Had a really good time here with a friend the day after Thanksgiving as they had Bourbon County Stout on tap here. We drank BCS 2014, Prop 2017 and some other delicious Goose Island BCS brews! People behind the bar took good care of us. We also decided to go out on their back patio to enjoy the 50 degree November weather and smoked a couple of cigars. Came back in and drank some more BCS which can be crazy as the alcohol content can be pretty high. Worked up an appetite in the process so I was introduced to Beard & Belly which handles the dinner menu here. A few feet away from the bar is an ordering station where the kitchen resides and you put in your order and take a number. I ordered the Belly Burger which includes onion jam, pickles, a special sauce and roasted serrano. This was a very good burger and the fries were addictive. As I mentioned, I had a great time here and didn't even know the place existed beforehand. I noticed a lot of established couples, first dates and groups of friends enjoying themselves here. This review is solely for The Biscuit man and the delicious food it continually puts out! I can easily say with confidence that the fried chicken nuggets are some of the best I've ever had. You can order these a la carte with fries, or on top of the Big AF Salad (yes, that is the actual name of the salad on their menu). It lives up to it's name and is super yummy with contrasting textures and bold flavors. Their version of ranch is also really really yummy. Dunk a chicken nugget in there! I am taking away one star because though the food is delicious, it's a tad overpriced. I also have had their breakfast biscuits and those are really good too, but a very filling wya to start a morning. The biscuit is buttery and soft, while the egg is perfectly seasoned with bacon on top. Lastly, their cookies that are on the counter are homemade and soft. Grab one for a desert. What a cute little date place! The mood is casual, yet also slightly classy--kind of a sophisticated dive bar. Instead of a normal dive bar that usually has a pretty typical beer selection, The Long Room features really unique craft beer that will excite any beer snob (believe me, I date one and he was really impressed with the selection--they even had Bourbon County Stout Barleywine on draft) and a solid number of classic cocktails. Cocktails are around $10 each and my Alpha King (helloooo there) was only $6 a pint. Walk towards the back of the bar and you'll find some cozy booths and, just to the left, a corner window to their small restaurant offshoot, Sidecar at The Long Room. We had seen an article naming their 'The Burger' one of the top new burgers in Chicago and it didn't disappoint! I also loved the sides of ranch and spicy roumoulade sauce that you can get with your fries. We ate dinner at the little kitchen off the side of the Long Room. It was a complete delight. The man that runs the kitchen on Sunday nights takes immense pride in his food and his customers. We ordered: fried chicken tacos, veggie taco, fries, rice, chips/salsa, and the buffalo chicken torta. It was all very fresh and tasty. Highlights included the house-made hard shells and tortilla chips, the hour-old salsa, and the in-house brined and fried chicken. To boot, the man came out and checked on us repeatedly, despite being a walk-up food counter. He also fetched us condiments (the fries were too good for condiments!). You know me. I don't want no teeny-weeny, shrivel-wivel, short, short bar. I like 'em loooong. Cornucopia of craft beer and then some. Literally, about 5 pages straight of quality ales + lagers AND they boast one hell of a patio. They no longer have patron parking, but luckily it's still one of the few places in the city where parking isn't a total bitch. The crowd is young-ish. Long Room has been upping the game in North Center for over ten years! And it's good to see it hasn't really changed. Got there early on a fun Saturday night and a few couples and regulars were there, then by 11pm it got really packed! But in a good way. This place has a great beer and wine list, friendly quick bar service, and is good for dates, friends or groups! Whoever was manning the music had my ear, and it wasn't so loud you couldn't talk to the person across from you comfortably, which is big in my book. I'm a huge fan of a good beer list, and was sampling from their 12 Beers of Christmas all night. Bell's, Great Lakes- what is not to love? I fell in lust with this place when I saw their draft beer list. The menu blurbs usually describe the beer, but under one of my favorites, Left Hand Milk Stout, is written: "I recently had this one off the tap for a short time. I was booed by patron and staff alike. I hope never to allow this to happen again." Indeed. I fell in love when I heard "The Horizon is a Beltway" by The Low Anthem on their sound system. Even though I didn't recognize any of the other twenty songs played that night. That's kind of typical. This place is dark and mysterious. High IQ and low pretension, but totally cool by way of not trying to be cool. This will be like one of those high school crushes. I'm sure that it doesn't even know that I