Really delicious breakfast spot! Authentic classic Venezuelan arepas (taste tested by my Venezuelan friend!) and fresh takes too. I got the Santa Monica and really enjoyed it, very tasty and filling! This is a small place where you walk up to the counter and order of the menu posted on the wall. They've got tea/coffee/refrigerated drinks too. Not too much space to sit but there are a few tables inside and the arepas and drinks came out steaming hot and pretty quick! We wanted to try something new in the area and haven't had arepas in a long time so we figured WHY NOT! 11 degrees north is the perfect place to go for a variety of arepas. The menu was huge! I was overwhelmed but settled on the Pabellon. It was perfect. Exactly what I was craving and if you're a cheesehead, the amount they put on here is crazy! Both our arepas were made fresh to order and came out nice and hot. The beef was flavorful, not too overcooked and perfectly juicy (careful for the drip out the bottom). We also ordered the Caribbean coffee and the tropical smoothie. Both were good! The coconut milk gave it a wonderful flavor. Definitely different and if you're not a fan of coconut flavors, you will not like this. One caveat for me is I do wish they would serve the arepa on a small plate. I love how they stuff the arepas, but it can get messy and it's hard to catch everything that falls out in the small holder that it comes in. Came back for round 2 with my fiance and boy was he delighted. He ordered a breakfast arepa. After telling me how much he loves the food between bites he also made sure to tell me how much he looooves me and how good my recommendations are. I had to go for round 2 on the cheesie sandwich. After extensive breakfast sandwich research in the north side of Chicago, I can confidently say this is my favorite one. From my first bite to my last all I can think is "oh my god this is the best thing I've ever eaten". Demolished in 10 bites. And so satisfied. Solid arepa and smoothie here! The space can get crowded on the weekends, so I usually get my order as takeout since it's a pit stop for my plans in the area. The menu is packed with options, so there's something for everyone including vegetarians. I prefer the beef over pork. read more

All I can say is what a gem this place is! We'd been eating breakfast at a bagel place close to our hotel... every morning. The place is close and the food is good, but when I saw 11 Degrees North just a short walk the other way I knew we had to go. The space is small, but comfortable. Menus cover the walls and are readily available in yelp pictures. They also have a website with all breakfast and drink options listed with all details. We were the first ones in the door after they opened. After being greeted with a smile, we ordered coffee while we reviewed the menu. So many options! We opted for the Havana and Santa Monica arepas. As we were enjoying our coffee, our food was brought from the kitchen and they let us know to come pick it up. These sandwiches were huge and hot and so delicious. The way my Santa Monica was filled provided different tastes from the top to the bottom. Cheese, egg and bacon were the immediate stars. The sausage was large enough to make it nearly to the bottom of the arepa. The chive cream cheese was more towards the bottom, so that flavor kicked in a little later. The last couple of bites were mostly arepa, which was great. The corn flavor was very fresh. With so many options, 11 Degrees North will be our breakfast go to for the next couple of mornings before we head home. read more

Curiosity draws me to 11 Degrees North. It looks intimate. 11 Degrees North reminds me of a cafe that I would find in a small town or it would make a perfect backdrop for a film. Joseph uses Ritual, a food app to order for me lunch. Seeing that I follow a vegetarian diet, he orders the vegetarian bowl. This comes with sliced avocados, sliced mushrooms, tomatoes, and lettuce on top of a bed or rice. It tastes heavenly. When I go to pick up my order, the wait staff gives it to me quickly. Ordered a caribbean coffee. The creme of coconut and caramel is a mixed syrup, so you can't get less of one, and I prefer the real thing. But this place has the best pricing out of a lot of other cafes which is a win for a go to coffee place. After passing this place for years we decided to check it out. Tucked between N Halsted and N Clark is an amazing little Venezuelan Arepa shop with great coffee. We stopped by around 10:30am just as the morning crowd was easing up and ordered the Havana, Island Pork, and La Pelua arepa. Honestly they are all so flavorful and filling you probably just need one per person, but each has a unique flavor. The staff was friendly and didn't rush us as we were browsing the menu. The pork is tender and flavorful while the arepa itself is gluten free but compliments the filling well. We also ordered the Caribbean Iced Coffee and the Dulce de Leche Latte. The Caribbean has coconut and coconut flavoring that you would think would be overpowering but actually isn't and adds a fun twist. The place itself only had about 6 tables and the food comes out in these little metal holders. The only issue we ran into was the table was a little sticky from a prior patron so we covered it with napkins while we ate. read more

