For example, they could offer vocational or technical programs. Most regionally accredited schools are non-profit, with academics as the primary focus. If you decide to attend a nationally accredited school, remember this: In some cases, regionally accredited schools will not accept transfer credits from a nationally accredited school. This is because of academic standards and differing courses of study." "If you want to attend a professional or specialized college, choosing an accredited program is very important for licensing purposes. Attending an unaccredited college could prevent you from taking the necessary steps for professional US licensure. In some fields, you need a license before you can legally practice your profession in the US. Choosing an accredited school can be crucial! Accreditation is a voluntary process that ensures a college, university, or degree program meets a universal standard for quality. My son started Spanish House when he was about 3 months old. He is always excited to go to school…read moreand loves his teachers like they are family and that love is definitely not one-sided. Everyone that works in that school knows my child by name. This is not a daycare. It is a school from 3 months old and on. All the teachers are native Spanish speakers and only communicate in Spanish with the students. In addition to being Spanish immersion, they follow the Project-Based Learning Curriculum even in the nursery school. Your child will not be sitting around all day, their days are full of activities. Each month is a different theme/project and the teachers tailor-fit their lesson plans to match. For example, this month's theme at the nursery and preschool schools is "Deja un Mensaje/Leave a Message." Students are learning all about communication - the traditional and modern ways to stay in touch, the importance of the messages that we send and how communication can connect us to other cultures. The entire school is decorated with mailboxes and letters. I highly recommend checking them out!

All of the classes are done in a total immersion setting. I have only been studying Spanish for a short time, but I already feel like I am making good progress thanks to the teachers here. Prison Entrepreneurship Program

    Prison Entrepreneurship Program

I became involved with the Prison Entrepreneurship Program after reading a b-school friends blog…read moreentry of his experience with the program working as an Executive Mentor. I was moved by the concept of providing inmates the means to view their release from prison as a true second chance and a way to positively re-enter society. As the program explains, two-thirds of released inmates will return to prison within three years. However, those inmates that graduate from this program have a recidivism rate below three percent. From those numbers it is clear that PEP changes people's lives for the better. These statistics are more easily understood when one attempts to take a look at the world from an inmates' point of view. Most everyone in the outside world understands that these men committed terrible crimes and deserved to be punished. Yet much fewer probably realize how very scary it is for the inmates to leave prison and re-enter society. Inmates are released with the clothes on their backs, up to $100, a bus ticket and a criminal record. In reality, these men will be repeatedly rejected from their families, potential employers, public housing facilities and even churches. They face a difficult road. PEP provides these men a real opportunity to reintegrate them back into society and to never return to prison. For many of these men, graduating from this program is the greatest accomplishment of their lives. I have worked with PEP as an Executive Mentor over the last two programs. My duties in this role aren't many, mainly they are to revise an inmates' business plan, resume and personal statement as well as perform some online research for his business idea. All told I have done less than 15 hours of work each time, so it is not a huge time commitment. There are many optional events one can participate in also but usually they require you to be in the Dallas- Fort Worth area and I have been unable able to participate so far. I believe this is a worthwhile program which I plan to continue to work with and I would recommend to anyone to join in.