exist. There's no chance in hell that it will ever requite my infatuation. I'll have to steal a moment here and there, peeking around hallway corners as it stands at its locker laughing with its friends. This narrow building has very long bar and not to mention a long list of beers (the most admirable attribute in my opinion). You get more bang for our buck here, support some local brewers, and kiss that five-dollar Bud Light goodbye! I stopped in on a Thursday ($4 Select Micro Draft Special) with a friend for a couple drinks. Very inviting atmosphere, well versed and accommodating bar tenders, and close to my hood...why haven't I been back here yet? Well that is beside the point. I take kindly to IPA's and when I have numerous options choose from you've already hooked me in. A couple (or hand full) of those delicious beers will leave you satisfied walking out the door and you might just forget how you actually got home (was it the train or a cab?). The Long Room. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. First I love that you have a lengthy beer list that looks like it was custom made for me. All of my favorites are on it from Trumen Pils, to Delirium to Spaten. I like that you have craft brews from around North America as well as some seasonal varieties of those beers. For you non beer drinkers- they also have a pretty decent wine list. I love your friendly bartender and low key ambiance. I especially like that this is the kind of dim lighting that we all look great in and I love the old style mirror behind the bar that lets you look at the entire bar in one glance. I love that this is one of the longest bars I've sat at in awhile (thus the name) and I love that people are just there to meet up with friends and have a drink. Long Room- you had me at "hello" and then I saw that you had your own off street parking lot just west of the building and I fell in love all over again. Is it possible to have an affair with a bar? I was lured into this bar with promises of a vintage photobooth, only to find that they have a digital booth and not chemical. No matter, because the entire back room being covered in photobooth wallpaper more than made up for it. I'll stick to Smartbar or Rainbo for my dip and dunk photobooth needs and come here for the sidecars, which were delicious. I came here with some friends on a busy Saturday night but we were able to find seating relatively easily. I had eaten beforehand so I stuck to the liquor, but the few fries I picked off my friend's plate were great. I'll definitely be back (and hopefully when it's warmer outside so I can check out the back patio!) Went to The Longroom this morning to grab coffee. It was great! I have been meaning to check it out. We sat on the patio even though it was a bit chilly. The chairs aren't super comfy but they have wifi and if you sit near the mural there are plugs in case you have your laptop and are working/studying. Their coffee menu isn't too extensive, but they have the basics and that's fine by me. We didn't order any food or pastries but a few people near us ordered food and they looked satisfied. The service is good and the inside is clean. The patio could have used a bit of a clean up. But overall the experience was good. I looked at their cocktail menu and it pretty enticing. A characterful neighborhood bar on the border of Lakeview and Ravenswood. A narrow room, but long indeed; the bar alone extends some 60 feet. Attractive wooden Art Deco backbar. Additional table seating and an outdoor patio at the back, and an old-fashioned photo booth, though modernized with electronic technology. On an early a Thursday afternoon, thinly populated with mostly youngish locals. No food service of their own, but there's an opening in the side wall through which food, billed separately, can be ordered from the kitchen of the adjacent Biscuit Man. I had an excellent biscuit with bacon gravy; other biscuit variations and salads are available. Full bar service, with a very professional and personable bartender. My interest, however, centered on their impressive beer list: 18 drafts (two out), mostly local, plus 64 bottles and cans, mostly craft. Not much beer-geek ambience; the only breweriana visible was four huge logo goblets on an upper shelf. I tried: - 5 Rabbit Cacao Spiced Imperial Stout. 10.7% ABV. Dark, near-opaque brown; tan halo head, lacing the glass. Weak, indistinct nose, but the taste is anything but. Bittersweet chocolate; modest sting from two kinds of chiles; vanilla; cinnamon. Also said to contain toasted pumpkin seed, but I couldn't pick that out. The high ABV is not apparent in the taste; it could sneak up on you. - Perennial Sump Imperial Coffee Stout. 