    Old Style for the win!

Great spot in Chicago with an incredible history. Went here as part of a tour so I was glad this place was one of our stops. Built 1 year after the Chicago fire it is one of the last buildings(or is the last building) made of wood before they passed the law that structures couldn't be made of wood. Didn't try their food on a menu, it was food made for a party which those are always quantity over quality. However, the drink list is great!

Quick pit-stop ! Ordered Dovetail Kolsch & La Chouffe Belgian Ale ! The bartender was quick, friendly & accommodating! The atmosphere of the bar really leans into maximalism in the best way. Apparently one of oldest bars in Chicago! And has a speakeasy downstairs!

Feels like an old school dive bar, and I adore a good community based watering hole. Our poor server was the only waitress on staff today, but she was very kind, and despite being overworked, she still checked on us regularly. My burger was on the medium well side of the spectrum, but I wasn't going to raise a fuss, considering that it was still edible. The GBT poutine is an interesting innovation; I like it when my fries are extra crispy, not soggy, however the flavor of the dish works somewhat well. Ambiance = 4. Service = 4. Food = 3.

Great local dive bar spot. Plenty of seating, but sitting at the bar is the best. Friendly service, great prices, and tasty drinks! Food is above average bar food - ceasar salad was delicious and a great big portion. Buffalo wings were okay and nothing special. Fries are the delicious crinkle cut kind. Get it with the cheese sauce! My fiancé loved his patty melt, but we both thought the Brussels side was way too syrupy. We are really looking forward to having this place be our new local spot though and trying all the other items!

This is always a good time! We often spend 30-60 minutes here waiting to get into the speakeasy below. And honestly it's equally fun. My favorite is the shot roulette wheel. Especially when you get something undesirable - it's too funny! High quality beer and liquor (except for the shit wheel). A fantastic place to hangout!

Stopped in with a co worker while in the area I grabbed a tavern burger with fries made to perfection and my partner grabbed a corned beef sandwich. Food was great Service by Hannah was great and for the west loop atmosphere the price was right where I expected. A definite must stop if you're in the area

After a trip to the Sloomoo Institute, we were starving and stopped by this place. They had a kids menu that my kids enjoyed. I had the corn beef sandwich and it was delicious! Our server was kind and attentive. The different signs on the wall and ceiling were vintage awesomeness. The legend burger was really good. The deviled eggs were decent, I probably wouldn't get them again. However, I would definitely have the corned beef sandwich. Great place to stop in for drinks, groups, and kids.

Pinball machine alert! Green Door Tavern is such a fun and welcoming bar! My friend and I ordered espresso martinis and were pleasantly surprised. Our waitress was very sweet and accommodating too. I'd definitely come back! -AT

    The Shot Wheel!

My wife and I love going to the Green Door! A short walk from our Chicago place, we've driven past this place for YEARS and finally gave it a try the week we signed our new lease. This place is self-proclaimed to be "the longest operating bar in the city of Chicago"! and an actual speakeasy from the prohibition - And I believe it. The building looks to "lean" as that's how they built structures when the building was constructed in the late 1800s/early 1900s. The building is filled with Chicago memorabilia, neon signs, decorations and lights. It's a history museum for the city of Chicago. So cool! They have Touchtunes so you can play your own music, and a back room that looks like it is straight out of the 70s with a Playboy Pinball machine that takes quarters. The food is incredible. My favorites here are the GDT Burger, the Chili and their fries. I've never ordered anything that I didn't like. They also have a variety of taps, cans, bottles, and a shot wheel if you want to take a risk on a bartender chosen shot. Service is always pretty good. It's fantastic when Caitlyn is around to wait on tables, but they tend to be short staffed on the slower nights - I get it. You can always walk up to the bar for immediate service if you've waited for a few minutes. They also have a "speakeasy" in the basement that looks pretty cool. But I've been turned away every time saying there was a huge line or I needed a reservation (I've literally tried 10-15 times). Kind of weird. It'd be fun to check it out sometime. Still, this has become one of my favorite places in Chicago. Come check it out if you have some free time and find yourself in River North!

They charge me $4 for a kids coke when it's included. Kids grill cheese = $6 Can of coke = $4

I live 4 blocks away and been coming her for over 30 years. Don't know why they started charging me $4 for a kids drink when it's included. And my 6 year old had 2 meal orders $6 grill cheese and a $4 can of coke. Total $16 for a 6 year old girl?

Came here wanting to go to The Drifter, but I came on a Monday and its only open Wed-Sat. Walked all this way from the hotel so I went ahead and ordered the Deviled Eggs and some water because they only have beer and a few seltzer/ciders. The Deviled Eggs were......eh. You could make them just as good at home. Probably better, but they were deviled eggs. This is supposed to be the oldest bar in Chicago and the inside is kitschy and what you would expect, so I would give it 5 stars for ambiance. Good music, perfect volume for a bar. Service was nice. Lady saw I was disappointed that The Drifter wasnt open, not her fault, and quickly took my order and the eggs came ut pretty quick. Checked on me and when I asked for the bill, she was very quick to bring it. 5 of 5 for service. If you want beer, they have it. If you want anything besides beer, they don't have it, but I understand that's more of a ME thing. After all, it is a bar and they have beer on tap and bottle.

