted shirt or trousers... and my dad even admitted that it is not anything at all like the clothing at a men's store, made for the masses. He went from, "nothing will ever fit quite right" to, "can you call Holly and order another shirt?"

We hired a photographer and gathered our team together for a photo shoot in the next few weeks. The photographer provided us with clothing recommendations and that is when I had the Aha Covid moment. I hadn't worn a suit or a business jacket in years. Pre-Covid for sure. To be fair, I rarely did to begin with, but I did have a suit and a couple of jackets. I pulled them out and to my surprise, none, I mean not a single one of them fit. It wasn't that I had gained significant weight, but the last 3 yrs I have been regularly working out with a trainer. The jackets fit as well as the jackets Pee-Wee Herman used to wear. I needed a jacket and needed it in a few weeks. I have driven by Capra, numerous times over the years and promised myself, that I would treat myself and pick up a suit there one day. Well this was a perfect time to do so. I grabbed Suz to head out to Capra. They are easy to get to and have a parking garage at no cost. Which is a plus. We walked in to the store and behold, all sorts of suits, jackets, shirts, slacks. I mean everything a dude could wish for. I made my way in and Ivan approached me and asked if he could be of service. I explained why I was there and my timeline. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to have a suit made in time for the photo shoot, but he did let me know of a very nice high end line of ready made, if you will. We looked at swatches and being a favorite of blue, found a colour that I really liked. He looked at me and said, I believe your are a 48R, which I was a few years ago. So we slipped one on and immediately went to a 50R, if I remember correctly. He jumped on a call quickly, only to find out they didn't have one in stock that size, but had options. Again, this was a timeline issue for me. I knew I was pushing finding something of quality with only a couple of weeks notice. Ivan had an alternative, which was actually my second favorite, so we went with that version. He let me know it would be shipped in a few days and he would give me a call once at the store to be fitted. True to his word, he called and I was off to get fitted. The jacket was everything I expected. Fine tailoring, wonderfully soft material and the colour was perfect. He spent about 5-10 minutes fitting it, making chalk lines and let me know when it would be ready to pick up. Less than a week later, I popped by to pick it up, it was fitted correctly and off I went. Ivan was polite, insightful, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. A pleasure to work with. I will find a time to come back and have a suit made at Capra and find reasons to wear as often as possible. What a great experience all around.

While there were three sales associates in store, no one independently offered to show me any items or ask me what I was looking for. When inquired about a couple of pieces of jewelry, one sales associate did show me the pieces. The store inventory tends to be on the higher end pricing side. With that said the pieces appear to be of high quality and unique. Kick Pleat appears to be a boutique for shoppers who enjoy fashion and appreciate carefully curated pieces. The girl that helped me was rude, so I just ended up leaving.
