While all I got was a buzz cut, I would definitely recommend it as a great place to go for a haircut in downtown. Here are the reasons: 1) Reasonable price: only $20 for a buzz cut, which is great. 2) Lots of availability: had no problem getting in when I wanted to. 3) Clean shop with good a/c: it's hot out! 4) Friendly workers: had a nice convo! 5) Good cut: just a buzz cut, but did a nice job. Bad cut after bad cut for my son, and I was over it. My friend had just come back from a trim and was raving about Isla. With nothing left to lose, I made an appointment. The time, effort, and care put into his cut was incomparable. Isla explained how my son's cowlicks moved and how they were going to make the cut work with his hair, rather than against it (as many others had attempted to do instead). I was happy, yet expressed hesitance in styling it after the fact, and Isla took extra time to show me how to work it and told me to contact them if I ever had any questions. The talent and customer service is goddamn real, guys. Nice people and good people, decent haircut although did find a-lot of flaws( for some reason he cuts WAY TOO much around the ears) but when i got home the absolutely worst part was a horrible beard trim!! I was in Phoenix for a day off and need to get my hair cut. I found The Local downtown location just a few blocks from my hotel. I made an appointment with Marissa for 10am on a Tuesday. I think I was the first appointment of the day. I was warmly greeted when I entered the shop and asked if I had an appointment. I gave him my name and Marissa, standing toward the back of the shop said, "You're with me, have a seat." She asked what I wanted done and showed her a photo of how my hair is supposed to look. She examined my hair and the photo, then went to work. Thirty minutes later, I walked out looking like a movie star. I'm sure I looked exactly the same as when I walked in, I just know I walked out with a great hair cut. I highly recommend this shop and, specifically, Marissa. Love this place. Great vibe. It's not a big chain with low quality. Its not an $8 "super" cut from whoever of the 12 people are available. It's got a small, exclusive feel with excellent talent. Always good music and conversation. All the barbers are super polite and everyone ends up in a fun conversation together. It feels like going to visit with friends. Update: 1 year later and Duncan is still the MAN! Ya see I am not what you would call a handsome man. The good lord chose not to bless me with charm, athletic ability or a fully functional brain (bonus points if you get that reference) But when I walk out of this shop the amount of confidence I have is unreal, they make me feel like Toby Maguire in Spider-Man 3. Ya know when he's walking around with his new found confidence? Yeah that's me after I get a fresh fade from Duncan. It seriously feels like A cheat code from GTA but for confidence something something up down left right L1,L2,R1,R2. And if you have a beard don't worry these guys will do a great job. I love having a beard but hate maintaining it and these guys are the only ones I'd trust with it.