    Dirty Martini
    Mayuri A.

Love green door tavern. It's a very old school dive bar with great cocktails and reasonably priced snacks. Most people swing by green door to wait out the long lines at Drifter, but on its own, green door tavern is a great place to casually hangout with friends. Their house cocktails are reasonably priced. After 10, they switch to a cheaper menu with $5-$10 snacks. The service is fast! The servers are nice except for this one server who is very mean. On asking politely for a dirty martini, she appeared snappy. I mean, what? The place screams of old 1900s Chicago with vintage decor, old school billboards and clocks. The fact that drifter is just downstairs is the icing on the cake. A must visit!

I love a bar with Christmas lights year round. Good bar, good service. I had the south side salad and it wasn't just iceberg lettuce which I always appreciate. Next to Mr. beef if you're into that.

    Do they have electronic darts?

No. They do not. As far as I know they only "game" they have is Pinball on the first floor.

    Are there gluten free options?

Yes they have GF options and also do GF buns for any of their sandwiches / burgers on request. Their Brussels sprouts are really good too.

I didn't ask if the selection was "good". A Pint = 16oz and their menu shows 10oz and 14oz beers for the same price elsewhere for a 16oz; do they have Pint glasses?

Its a bar of course they do. But I dont think this place is for you, please dont go there and ruin a nice spot

Your beer menu shows 14oz. drafts. Any Pints?

Yes. They have a good selection. Serving size depends on style and abv

Does this place show boxing fights?

they had boxing on TV when I was there on a Wednesday night recently

The mushroom and kale pie was nice and cheesy and the rocking vegan pie was more savoury, with a variety of vegetables and chickpeas as stuffing. The crust was neither too soft nor too crunchy. The highlight of the meal was the curry chips: potato wedges lightly fried with masala and curry leaves. The dipping sauce that came with the chips reminded me of tikka masala sauce, and paired beautifully with the chips. Dessert was toffee pudding: the caramel sauce that came with the pudding was delectable - the pudding itself was excellent and not overly sweet. We tried a variety of NA beers, and I was pleased with how many options they had. Service was quick, and we were well looked after. The ambiance is warm, with dim-ish lighting and a lot of dark wood. The restrooms were gorgeous - special shoutout to the lovely floral wallpaper. Overall, I highly recommend Pleasant House - the vibe is chill and understated and the food is stellar.

The sausage was very tasty, the breading on the outside was incredibly crisp, light, and the egg inside was cooked well. Both the steak pie and the chicken pie were very good. The chicken pie I think really needed the chutney that you can get separately. But that made it so much better and made it my preferred pie. The steak and ale pie was better than the chicken pie as a standalone, but needed a bit more gravy I think to elevate it. Sticky toffee pudding again was delicious. Surprisingly light, not overly dense so I was glad it came with the custard which was very flavorful. Overall, will definitely return!

I had been wanting to try Industry Ales when it opened and was glad to have had the opportunity to finally check it out! I was slightly thrown off, as the dining tables are at the front of this space, and the bar is all the way at the back. In fact, my friend at first glance thought it was a sit-down dining establishment sans bar seating. We found our way to the bar and posted up at two seats. We were offered menus right away and found the bartender extremely knowledgeable. This was super helpful when facing down an encyclopedia of ales. He offered samples when we explained what we were looking for. That is service above and beyond, especially on a bustling Friday early evening. The brews were tasty, but I couldn't really discern what I was drinking apart to say it was a lighter Belgian Ale. Wine is more in my wheelhouse, but always good to change things up, especially when a person has the opportunity to be guided by an expert. The people seated nearby had ordered the tuna tartare which looked delicious. In fact, all of the menu is globally influenced (think: pizza samosas, pierogis, Korean BBQ) in addition to the classic brewpub favorites. In addition to the Brewpub, this location features the Millroom, a speakeasy-style lounge. I did not have a chance to check that out on this visit. Definitely a cut above the usual sports bar and a place to expand one's knowledge of brews.

Pro Tip: if you can tolerate a large quantity of fish, visit on a Wednesday for their AYCE Fish & Chips. I've had many hum drum AYCE dinners that are drab and only fill you up. Not this one. It's a great meal and a great deal. The Shepherd's Pie was fabulous, as was the Bangers and Mash. They've created a Haggis Burger that has to appease Americans, yet, still be haggis. A tall order since most would hate "true" haggis. Fear not, it's not your grandfather's haggis, it is a tasty burger. The fries were great but I'd recommend the Tattie Skins. We tasted so many different malts it was hard to pick a favourite. No foolin' they had island malts, highland malts, speyside and even a couple from the lowlands. Easy to spend over two hours in this public house. We did. Can't wait to get back to this town. This is a must! 02/26
