Dive bar in the truest and most complimentary sense of the term! We loved the Lodge and all who work there. Great bar staff, cocktails, dogs, peanuts, and music. This place has character. It's a fun, lively place that's often filled with tourists and locals alike. Drinks are reasonable for the neighborhood. The only drawback is the small size. The layout means it can be cramped when the bar gets crowded. But it's still one of my favorite places on Division Street. read more

We came for the lodge's annual Puppy Bowl and Super Bowl Watch Party. Strangely, the bartender didn't know how to change the TV channel and we had to ask them to change the channel for their own watch party. Now officially my favorite place to get a Guinness in Chicago, and that is high praise! I'll take splitting a G at the Lodge over the new Guinness place in the West Loop anyday. Service is excellent and friendly always. TouchTunes Jukebox is always stellar. The baskets of peanuts are always a welcome reminder that sometimes things are best kept simple. What's not to love about this classic gem?!?! Located on an iconic block on Division Street, this small building packs a historic punch. Oh the memories inside these dingy wooden walls. Not much in the way of updates, which creates perfection. Make sure to check out all the amazing details, including the jukebox. The Lodge has this little trick in their pocket. They have a food license but does not have a kitchen. Sooo, they have a deal with a nearby hot dog place so that customers can order fast food delivery. Before COVID, there were peanut baskets on the bar and peanut shells all over the floor. We enjoyed a couple of draft beers that weren't exactly ice cold. Great to hang out anyway. The bartender was fun and friendly - just what you want in a corner bar. Bottom line, check it out if you are a local or a visitor to our amazing city! read more

The name says it all. This place has the aesthetics of a small cozy lodge you would find somewhere in Maine ha. Love the feel though heavy wood interior, small but with a good amount of windows so doesn't feel cramped, big long bar top with fast&friendly service and a juke box in the back corner. Kind of a dive bar feel without the sticky beer soaked floors and gloomy interior. Very clean place. Definitely a bar to hit up if you're looking for a laid back chill environment which can be a nice change of pace from the neighboring division street bars. One of my favorite perks here are the free peanuts. A match made in heaven, Cold beer and Roasted peanuts. Don't worry germaphobe's the peanuts are in shells so everyone's happy! I would be remiss if I did not comment on Sophia's help throughout the entire process of selecting the right venue for the private event. She was patient, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Furthermore, she was responsive at all times to assist. As for The Lodge Tavern, I have frequented the bar several times but never had I known how great it would be to host an event. Staying at Viceroy hotel for marathon and always told to visit here. Have been before and did not like bartender when she yells at customers. Tonight it happens again, new customer from months before. Went to smoke outside as mate stayed sitting and gal she yelled at showed bartender was wrong but still not allowed a drink? Nolle talks for 10 minutes after about Roan, think she is fellow bartender, and ignored me trying to pay. Does not take American cash. You need better staff. Malort!!! This place is a Chicago institution. It's been around forever. Most bars around the Windy City shut down at 2am. Not the Lodge. It's been around so long that it was grandfathered in, to allow it to stay open til 4am. Seriously, this is awesome. This place just feels historic- like an old hunting lodge. Everything is classy in here, covered in rich, dark wood. The bar, the walls, everything is classy. Except for the Malort- that stuff is gross. But, you gotta get it in Chicago. It's Chicago's own liquor, it tastes like absinthe without the good stuff. Trust me, try it. My favorite thing about this bar is the peanuts- they offer them for free, and nobody seems to mind if you throw the shells on the floor. They offer sports on the TV and plenty of cold, local beers. I heard that when the Cubbies won the World Series, that Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam and Bill Murray came here to shut the place down. read more

Okay, this is one of my new favorite dive bars in Chicago. Why? Well, first is the location. This place is tight in the heart of the Gold Coast. Or Streeterville or whatever. Hey, sue me. I'm fairly new to Chicago. Anyway, we stopped here for a drink after a very, very, VERY disappointing visit to a local hotdog place that has stopped serving New Mexican green chilis. So sad. Anyway, I had to have a drink after that. And The Lodge fit perfectly. Sean was our bartender and he was amazing. Great stories and super personable. We had drinks and peanuts and watched sports and talked to Sean about life and celebrities that had been in the bar and all that. Seriously, ask Sean about the celebrities that have been in. It's multiple fun stories. Anyway, if The Lodge was right around the corner from our place this would be the place that literally destroys my liver. Even so, this is right up there in the running for my new favorite bar. But not for the Vikings. That's still my boys at Redmond's. read more

