Delicious local fare served by friendly people! It is a large, open-plan restaurant. However, it was not loud like some of those can be. I really enjoyed the tender and flavorful French Dip. The fries were nicely crispy without having to ask. (I don't like soggy fries!) read more

The food tasted great. It was prepared just right. The server was really nice, quick. The food came out quickly as well. It was snowing and there was about 4 tables ahead of us and it was still brought to us in a timely manner. The servers make you feel ver welcome and it just felt cozzy in there. We have left reviews all over the country, having traveled literally coast to coast. This was our first time in Kearney and unfortunately, everytime we think of or discuss Kearney, this will be the first thing that comes to mind. Something anyone in the service industry should remember; you're not just representing the business, but also the town in which you are located. We stay three hours away and go often to Lincoln, but have no desire to stop back here because of this. The Lodge had absolutely the rudest service I've experienced at a restaurant in yearrrs, maybe ever. It started with HORRIBLE coffee. It was so weak it was transparent when poured and tasted like tea. It didn't even smell like coffee. We couldn't catch our waitress's eye, despite her walking past our table no less than 5 times and us saying "excuse me ". They had customers but were by no means swamped. Over 1/2 the tables were empty. Zero reason to be ignored by her. The hostess/manager, an elderly woman, came by and I asked if we could perhaps have a fresh pot of coffee, that this one was very weak. She yells (YELLS) at us and stomps off. The coffee issue wasn't a big deal to us until she she decided to yell at us so we decided to leave. We had two juices (an orange and a tomato) and went to pay for them. She again yells and says "AND you're paying for that coffee !". I was floored. I said we didn't drink any. She said "Yeah, well, it was POURED!". She was a nasty, horrible woman who has no business working in the service industry. A simple, "No, I'm sorry, that's just the coffee we use, would you like me to take it away?" would have been fine, we would have stayed. Instead, two juices, untouched coffee and getting yelled at cost us $15 and change. I left embarrassed from being screamed at and almost in tears. So we went to Perkins, had GREAT coffee and incredibly friendly service. Our waitress received a 50% tip just for smiling and being nice. read more

I would have asked her for anything else, but if she didn't or doesn't slow down at my table to even indicate that she is interested in checking with me. There is nothing more to add. Let me first say the waitress at our table was kind and attentive. On the other hand the female manager was verbally rude to our group because of our request for another table. I can accept being denied my request for a table in a different location. What is unacceptable is her loudly and rudely telling us our request was not an option. We needed a place to eat while traveling through. Menu looked like what we wanted, so here we were. Everything was very good. Service extremely friendly. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I wish I could give this place less than a star. It doesn't even deserve one at all. After waiting TWO HOURS for our food, when it came to our table the portion amount was so small and extremely UNDERCOOKED!!! The food tasted horribly and after sharing very politely with the owner what happened, she absolutely blew up on us. She cut me off before I could even finish talking and started yelling over me! She said," well alright, just never come here again." Oh trust me I won't be and I urge you not to as well! May I add another observation, she treats her staff horribly too! Absolutely terrible experience. Went to the new location thinking it would be nice but we were we very wrong. We got there around 7 pm and were sat fairly quickly. Once we sat down the waitress took a while to take our drink order and food order which was fine. There was only two of us and one of our orders had a salad. Took about 20 minutes to get our salad. After that our waitress never came back to check on us. We saw a table of two and a table of six get their food before us even thought we ordered before them. Then we see the couple that was next to us in the waiting area leaving from finishing their meal. After this I flagged down a different waitress to ask if we could just pay for our salad and drinks and leave because we had been waiting for an hour for our food and other people who were sat after us were already leaving. She said she would talk to our waitress and when our waitress came over she literally just stared at us. We said that we just wanted to leave since we have been waiting so long. She said she would pay for our salad and drinks. Nobody ever said sorry. Nobody ever explained what happened. Truly unbelievable. I will remember to mention to everyone to never dine here. read more

