Dark Matter Coffee is great - the Agave Latte is by far my favorite compared to their other lattes and mochas that I've tried. It's creamy, sweet but not too sweet, and overall a great flavor profile. It seems like a great place to study or work as well. You can often find many people working diligently (and relatively quietly) so the ambiance is great. I don't often write such low of a review but the one star is for the staff. On most occasions I've only encountered the friendliest of people - in fact the first time I visited and had a hard time choosing a drink, the individual at the register was so kind and helped me make a choice based on what I typically enjoy at other coffee shops. However today I had the absolute WORST experience where the barista was so rude to me after they took my order wrong. All I wanted was the coffee I ordered and calmly explained how there must have been a mix up. In return I was basically shamed multiple times for asking for the right coffee instead of the one they tried to give me and I was just baffled by how passive aggressive the staff member was. My family and I will not be returning to this location again. Go for the coffee and the vibes but just be extra careful to triple check your order is taken correctly at the register. read more

Dark matter is my favorite coffee and I've found the in person experience to be consistent over the past ten years. For one the staff are always super friendly and chill. It's not uncommon for me to see them having actual conversations with costumers at the bar. They look happy and relaxed which I think sets the tone for the overall vibe of the place. The pastries are great. I think the donuts are from do rite. It's also a nice quiet place to work or read. Always a treat to visit. read more

Came in the morning for coffee in this place in Lakeview East on Belmont. It's about all they have. Osmium is a good place to do some working. Has quite a hipster atmosphere. There's cold and hot drinks as well as a few pastries. A place to look at art while having coffee. It's got all these paintings from local artists for sale. This is the second best thing here to spend your money on though. Coffee is the main reason why people come. It's about $4 for the cheapest stuff. Actually not that bad for the area. The Agave Latte is one of the popular specialties. It's made with chocolate and cinnamon. The pastries also looked good, but there were eggs in these. Best place around here for hipster ass coffee. During a recent visit to Chicago, I walked by this coffee shop two mornings in a row and was stopped in my tracks each time by the aromas escaping their front door. On my third morning, I decided to stop in. Several people had already assumed their positions at one of the tables inside, enjoying a bev and free wi-fi, when I was greeted warmly by the team member behind the counter. I decided on a hot chai latte, with oat milk and a shot of espresso. The flavors were so earthy and unrefined, like real coffee and tea should taste! I was also strong armed (not really) into trying a cinnamon old fashioned donut. This was a bonus because the donuts are brought in from Do-Rite Donuts and Chicken which was another establishment I was wanting to try while in town. The donut was nicely sized, moist and flavorful...all the things you want a donut to be! Osmium Coffee Bar is suchhhhhh a vibe. I really like how this place has art all over their walls. When ordering a latte they also have art in those too =) It's a fun spot to grab a drink and hang out for a bit. I was here with a large group for a mid day caffeine treat and service was quick. It took about 10 mins for all of our orders to be prepared. Drinks are strong and delicious. They also have drinks that have a big spicy kick to em. This was a first time for me and I appreciated how unique their drinks are. They also have the classics, drip coffee, regular lattes, etc. There is plenty of seating, can fit about 40-50 people comfortably. Tables and seating at the coffee bar. Such a delightful unique coffee shop. Good vibes inside. They have some of the most unique specialty latte combinations I've seen. I'm still dreaming about Dolor De Oro, it is the perfect winter drink, the perfect swicy hug with a delicious balance between the sweetness of the chocolate and the spice of the cinnamon and habenero. Good things are worth waiting for, expect longer waits than say Starbucks. My barrista made a lovely design on my latte, will be back! read more

First and foremost, I cannot stress how much I LOVE the coffee here. It's strong, bold, and flavorful. Every coffee and espresso-based beverage has a rich flavor that tastes like something you just can't get from a machine at home. I also love that this is a rare space where you can work and *vibe*. Cute and cozy coffee in Lakeview. Osmium is part of the Dark Matter family, so off the bat you know you're going to get some delicious coffee. The walls are painted with cool, intricate designs that are really inviting and funky! I like that there's a decent sized bar area you can sit at and watch the baristas work their magic. The space overall is on the smaller size, but they do a good job optimizing space with lots of tables to work from. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and an everything bagel with cream cheese. They have some food items sourced from some local favorites -- Steingold bagels & Do-Rite donuts, but there's no kitchen, more of snack items to enjoy. There's a toaster at the front for you to toast your own bagel (which I saw after eating mine - lol!). Great place to get some work done if you WFH and need to get out of the house! read more

