He also gave me some very crucial advice: Doc Martins actually don't last that long! He suggested instead getting Chuck Taylor Converse for the purposes I was using them for (particularly convincing was the fact that he himself was wearing a pair, and one that he'd had for over thirty years), and as soon as I get some surplus cash, I intend to do exactly that!
