I would entitle this review.. "The Wrong Room". I decided to go to a new place in the west Lakeview neighborhood I've lived in for 42 years. I went to the Long Room. Its three blocks from my house and I thought... "why not give them a shot at my business?" I sat for 20 minutes in the empty restaurant/bar. Neither the bar tender nor waitress addressed me. I haven't been here in about 7 years and that is a HUGE mistake on my part. This is truly one of Chicago's hidden gems! Sadly it was very slow when I went in at midday on a Saturday but it made finding a seat easy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also make some awesome coffee! The coffee and Bloody Mary were amazing but the Smashburger is the star of the show! This was quite possibly the best smashburger I've ever had bar none. It was so good, I had a hard time setting it back down. Cooked perfectly, piping hot, and on the perfect bun, this is truly a masterpiece. What a cool little spot! Review is actually for johnnys pizza. We walked in after a few beers at Dovetail brewery. Ordered our pizza at the back counter and were told it'd be about 25 minutes so we sat at the bar. Bartender was very attentive and let us know hamm's were on special for a couple bucks. We had a couple cold ones while we waited for the pizza. Pizza was incredible! I had the pepperoni hot honey one. It was delicious, crispy crust and not very oily. Pulled up to the bar with maybe 6 other patrons already sitting. The bartender didn't even look at me for 10 mins even though I was literally the only person in front of him. He painstakingly made 2 drinks, realized he messed up, started over, made the 2 drinks over, said hello to me, went back to making 2 additional drinks then asked what we wanted. We waited and mid service he says "you wanted what again and what beer?" I said no beer, just the one cocktail. By now it's been 20 mins. I was so fed up. Even to pay the man I had to wait... like he couldn't just take the payment. Very frustrating Only reason it's 1 star is the Tobacco Old Fashioned is phenomenal. As advertised, it is a long bar. There's also a walk-up window for food ordering with a rotating ghost kitchen operating inside depending on the day (the neon sign outside will tell you which one it is today). On the night we went it was AJ's, with various options for sandwiches (including breakfast sandwiches on biscuits; according to the website it looked like these weren't offered at dinner but the person taking our order clarified, and glad she did, because I got the ham and gruyere on a jalapeno cheddar biscuit, and my boyfriend got a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit, and neither of us could stopp remarking how good they were. went here to chill with an acquaintance. i dont drink but she does. Went on Wednesday when Bad Johnny's Pizza was the in-house restaurant for the night. They serve pizza, firewood pizza to be exact. We got the Margharita and the Meatball. We only ate a slice of each and couldn't finish the rest. The pizza was not good. The dough was chewy, the toppings were burnt in some areas and there wasnt much flavor. My friend said one of her drinks was not good and the other was pretty tasty. We sat on the patio. It was like 84 degrees outside. There was a rat running around out there as well, which made us a bit uncomfortable. Not sure why they couldn't put something in place to keep the rats out. Many people smoking cigarettes on the patio as well so if you don't like the smell of cigarettes, especially while you're eating, then I would recommend staying inside. It's pretty dark inside but has a cozy and unassuming vibe. Very chilled. Some people were working on their laptop, others were chilling with friends, others was just sitting alone drinking. Kind of reminded me of a late night hang out spot in college where you would go to sip on a drink and study for a final. I would return just to chill. I just wouldn;t get the pizza and im not sure if id hang out on the patio because of the rat. read more

Super cozy vibes at The Long Room! I love this little spot. It's a bar, restaurant, and coffeeshop. It's rare to find a place you can be knocking out and sip on a coffee in the morning and then order a beer come 5pm -- but that's The Long Room. It's a warm, neighborhood tavern feel inside with a bar up front and a few booths and tables in the back. The coffee menu isn't super extensive (it's definitely a bar first, coffeeshop second), but I did enjoy my iced vanilla latte! The wifi worked great and I was able to find street parking easily out front. Come fall and winter, I'll definitely be frequenting! read more