10.5%. Opaque near-black, fast-fading light tan head. Low carbonation. Aroma and taste are dominated by the coffee, to the extent of overwhelming any beery character. Also a bittersweet chocolate note. Sticky and mouth-filling texture. Again, ethanol is not very apparent in the taste. Two blocks from the Irving Park station of the CTA Brown Line. On the 80-Irving Park and 9-Ashland bus lines. For pub-crawlers, a bit over a half mile east of Laschet's Inn and Resi's Bierstube on Irving west of Damen. I love this place! Their drink menu is huge and the food is amazing, but the staff is what really makes this place great. I used to come in with friends sometimes before the pandemic hit. When I came back almost a year and a half later in 2021, the bartender remembered me and my friend by name, even after I had cut off all my hair and dyed it blonde lol. It was very wholesome. How have I never reviewed this fine establishment?! I live across the street and was there on March 14th, 2020 and will be there when they reopen to customers July 9, 2021. They've been a craft beer (and now biscuit) staple in the NW Lakeview area for years, but let's not forget the cocktails. I can only review The Long Room from a daytime/coffeehouse atmosphere standpoint, but I'm sure it would be awesome during the evening as well! I love the way the place is set up, and the back patio is perfect! I grabbed a coffee, the Big AF salad with grilled chicken, and camped out in a comfortable booth for a few hours. The staff is nice, there's plenty of space to spread out and do your work. I like that it's sit-down restaurant-grade food but with a counter as opposed to a server so you're able to more comfortably work and stay longer. I didn't get any biscuits from the biscuit man, but they look INCREDIBLE. I love how they serve them in the evening too, I think that'd be the perfect drunk eat! read more

Now that I've eaten at both Sidecar restaurants, I wanted to come back to update my review. Tried Biscuit Man for lunch last week. Three stars. $8 for an egg, bacon and cheese biscuit didn't quite feel right and the size is a little small-ish. I needed to add an order of the admittedly-tasty coffee cake to leave the place sorta full. The biscuit was tasty but not mind-blowing; the innards like the eggs and cheese were also just OK. Grabbed a Schlitz at the bar for $4...but then the gods smiled on me, since a Schlitz rep was at the bar when I ordered, so I got the beer for free. That saved what would have been a $14 BEFORE tax and tip lunch where I definitely left hungry. When averaged out with the Beard & Belly dinner I had a few months ago, I land in the four-star category, but I won't be back for lunch. However, my other colleagues had the rice bowls and seemed to be happy with the food, even if the price point for the value proposition was too high. read more

I've been a big fan of The Long Room since I moved to Chicago. It's a great bar to stop in for one beer or a ton- their beer selection is great, the staff is friendly and they always have good music playing. Recently, I've become an even bigger fan of The Long Room because of the addition of food both in the morning and evening. I'll stop in for a cup of coffee on the way to work and if I have more time, will treat myself to one of the Biscuit Man's delicious biscuits (with marmalade jam- don't even bother with any others!) The Long Room was a pleasant surprise. A place I would normally walk right past. When I walked inside, this didnt spell out a burger place, just an old style bar. You order at a hidden counter halfwy down the bar, to the left. The gentleman, or chef, behind the counter took our order. Initially I felt like he wasnt the type of guy you ask what they recommend (My boyfriend does it all the time and makes my eyes roll lol). He was brutally honest. I ordered The Burger, two quarter pound patties with awesome sauce and pickles. I'm typically a fan of traditional, ketchup/mustard/lettuce/onion, but decided to venture out a little. They tie your phone number to your ticket so you receive a text once your order is complete. We got a drink at the bar, and approached the back where there are large modern comfy booths, and an outdoor patio. A lot of seating. The food was complete within the window of time we were told, and the burger was flawless. The awesome sauce and pickle worked well together. I didnt taste a lot of pickle and the awesome sauce was not overpowering. Hell, the patties were cooked to my liking - pink in the center and juicy! The fries were thin and overdone, but the burger was just enough for the meal. All in all, it's a great stop for the burger and a beer for $20, no need to order fries. The burger is all you need! This place *might* win my heart...best bar in the city? The world? It's truly, and convincingly possible. Allagash on draught (oh, thank you PDX) + a vintage photobooth = most of my bar-like dreams come true. Frothy "black 'n white" smiles are utter perfection. The music is never intrusive, nor are the patrons/staff (excludes Fridays/Saturdays). People have discovered the charms of this place, I recommend a weekday, if possible. A long list of reasons that I love the Long Room: 1. Holy beer selection, Batman! Usually 10-15 good drafts and 75 or so awesome bottles. And it changes! 