11 Degrees North proved to be a very interesting spot in Lakeview! I loved the variety of flavors they had for coffee. I had a hot nutella latte and found it was also the most affordable one around, plus delicious. Not a coffee drinker? They also have a huge menu of smoothies - yum! For food I got the Santa Monica Arepa, with eggs, cheddar cheese, chive cream cheese, sausage, AND bacon. YUM! It was really tasty and a perfect size. They also offer bagel sandwiches, biscuit sandwiches, and tons of more lunch-y arepas. Plus, smoothie bowls! Honestly a ton of variety which was great. The girl working was also SO sweet and really great! The environment, while cute, intimate, and in a good location right on Belmont just E of Clark, wasn't the tidiest or cleanest. The tables were all crooked and just didn't contribute to a good feeling in the place. They also felt/looked dirty. After I wiped my table down I noticed someone nearby was also wiping theirs down, too. Maybe just how they looked? Before today I only got smoothies at 11 degrees north. Probably some of the best in the area for the price and ingredients. The employees are always pleasant and it's pretty quick to place an order, check out, and recieve your order. It's a small little place but there is definitely plenty of seating for you to sit by yourself or grab a bite with a friend or two. If you drive to this location note that it is in a busy location and parking can be scarce depending on the day. I believe it's family owned and they are friendly. Arepas are an incredible food but not enough people are talking about them. 11 Degrees North has a lot of delicious options and I believe they're all gluten free. They're not really set up for sitting at the restaurant due to limited space but you can easily grab your food to go. I'd highly recommend everyone give it a try. read more

I got the La Pelua which had shredded beef, plaintains, and Gouda cheese. It took quite a few minutes for the food to be ready (and each order one at a time) which is a sign of freshness in my book. I loved the texture of the arepa! They have a great menu of gluten free arepas, biscuit sandwiches, and even açaí bowls and smoothies. I was impressed with the variety of options! I got the arepa with Venezuelan styled scrambled eggs bacon and Caribbean cheese! My friend is 100% gluten free so it was great to find a small cafe with all gluten free options! I can't say enough good things about this place. In terms of atmosphere, it's a very straightforward shop, a few tables, a service counter, and the menu on the wall behind the counter. Nothing amazing, but comfortable and welcoming with seats against the windows for people watching. It's worth noting they don't have a public bathroom, but the Target on the corner of Clark & Belmont does. The folks who work here have always been friendly, and for food made fresh it's remarkably fast. Okay, on to the food - at this point I've probably had every Arepa on the menu that doesn't have pork in it, and they have all been excellent. You get an absolutely overstuffed arepa and get to choose between eating it over the little holder or having some of the filling with a fork to make it a little more manageable before you tackle it. The ingredients are always high quality, and everything comes out VERY hot from being made fresh to order. I've had their bagel sandwiches as well and they are delicious, but if you're coming here and not getting the BEST AREPAS in Chicago then you are out of your mind. As far as beverages, I've tried a good number of the coffee drinks and their chai latte and they were all good. They use interesting combinations and definitely provide something a little different compared to other coffee spots in the city. If I lived nearby I'd probably make their coffee part of a normal ritual because it's very well executed. In terms of price - food is inexpensive for what you get - less than $15 for most items on the menu. Coffee is a little pricier, but considering the unique options I think it's well worth the price. This place is worth going out of your way for, and just 3-4 blocks West of the park, or a block and a half East of the Brown/Red line stop. Do yourself a favor and give it a try, it's a favorite stop in the city. read more