Small Irish bar with a few beer options and free peanuts which, in total, was the highlight. You flick the peanut shells on the floor, chat with your friends and swig your beer. Simple, yet effective. However, disappointingly the two beers that I wanted had issues with the barrels... and with a small selection of taps, I just settled for something random off list. read more

This is must stop in for a beer and have some rustic peanuts and throw them in the floor pub. It has been here over 60 years. It has old architecture and the people watching from locals to tourist is great. You tell the locals by the stories they tell. I would have to say to bucket list this for at least one beer and may be a shot experience. read more

Can totally see how this is a staple, especially for St. Patty's day. Made a reservation for the holiday, and it was very crowded. Tickets needed to be pre-booked online but the deal was pretty good. Outdoor seating was either in a black tent or in the alley. We had alley seating, and it was great. The tables were very spread out, and we were comfortable. Our server was amazing! Very friendly and good at checking in on an admittedly very busy day. I wish I caught her name so I could compliment her here. The drinks were pretty good, too and came very timely (thanks again to our server!). The St. Patty's day deal was one entree with unlimited Coors Light, Miller Lites, or drinks with Tito (a great deal). My only main complaint is that the food that came with the deal did not have a vegetarian option. The Lodge doesn't have a kitchen, so they don't have a wide array of food option! Just wish we knew our vegetarian friend knew she needed to eat before we came. Definitely a super energetic and young crowd - as expected for St. Pattys. It was a little crowded by the door, and I wish there was better Covid regulations to prevent crowds as people were waiting in line to get checked in. read more

This place is beyond racist. Me and my friend (African American) visited this place after going to Tunnel. Once we got I we went to the bathroom. When we came out they told us we had to order a drink or get out. I asked for one minute since I was finishing a call and they persisted that if we didn't buy a drink right that moment we would be kicked out. Then security was came and told us we had to leave. We asked multiple times what the reason was and they gave us nothing. They said "whatever reason the staff gave us" and I asked what their reason was, they said " we don't know" sooooo there wasn't a reason to make us leave. There were only 4 other people in the whole bar which were all white. Enough said, no names were given, no reasons were given, just cruelty in this world. God says love thy neighbor, and I pray for all those involved in this mistreatment of others. I don't hate anyone I just pray they have better spirits for the next people they encounter. Went here to watch the Bears game, the whole street is shut down to car traffic for outdoor dining. The lodge took reservations to sit outside for the game, and we were able to order food from Downtown Dogs via our phones that were delivered directly to our table, they also had a table side Bloody Mary cart. Funky place out in Gold Coast, I've seen it many times while riding the bus and I finally decided to give it a try! If lively dive bars filled with characters from all walks of life are your thing then I would 100% recommend this place. I brought 2 friends with me who don't frequent places like this and they seemed to be having a good time too; the beer was cold and cheap, good music and atmosphere and the bartenders made sure everyone was taken care of. I knocked it down 1 star because they do sever peanuts as the bar snack. They have baskets of them all over the place and shells on the ground, as a person with a severe peanut allergy this made me feel a little unsafe there. As much as I enjoyed my time there and believe others will, unfortunately I don't think it's a palace I can go back to. read more

This is absolutely one of the best dive bars in Chicago. A quick walk from the Viagra Triangle, it's the most intimate/warming spot in the cesspool of Division Street. When the open air windows are open facing the street, weather permitting, it just can't be beat . I run into the same regulars that I've known for years. I've been invited to many of their homes for holiday brunch/cocktails. The baskets of peanuts and friendly service just solidify the appeal. This is an institution. read more

I could not be more disappointed. We were having a great time until... My experience is: my friend made a reservation for St. Patrick's Day to be seated inside and our table ended up being outside in a tent that had small heaters. One per table. Whatever. Not the worst of it. Unfortunately, a friend of mine tripped over an exposed cord and she was our DD. Totally sober. Her face is bruised and busted up so she approaches the server and the manager. The manager Sean was responsive and heard her out but the bouncers were absolute assholes. And used a derogatory term (fa*gg**) toward another friend for no reason? He was inquiring about the situation (because it was his girlfriend who fell) and the bouncers responded that way. It ended up being a whole situation but the main issue is the way the bouncers responded. Truly laughed at my friend who was very generous and didn't try to sue or press any charges and still the bouncers made fun of her and victim blamed the shit out of it. How do you reconcile this? Quick edit: our server Maddie was PHENOMENAL, perfectly attentive and served us perfectly. She has nothing to do with this review! read more
