I have something to confess - I definitely search for "most Instagrammable restaurants" when I…read moretravel - because I love a good theme, or an ambiance that is out of this world. And let me tell you right now - Tattu lived up to the hype I read online and THEN SOME! We booked a later reservation because we were coming back from a tour that day, and we were promptly seated right when we arrived. The vibe was exactly as described - it was upscale, and very ethereal feeling. Trees uplit with purple and pink lights, black marble tables, more floral/light touches, and a dragon mural on the ceiling and also in a projected design on the far wall of the dining area. And luckily, the food was just as good as the ambiance. My friend and I both did the Evening Set Menu, that included a starter for each person and a main dish per person. They also had desserts and sides that you could add for an extra charge (we did a dessert each, and they were also amazing, but more on that later - hold your horses!). I had the Crispy Pork Belly for my starter and it was divine - nice and crispy outside with a soft middle and a delicious dipping sauce. My friend did the Duck Spring Rolls and they were so tasty as well (we split a few of each others' starter). The cherry hoisin sauce that came with the spring rolls was fantastic and a little sweet and sour at the same time. These starters were not so heavy that we didn't have room for our main courses, which I appreciated. For the entree, I had the White Miso Salmon, and the filet was so tender with a miso sauce that was to die for. The Jasmine rice that accompanied them mixed super well with everything too. My friend had the Chinese BBQ Chicken, and it was a large filet that was super flavorful (the bites I had), because it was absolutely coated in the BBQ sauce, and a very juicy filet, too. I would recommend either of the mains or starters that we picked for the evening set menu, based on our experience. As I mentioned, the dessert is not included in the set evening menu, but you can add it at the end - and my friend and I both did! She had the Asian Pear Sticky Toffee pudding, and it was so delectable - a toffee brownie type square with a large mound of buttery ice cream on top, and caramel and cinnamon to top it off. I had the Chocolate Hazelnut Pagoda, and it was a stunner! Literally a chocolate cake "dirt" on top of vanilla whipped pudding, with cherry ice cream on top and a hazelnut chocolate pagoda tree with cotton candy for the leaves. While that sounds awesome in itself, it also came with a cloud of dried ice "smoke" billowing out of it. So cool, and it definitely tuned a few heads when it arrived. So from the super cool and upscale ambiance, excellent service, and out of this world food - I definitely recommend Tattu for a special occasion, date night, or to take anyone you want to really impress!

We went here on a whim after being turned away from booked restaurants nearby. Wow!! The best…read moreservice we have encountered yet while traveling overseas. The food was stellar- we had the soft shell crab, veggie spring rolls, salty chicken wings, and the Singapore noodles. They got us in quickly and the staff was so pleasant. Would 100% come back if we were staying longer. Also- incredible prices!!

Reviewing a Chinese Restaurant is normally a bit same ol' same ol' - especially when it comes to…read moremany different dishes that are on offer and you are left wondering how they can cook all that with the same quality or without tasting similar - however Karen's Unicorn changed that notion for me. Their menu is not extensive but has enough variety to warrant an extra few minutes to choose. There are 4 Set meal options available. And the a la carte has some nice twists on the usual Chinese Regional dishes. I started with the hot & sour soup - very clearly home made and with good taste and fillings - in my opinion could have been hotter. My main course was a Beef Udon (I normally associate this with Japanese food but as a North China dish it was very well made, tasty and not too sweet - however it did lack a bit on chili - which they very kindly provided on the side. My wife and my friend went for the shredded Peking Duck pancakes between them and it was expertly shredded at the table by our waitress. I normally don't do dessert, but I didn't want this visit to be over so I ordered the fried banana in batter.. yum yum! finished with a coffee and brandy. The place has managed one thing - I actually managed a conversation without having to comment on, service, draft or meal mishaps. All was done with a sense grace and minimalist invisible perfection. Had just arrived in Edinburgh and hadn't eaten yet so after dropping my bag off at the hotel, took…read morea walk to explore and see what food options were nearby. I entered the restaurant and was greeted by a gentleman who I assume is the owner. He spoke broken English but understood that I intended to order and dinenin and directed me to a table in the corner then brought me menus in both English and Chinese. I ordered a Sprite to drink and got spring rolls and the duck which spring onion and garlic. I didn't get any rice as I wanted something sort if light to tide me over until the evening meal. Not sure if they don't carry a Sprite or maybe Sprite is packaged differently but what I git instead was. 7Up. Spring rolls were hot and delicious and the duck was good though too much onion for me. Overall good meal.

So another review long in the making!…read more This is by no means your average Chinese Take Away... even though they do take away, strike that from your thoughts if like me it conjures up thoughts of sub par Chinese food that is pretty much the same up and down the UK. That said, some may find this place a bit too adventurous compared to your standard Chinese establishment... if you've been to Red Chilli somewhere else in the UK then cross that place with one of the better take aways (even though this isn't a take away), and you may have an idea of what this place is like. It's not as posh or big as Red Chilli, but still takes the off the beaten path approach to some of it's dishes. For an example of dishes I've liked... the Pan-fried Dumplings Stuffed with Juicy Pork were good and definitely seemed home made... the Salt & Pepper Squid was cooked perfectly, but I do wish it had been cooked with chillies and garlic as well and may ask if they can work that one out next time... I can't fault them for it as it is though, it's not Chilli Garlic Squid after all. My favourite dish, that keeps me coming back, is the (Boneless) Szechuan Style Chicken with Chilli & Pepper in Deep Fry... it is simply crazy if salt and heat are your things... I'm literally craving it now just thinking about all of those peppercorns and dried chillies... nom! It won't be for everyone, but if a salty and spicy dish sounds up your alley then perhaps worth a go. For starters, I actually really like the Mixed Jellyfish which seems to surprise them... it has a great garlic taste, but one that I wouldn't fault. For more basic fare, I've had the Fried Noodles (really enjoyed, not too oily) and the Shrimp Fried Rice (on par with better take aways, a bit oily but with good flavour)... to counter this however they offer things like Cucumbers with Garlic Sauce, exactly as it sounds, to offer a healthy alternative. I could actually go on about the different foods that I personally like, but I think if you came here with a few friends and/or ordered a few dishes you would figure out if the food was for you. I've had things I haven't loved, and things that really stood out, but the biggest compliment I can pay is that I look forward to exploring the menu. On to the place itself... adequate probably sums it up to be honest... nothing mind blowing, but nothing bad either... it seems to have just enough space, I've never been turned away at a busy period, but I have gotten the last available table... generally it seems quite calm, but as others have mentioned there is normally a group or two of Chinese people there eating all sorts of wonders (I'm so crashing one of their feasts one day!) which is a good sign I suppose. The staff are brilliant, but can be a little rough with English... I don't fault that however (I mean, ask me to speak Chinese!) and I actually find it a bit charming, it never gets in the way in the end regardless. The downsides to me are the varying hours... I'm not a fan of "open until late"... I think Yelp and some other places have posted hours, but trust me... call if it's past 9pm... they are definitely open late sometimes, but I've also shown up at 9pm to find them closed on two occasions. They also seem to be less accepting towards cards towards the tail end of the night, but otherwise accepts them. Regardless, these guys have also gone out of their way holding pick-up orders for me and creating home made chilli sauces so personally I let the weird hours and card policies slide... I wouldn't be so forgiving had the service been bad, but I can't pretend that's the case. All in all, I'll definitely be back and am grateful that these guys are in Fountainbridge.