Don't judge ! This is a must. It may not look appealing initially, but this was by far our best breakfast on our 3,000 + mile trip. Food was delicious. Portions were more than generous. Staff seemed to work as a team very well, making service top notch. They were friendly, attentive and kind. Busy little restaurant at an old fashioned motel. One server Nicole who was not friendly at all, she did not tell us about the special, roast beef. In her defense, she was the only server and had to move fast. The greeter was nice. Side salad was just lettuce, mashed potatoes are instant, ham & bean tasted canned, as did the green beans. The saving grace was the meat. I ordered half rack of ribs, which were tasty, but I had to request sauce, she brought a bottle of Sweet Baby Rays, which was fine. My wife had salmon with peach relish, which she liked. I had a taste and thought the fish was wonderful, and so was the sauce. The wife gobbled down a rib which I gave her. To top things off, they had real butter! Grassland pats, that counts in my book. Since there are strong pluses and strong minuses, I rate the Lodge right in the middle with 3/5 stars. We drive through Kearney a couple of times per year. We might give them another try, we will see. read more

The french dip is a classic favorite. I enjoy the corn beef hash and eggs. The only item that needs improvement is the coffee tends to be on the weak side. We had dinner delivered from here tonight and it pretty much went from the bag to the trash. It was so bad it was unedible. One bite of chicken breast on the chicken parm and I realized that the crust of the chicken was mush from the pile of week-old canned spaghetti sauce piled on top. I think the parmesan maybe came out of a shaker. Yikes!! I'm thinking that perhaps they don't know that bread that is old still tastes old even if you try to turn it into garlic bread. Grabbing two handfuls lettuce mix out of a bag does not constitute as a side salad. When you make homemade dressing may I suggest using a whisk. Don't even get me started on the burnt chicken fried steak that my husband took a bite out of. I wouldn't brag on that house recipe coating you used. I could have caught my $40 on fire and ate the remainders and had a better meal. read more

The Lodge is a hidden secret in Kearney. The atmosphere takes you back to a simpler time. The staff is friendly and takes good care of you. The food has been excellent every time I have eaten at this restaurant. My favorite time is breakfast, but the lunch has been good too. Not fancy, just good old fashioned comfort food. read more

Traveling here on business and the breakfast at my hotel was not good so I came here on my way to work. Really cool place attached to a motel. Greeted and seated right away, definitely a local place which is cool. Order 2 eggs over med, crispy hash brown, bacon wheat toast. Everything came out cooked prefect just the way I like it. People were very nice and you could tell they want you to have a great meal. I would highly recommend for breakfast as that's what I had but would not be worried about trying lunch or dinner here. Seriously good breakfast. Step back to the 1970s (or earlier?) when you enter the Lodge. It is everything that a diner is supposed to be. Fluffy eggs, wood paneling, magical pancakes, homestyle-decor, crispy bacon, cozy tables, amazing hashbrowns... The waitress was very friendly, the food was very good (and so were the prices). If you a staying the night, or driving through town this is definitely a great place to stop. The dining area is not very big, but they have a few tables that easily sit larger parties. read more

Doesn't look like much - a little restaurant under a motel? But it's so cozy and cute inside!! We unknowingly came on a night with live music and that was so fun! My Husband and I stayed at the connecting motel and ate dinner and breakfast here. I had salmon and he had spaghetti and meatballs and we were both pleased with the food and pleasant service and atmosphere. A bonus was Janice who played acoustic guitar and serenaded us through our meal. Breakfast was wonderful and made to our asking- the cook had crispy bacon and hash browns down pat! I will start by saying the service was good and everyone was very friendly. Now the food was inedible. My boyfriend ordered a top sirloin steak and fries. The fries tasted extremely undercooked and the steak tasted like nothing/water. We couldn't even taste a hint of flavor. I ordered chicken fried streak. The second I took a bite I spit it back out, the breading was soggy. My meal was sitting in standing water. Bummer, we were very excited to try this place due to good reviews.