First ... and last ... time at Long Room My wife and I recently moved-in, very literally, across the alley from the Long Room and decided to check it out Friday night. We love getting to know our neighborhood businesses, and since the weather was great for March, we wanted to grab some drinks and food. The place was lively but not overly packed. Grabbed a seat at the bar about 7:00, asked the [male] bartender for a drink menu, and that was the last time he spoke to us. Without exaggeration, he refused to acknowledge us after that moment. It's not simply that the bartender overlooked us, he took drink orders from people to the right and left of where we were sitting. Each time we gave a nod or small wave to try and get his attention, it was obvious he chose to actively ignore us. It could have only been a conscious effort to take drink orders from people on either side, while purposefully ignoring us. After wasting 20 minutes sitting at the bar with the bartender refusing to take our order - or even look at or speak to us - we decided to leave. I can't imagine we could have done or said anything to deserve that treatment as the single interaction we had with him was to ask for the drink menu. After that, it's like we didn't even exist. Reading recent reviews on other platforms, it seems like the Long Room has a problem with at least one person behind the bar consistently being rude to customers. I doubt we'll be back. We could have spent our time & money next door at a neighborhood watering hole. Instead the bartender decided we weren't worth acknowledging as customers or as people. It's a shame, really, since our windows overlook their outdoor patio ... which can get pretty loud in the summer. read more

This is a great neighborhood bar with tasty cocktails and a decent selection of beers. They also serve food . My issue is the owner owns the building and Airbnb rooms above the bar and refuses to clean the trash up in the alley around his dumpsters. I have emailed and our building has asked numerous times if we can pitch in and help sweep up the garbage and crickets..... There is no way I'd eat at this establishment with the filth found outside the building. Be a responsible good neighbor and keep your garbage picked up. There is a huge rat problem around this area. Take a walk by the building just west on Irving Park and you'll see rats holes everywhere!!! read more

Certainly it's obvious by the name this is a long bar. It makes it a lot easier to get a seat along it! The Long Room is one of the classier bars among the five bars around Ashland and Irving Park. Has a nice cocktail list to choose from including Mezcal and other interesting liquors. You can also get food at one of the attached kitchens or pop ups. As for the bar itself, there's cheap and more expensive drinks. It's about $12 for one of the better cocktails, and some are even more. The best one we tried was the Smoke & Crystal, which obviously has a smokiness. For sure it's a strong cocktail. It's made with Campo Azul Blanco, Rayu Mezcal, with Bitter Ex Cedar, clove bitters, and simple syrup. Other than cocktails, there's a big beer selection with a lot of crafts. There's a lot that are local. Besides the long bar, there's also some comfortable booths. If you want food you can get some from their partners at Bad Johnny's, or from whichever pop up is here. This bar is good for something casual like a beer or fancy like one of the expertly crafted cocktails, and there's plenty of room. read more

I've been in The Long Room a few times, but that was to pick up breakfast from The Biscuit Man. Today was one of those days, but I also decided to pick up a chai latte whilst I was here and that I got from The Long Room. It was incredibly good, one of the best I've had. A nice blend of spice and not at all bland, as chai can often be. When I've been here it's always seemed like a pretty chill place. They have an ATM in the back near the photo booth. Good amount of seating at the bar, two-tops, and a few larger tables at the back. When I was here there were a few men who appeared to be working whilst and just hanging out in the bar. I'm really looking forward to the day that COVID is a bad memory so I can stop in for a drink with some friends. read more

TERRIBLE first impression all thanks to the male bartender who completely ignored me and would not take my drink order. I live in the neighborhood and decided to try this place since it's so close. It was a Friday evening and I sat at the bar with my date. We got the menu, decided what we wanted, but that's as far as we got. We waited about 15 minutes and this bartender took everyone's order but mine, even when he clearly saw me trying to get his attention. It wasn't even that busy. What gives? He never even gave me the CHANCE to piss him off, so what could I have done for him to flat out ignore me? This isn't my kind of place I will gladly never return. We booked a last minute trip to Chicago and we were connected with Ryan. He gave us so much great information about the town and what to do - we had to make the trip to the Long Bar just to meet him! Long Room is the best! If you need somewhere to work remotely outside of your house, this is the place to be. It has a dark cozy vibe, and you can start the day with a coffee and end it with a beer! They serve coffee until about 2:30 or 3, then switch to a full bar. They also serve food during certain parts of the day. Really nice local bar/tavern with a lovely warm ambience. Great place to grab a drink and spend a few hours. The service is good, the menus are large, and it's open late. I had two ciders from the drink menu - one on draft and one canned one. It is nice that they had a number of cider options, seeing as many places just have one, maybe two. They have great options for beers and cocktails as well. The prices are standard: $6-$9 for beers and ciders, and around $12-$14 for cocktails. There is a kitchen attached that you can order food from, but I didn't try it while I was there. The inside is very spacious and long, as promised. There are tables scattered about at the front and side, and a separate room at the back with more tables and bench seating. The bar itself is very long so plenty of bar seating. Toward the back there is a vintage photo booth. We spent about four hours here nursing two drinks each, and I didn't feel rushed at all. Overall this was a very pleasant place to hang out and have a drink. I am glad to know it exists and would be happy to return. read more