Decided to revisit Osmium today. Went with the Barrel Aged Mocha, which is barrel Aged espresso with chocolate and vanilla notes. It was great! They have most of all your favorite Dark Matter Coffee drinks at this location. The baristas were friendly and quick with my order. Don't forget to get a punch card or bring your old one to get a free drink in the future. Very chill set up with seats at the bar and tables available to get work done. Parking may get a little tight, but meter parking outside. Definitely worth a visit when in the Lakeview area! read more

I ordered an agave cinnamon oat milk latte (light on agave) and a bfast burrito. The coffee temp was perfect with a hint of agave and spice. Are you visiting or living in Chicago right now and wondering where you should go for coffee? Hop on the L and take the red line to Belmont to check Osmium (Dark Matter) out. We stopped by here after a Cubs game one afternoon, bought a couple of bags of beans, drinks and hung out for a bit before heading back to our hotel. To drink, I ordered an almond milk cortado which was smooth, no bitterness whatsoever and the espresso they were using that day had a hint of sweetness to the bean. I drained it before we even left because it was so good. My husband ordered an iced vanilla almond milk latte which was very good. The coffee was strong and the vanilla wasn't overpowering or too sweet which balanced his drink out nicely. We grabbed a bag of 'Another Side' which we're brewing at home this week. It has notes of cocoa, dried fig and almonds. It's a light to medium roast and goes down easily but leaves an aftertaste I'm not fond of. We also bought a bag of 'A Love Supreme' which is their house blend. That had notes of cocoa, walnuts and toffee. I'm excited to try this one to see if I can taste the walnuts which is one of my favorite notes in a roasted bean. read more

Osium was overall a good experience! Very fun atmosphere. Would definitely come for a cup of coffee with a friend. I came to study, though, and found the music was a little too loud and upbeat. I found myself jamming along to Kesha and Lil Jon more than actually focusing on my work. A little too much for a coffee shop in my opinion, but it did have a fun vibe. The wall art was awesome! Coffee was decent! I got a 16oz vanilla latte and it was tasty. It came in a big glass, rather than a mug which is pretty unique. I'm a little more traditional and prefer a mug, but it fit with the more hipster feeling here. The blueberry donut was recommended by the barista and I really loved it. Great texture, tasted a little like a crumbly coffee cake. Would definitely come back, just maybe under another pretense than needing to study. read more

At Osmium, I was not very impressed by the coffee or the atmosphere inside. I may have just gone on a bad day a few months ago but it was unpleasant. The coffee was very bitter and watery, and that is coming from someone who enjoys a strong coffee. I ordered a latte and somehow the shots, syrup, and milk appeared to separate, it was strangely watery and milky at the same time. The space inside is very small and would probably not be the best for accessibility, as it's very narrow. As an autistic person it was far too loud for me, but I should have just gone outside. Service was average, I understand we all have bad days so I won't judge! I'm hoping I went on a bad day. I might try again just to see if it's any better! read more

Stopped in on a Wednesday late morning to check out the amazing artwork on the walls (think fever dream/LSD induced graffiti vibes), stayed for a nitro cold brew (of four on tap!). The staff is kind, friendly and patient. They have some baked goods- vegan, gluten free too. The music is a bit loud and for some reason the wifi does not have a routable IP v4 physical adapter, so if you're trying to log into a government VPN, it's not going to work, Maybe not a problem in this town, but I'm visiting from DC and am a federal employee. I couldn't use my computer and had to relocate for work. I will be stopping back in later to buy some canned cold brew for home! SO SMOOTH. Agave latte (4*): Tad sweet but the agave lends a unique flavor along with the cinnamon Vanilla suburbs nitro (3*): This is served without ice, but it wasn't as creamy as I would expect of a nitro drink. And I just didn't taste the vanilla in this. But I still rate it as average because the barista gave us some complimentary oat milk to add in and it rounded out the flavor a lot better. I love this place, really I do. The iced lattes and cappuccinos as well as the merch and atmosphere are great. But my only complaint: the WiFi somehow seemingly blocks my school's websites I have to access when I come to study here and I don't know if anyone else has had this problem because I am not tech oriented in the slightest when it comes to these types of issues. I wish they would make it so I didn't have to charge my hotspot and pack it with me and use it instead of simply using the WiFi in the cafe. So I'm a coffee snob. It's what happens when your boyfriend in your early 20's (now husband in your 40's) works at coffee shops. It's my favorites to go to local coffee shops whenever I travel. I have been to many, and yet Dark Matter coffee shops are my fave! Their coffee is just so silky and delicious. I took a friend this visit and after her first sip she squealed accidentally. She ensured me it was a squeal of joy for how absolutely delicious her drink was. I was obsessed with the Agave latte! The vibe at Osmium is funky and vintage. Everyone that works there was so nice. Gave helpful recommendations and began to recognize us by the 2nd day. (We went at least once a day during our week visit.) This is definitely a place I recommend checking out!