2. Truth in advertising - this is one loooooooong room. 3. On Saturday nights, both the real tamale guy and the impostor are guaranteed to show up. (Confession: I like the impostor's cheese tamales better than Claudio's.) 4. The bartenders are super-nice. (And one of them thought my friend was cute! If he calls her I'll bump it up a star.) 5. Lakecenternorthview is all growned up! This area, when I lived here about a decade ago, used to be nothing but Lakeview High School, the Popeye's, and Diner Grill (which closed down for health violations at one point when I lived near it). Now it's a cosmopolitan mishmash of everything restaurant-wise. But while this area has put on its big kid neighborhood pants, one thing has remained constant - The Long Room. This place is an institution. In fact, it's so much of one that no one I've talked to can remember exactly when it opened. This confusion has led some people to conclude it's just always been there and made for a cottage industry of "Tall Tales About The Long Room." Here are some of my favorites: - Al Capone used to conduct business on its beer garden. Here's a little known fact: Alfonse was a sucker for the Long Room's $1 Pabst Blue Ribbon special. Except, you know, back in his day it was .01 cent PBR. He liked the anonymity the spacious wooden patio provided. - The (now antique) photo booth was once used by Marilyn Monroe to take saucy pictures with Richard J. Daley. These, unfortunately, are not featured on the wall of regular customers that decorates the back room and its soft leather couches. They used to be, but they were stolen by John Cusack on a dare from Jeremy Piven. - The serving bar is so long (how the place gets its name) that Cubs batters mistakenly aim for it thinking that it's an extra wall at Wrigley Field worth double the home run points (yeah, I stopped following baseball a while ago and have forgotten its rules). - There is so much seating that during the Great Chicago Fire, it was used as a refuge for those with a taste for "the devil's mead" and their extended families to pass the time while their homes were being reconstructed. - So many Belgian beers are served, that a small portion of the aforementioned bar is occupied by the "office" of a "cultural attache" from the Belgian embassy. At least that's his cover story (SPY!). The truth about Long Bar is this: it's just an incredible bar. The music tends toward alternative from the 1980s and 1990s (there was a lot of The Smiths). The crowd is laid back. Plus, it's a popular hangout for people who work at the Threadless warehouse - if you want to get in good with them and get free shirts and such. The beer is cold and the service quick. And it really is a staple of the neighborhood. No matter how long it's been there (ten billion years or so). read more

I know I should have written this a few months back when I stopped in for the coolest person in the world Vanessa M's B-day party but it's ok because in Yelp Land it's like it was yesterday. I understand where they got their name with how long their bar is but it could have also been called "The Kick Ass Room" because this place kick's ass! I mean come on, a place that Queen Colleen, Andy, Michelle, The Mick's, and a few others give five stars how could you go wrong?! All the cool kids are hanging out here. Besides the long bar it has a few nooks to chill in. This guys here (points to self even while typing this) is a big fan of the nooks! Plus the patio rocks as well. The only thing I would wish for is a better bartender or maybe even two so so ones. It took way to long to get a drink she just didn't pay attention and she moved very slowly. I'm all about a new bar experience. My friend Julie suggested a Friday night outing here and I was game. Only time would tell what The Long Room had in store that fateful Saturday night (don. . don. . .donnnn! . ) Well, they weren't messing around when they named this guy "The Long Room". It's a LONG bar. Skinny actually, kind of like a train car. There is ample room in the back for gathering but due to a reserved private party, we were confined to the longest, skinniest part of the bar. Per usual, I asked the bartender for the specials. $5 Manhattans. I think my Dad drinks those?? I got one (cheers, Dad!) and it was STRONG. Holy crappers. It definitely took me a while to suck that back! I liked the scene here. A nice mix of regulars and irregulars. The tamale guy even made an appearance (but he was there around 10PM! Must be early on his rotation) The photo booth was an adventure even though my melon took up most of the pics. I've had a few trips to the Long Room, and none have left me disappointed. One was after an amazing non-date*, and the latest was with my lovely girlfriends, on a mission to continue our fun and fantastic evening out. (According to our cabbie, it was the first of ten bars we would visit that night.) Great selection of beers, which is much appreciated. I realize that I just wrote a review singing the praises of the $2.50 Miller Lite, but I go both ways. Ugh, I mean with my beer drinking--I like 'em cheap sometimes, and sometimes I like 'em a bit nicer. For what it's worth, LR had a Three Floyds on special for $4 for a pint...not too shabby either. Well, after the Three Floyds, i realized silly me, it's girls night, I should be drinking vodka. Unfortunately, they did not have my beloved blueberi stoli, but I settled for a regular. And know what? At $6 a pop for my fave vodka drink, I was pleasantly surprised.