I love The Long Room! This is my neighborhood bar and I like to sit around here regularly. There is a ton of seating, both indoor and outdoor. There are heaters on the patio to use if it's a bit chilly out, as well. All of the bartenders are great! I've never had a bad drink here. The vibe is very chill and to be honest the decor and lighting gives me Bioshock vibes , but in a good way! Oh the best part is that there are regular pop up food offerings from the kitchen here. This place is so awesome on so many levels. Great beers, cocktails and they have splits of sparkling. I had a birthday celebration here March 2017 and the management team and staff were awesome. They reserved the back space for me, had reserved signs on tables and even got in full bottles of sparkling wine for me as that is my drink. The bar itself has a nice chill vibe. The bartenders and the chefs working the kitchen are friendly and personable. The food is down to earth goodness. There are two different chefs preparing the food. Breakfast, Lunch, Brunch and Sunday dinner are covered by Biscuit Man. Great homemade biscuit sandwiches and baked goods for breakfast and rolled sandwiches and rice bowls for lunch. They use locally sourced meats, cheeses and homemade pickles and sauces. And you can order this on Grubhub and Uber Eats. Beard & Belly covers dinner and late night service, specializing in great comfort food. Win for me are the Spicy Pickled Eggs. I love pickled anything and to find eggs in a bar is heaven. Goes great with beer or champagne. You have to walk up to the counter to order food at "The Side Car". You place your order there; payment is separate from the bar tab. Once you order your food, they will send a text you to your phone to let you know to pick it up. We ate at the bar and since we were sitting by the walk up, the chef just called our name. They do a mean chili and you can get it three ways: 'Lunch lady" style (fresh ground beef, kidney beans, sour cream, cheese, chives), Mac & Cheese (Campanelle, curd cheese sauce, seasoned breadcrumbs) and Chili-Mac (the love child of Lunch Lady and Mac). The sandwich of choice for me was the Poutinewich. It is a short rib sandwich served on four mini slider buns with fries, short rib gravy, curd cheese sauce, onion jam, and arugula. The onion jam adds a little sweetness to the sandwich. Order a side of fries because they are good and the fries on the sandwich, while great, ain't enough. There are other tasty looking sandwiches on the menu that I will need to try. Sometimes life gets in the way, but I have to make a commitment to put this place on rotation as one to stop into on a more regular basis. Another thing to note is that they have a great patio...very cute and cozy. For my party, the weather was somewhat ok, so the smokers were hanging out there. I could see that the space has great potential when the weather is warmer, so looking forward to hang out. read more

Popped in on a Saturday night after a long drive in from Detroit. My friend lives in the neighborhood and unwinding with a drink (and a bite from the delicious Biscuit Man that has a location inside of Long Room) was a very welcome way to start my trip. It wasn't terribly crowded for a Saturday night which was ideal since I was also exhausted and not into the idea of a packed bar. They have a great beer list and delicious cocktails. Bartenders were awesome and the vibe was low key and comfortable. Lots of booths and bar seating for whatever you're in the mood for. Really love this bar/coffee shop. I've been a couple times now. I usually work from there in the early afternoon. You walk in and they have the long bar, and then tables and a fairly intimate back room with more tables (plus an outdoor porch with a lot of space). I've gotten the chai tea latte while working, and it's excellent. Wifi is great. Once I switched off from work recently, I ordered a beer at the bar and Johnny's pizza! Layout: the interior is a little funky. On the right side, the bar is at the front and the coffee section is at the back. To order food you have to go to the left. It's kind of weird, but nothing too awful. Patio: AMAZING! Lots of seating, and plenty of shaded and sunny areas so you can choose whatever you like. Beautiful flowers and lights. Coffee: the special of the day is on the chalkboard. If you choose to sit there and enjoy it, it's $0.25 off, which is nice! I ordered the Iced Vanilla Matcha Latte and it was FABULOUS. It was a pretty big glass and wasn't overly sweet at all. I wish it was on their menu daily because I would order it often. I definitely would recommend the coffee portion, and would love to come back and try some food!
