I went there when I was a kid and I just too my girls there too. The popcorn is air popped so it seems pretty healthy. Good memories.

This place is the best! My parents used to take me and my siblings to the Popcorn Store every now and then when we were kids, and I was always so excited for those trips! I am always talking to my friends about it because they live in Wheaton now and I can't even think of Wheaton without thinking of this store. They have delicious popcorn and a huge variety of candy. It's fun because you get to grab a little paper bag and then fill it with your choice of whatever you want from a whole wall of options in this tiny hallway-sized shop. Yes I outside of my FAM have only a few good memories of WHEATON Ha thats NOT true, but the church's and the BILLY GRAHM center could sometimes be a bit much. Of course my fondest memories are of SUGAR and THIS store. That rocker guy behind the counter of the popcorn shop and the tall guy at the wheaton theater are the 2 charectors of wheaton I still remeber. I lived in Wheaton from 1971 til I moved out of parents house in 1991. My teeth are still falling out from 1980's ZOTZ I still go there when i'm in town and the GUY still remembers ME. So rad I look at that guy and KNOW he still plays D.N.D. as do I. I love this store And rad MAMA said holler for seein ghost at the wheaton theater WELL I trump that I saw STAR WARS there in 1977! But also the tall guy was strict about outside food so it was also fun to sneak it in. But back to the popcorn shop they still have the SALTIEST pumkin seeds on the planet also last year I was there and the owner said he don't stock ZOTZ cause they changer their recipe so they carry FIZZ or something, but ONE negative a could say is that their popcorn though SO awesome I feel as do my four sisters that THAT recipe has changed a bit as well still very very good. read more

This was one of my favorite stores to go to as a kid. I would go with my Dad or after visiting the violin shop in the area. We would get so much candy and I knew I could get whatever I wanted since the prices were so low. I didn't know it's name and have been looking for it forever, finally decided to use Google, success! This storefront is simply adorable and completely nostalgic. It's quite small (no bigger than an alley), but the size adds to the appeal. The store has a wide selection of penny candy and selections that many other places no longer carry. I had a bag of popcorn that was lightly salted and not greasy like many other places. While the popcorn was not out of this world, the feeling I had about this place was. I'm sure I'll be back, as this place is a delight. read more

This place is absolutely tiny, but absolutely fantastic! I remember going here as a child, and I hadn't been back in years until today. I was looking all over for Squirrel Nut Zippers for my father-in-law, and of course this place was the only one I could find that carried them. You just need to look for the red front door to find it...blink and you'll miss it. I'm excited for a time when I have kids old enough to go pick out their own candy. It's such an exciting treat, and very affordable! I live out of state, but I'll be back during my next visit to the area. read more

This was actually built in an alley between two stores. Throw up a back wall, roof and front wall. Leave the two brick buildings as the sides and you have the candy store! Would never get by with building that today but the City of Wheaton knows better than mess with an icon! I remember going in there ever since I was kid. It's as if I was walking back in time. I absolutely loved coming here as a kid! I haven't been back in years, but plan on taking my kids this spring. I'm 26 and the alley candy store was definitiely a highlight of my childhood. Paper dots, bubble gum cigarettes, bulls-eye candies (aka caramel creams), ring pops, you name it they had it! I can't remember ever having the popcorn, but I do remember seeing Ghostbusters 2 around the corner!!! :) Dad used to take my sister and me bowling (Wheaton Bowl....those gold doors were the coolest in the 80s) either before or after the candy store. Don't overlook this tiny crack in the wall. Basically that's what it is an alley in between some other stores converted into a candy store. Grab a little bag fill it up with candy and smuggle it into the movies! You know you do it too, don't lie! I've been going to the popcorn store since I was in third grade and that was in 1952. Don't ever remember being annoyed getting in and out. Do remember an elderly lady that sat in the chair at the end of the store - always wore black - and took our money, gave us the popcorn and watched us like a hawk that we didn't take any more candy that we paid for. Yes, and it was a penny, sometimes, two for a penny. My uncle used to tell us he would drive out on Saturday night from Elmhurst when he was a young man to go to the popcorn store as a date. This was in the 30's. Yes, the popcorn store is one of the best places on earth. I live in Pennsylvania and miss it so much. Hope you all take good care of it. read more

My children love this little shop. The place is no bigger than an alley. They have candy on one wall and popcorn in the back. There are a lot of choices for a child that only has $1.00 in his pocket. This place is such a local favorite that our elementary teachers pass out $1 Popcorn Store tokens to students that complete their summer work packets. Ok well i worked here for 2 years now and have found it to really be a special place. Disregaurding my own feelings, every other person that comes in tells me what a cool place it is. Most people come in out of curiosity because it is a 4 foot by 4-5 foot alleyway, full of candy and popcorn. We have all sorts of candy, but specialize in the classics. Almost everyone loves the popcorn (its only 1 type; white popcorn lightly salted cooked in vegetable oil) So many people come in that are like 70 years old to tell me they used to come in when they were kids, and we haven't changed one bit. Noone wants us to leave, and i really think that makes it a cornerstone of wheaton. Personally i love the place, i could gorge on all the cheap gummy candy and popcorn all day, i love the boss, hes awesome. overall, a very cool place tha tyou should check out atleast once, or again for old times sake. read more

I have loved this place since "Irma Brown"? ran it in the 50's and 60's. And my folks before that! In the early 60's my friends and I would go in and enjoy the absolute Best Popcorn ever made by mankind! Hot, delicious, unique, unequaled, NO need for butter at ALL. The most unique taste you'll ever enjoy. (plus the coolest selection of candy!) I remember it was rumored that the Dugans family on lincoln, down the street from me, (Dennis Dugan, Happy Gilmore, etc.) would have a treat on Sunday nights and enjoy popcorn from the liitle alley store, and malts from Prince Castle or Cock Robbin, for Dinner!! ...While they watched wonderful world of color(disney) on their Color TV! We kids were SO envious! But this popcorn can easily be a meal. It is SOOO delicisous. But now I live in California, with NO access! Bill, can you please fed ex me some if I send money in advance? I remember this place when I was a child, as does my mom! Now living in Southern Illinois, and I bring my kids up there every time we visit. I send them in with $5 and they fill up their bags. It is the highlight of their trip to Chicagoland. We hop the train in Geneva, ride right into Wheaton and visit the shop. Then we walk through the park that's a block or so away- it's great. Forget about caramel corn, kettle corn, and all of the myriad flavors that hide the true taste within. This place is the real deal. Without a doubt the best plain old popcorn anywhere. I am a popcorn hound and eat it everywhere, all over the country. Billy, the owner, pops the perfect corn using a secret blend of oils and a little salt. Prices are low and popcorn is always hot and fresh. Inside the long, narrow shop is also a wall of penny(nickel) candy to make small children behave.
