The Look disappointed and ruined our daughter's wedding. We chose the look based on raving reviews about Gina, the owner, who is a noted professional for make-up application.
We booked the bridal party appointments well in advance. We didn't hear from the owner, Gina. After several attempts to contact her, she responded and said we didn't call her.
The wedding was on a Monday afternoon in December 2021. Being in the military, our kids were flying in from Japan to have the wedding here and their leave was a short widow. Gina first told us that she would have to make special arrangements because her salon wasn't open on Mondays. (Keep this comment in mind for later opinion on this review). She also told us that we would have to go to the salon as opposed to her coming to the hotel because the salon had the proper lighting. It was not practical for her to go to the hotel which was walking distance from her salon. Hmmm...She said it was no problem at all though and not to worry about coming to the salon on that Monday. We started off with a party of 14, which she was a bit dismayed about and a little nervous. After reading a couple of the reviews, we decided to split up the party so it wouldn't be so overwhelming for her. The other half went elsewhere. We were now down to six people which seemed more manageable for her.
I had to hound her for communication all along the process. This in itself was so frustrating aside from having to deal with other wedding details. The last thing we wanted to worry about was making the bride and her bridal party look amazing. No? Let's forget about the in-between process and move up to the week of the wedding. A week before, we get an email that if we do not submit the payment for the services, we wouldn't be serviced. Not a problem. Payment was never an issue. By the way, prices were not flexible. It was an all or nothing deal. As an example, my 90 year-old mother only wanted mascara. Nothing else. Still was charged for a full make-up session.
The Saturday before, we were scheduled for haircuts and color/highlights. We arrived 15 minutes prior to our scheduled time and stylists took us right on time. No waiting. Each stylist is independent and has her own fees. My stylist is a color master. I asked her to please use color without amonia because I use natural products. I get my hair colored everysix weeks at Madison Reed. My stylist told me that they don't have anything like that without it being a special order. She thought she may have an extra order in the back. She checked and yes, she had the right color I wanted. I agreed. My hair color turned out great.
Maid-of-Honor had another stylist who did highlights. A disaster. She only did the highlights on the top and her hair on the bottom and underside was dark. Looked awful. She said, "Well, you didn't tell me you wanted some underneath." Oh my! We asked if she could add some more and she said not right now.
Bride had no issues with haircut and highlights.
Back to the make-up on Monday. At 7:15am, I get a phone call from the manager of the salon informing me that she's working on solving her problem...the make-up people scheduled to do our make-up were a no-show. She was going to see if she could call other people to come in on such a short notice. Short notice?!?!? Now, we were frantic. Who wouldn't be? The appointments were for 9:30am. We impatiently and nervously waited for the following calls. Still, no response. At 9:00am we get a confirmation that it's all set. We're good to go. We get to the salon and they're scrambling because there's nobody to do our make-up. The girls haven't shown up.
Despite having all the information prior, as demanded by Gina before finalizing the appointments, the artists had no clue who was getting what make-up and up-dos. We explained the whole situation. There were only three people to help. However, going back to the initial comment about not being open on Monday, there were six other stylists with thier clients and the doors were open. It did not seem that the salon was closed, obviously. The color master who colored my hair also styled my hair. She apologized because she was asked to do this and she's not a bridal party stylist. No up-dos. She does color, specifically. She was called in on her day off to do this.
The same story with the other stylists. The bride, was styled by someone who came from another salon. After the styling, which was so awful, she came up to me for payment. I told her that I had already submitted a credit card per the requirement from the owner. She said, "Oh but I am not from this salon. I was called in to do this job and I need to be paid."
Long story short, we ended up leaving there and having to have our make-up redone. Attempted to contact Gina and she never replied. I waited to write this review to let the emotions subside but...they're still surfacing. $2K later. It was a waste of money. Do not go there. Obviously, I would not recommend. read more
