I just visited this store and bought a replacement charging cord for my phone. I showed the incompetent clerk the box and my phone. he sold me the cord for $35. I get back to my shop and the cord does not fit my phone. I go to return it and he refused to take it back because it was open. He then kicked me out of the store and threatened to call the police because I argued with him. Horrible! read more

Do not take a mac to be looked at or buy anything from this store. They lie and tell you there is something wrong with your computer then convince you to buy a new one. I was told my computers SSD drive was going out and that the computer was going to go out. They mentioned that it seemed like there had been some moisture damage. I was taken aback because my laptop has never left my office and there was never any water or other beverages around my laptop. They convinced me I needed a new one. My daughter took my old one and said it seemed fine and took it to best buy to get a second opinion. At Best Buy they have the apple diagnostic tools and are certified to do so. I found out that Mac Ranch isn't. There was no indication of moisture damage and absolutely nothing came up wrong. Mac Ranch has yet to be able to explain how they diagnosed my computer. They are not allowed to open then computer or it will void any type of warranty you might have with Apple. So I am still unsure how they figured it out. If they could explain it I probably wouldn't have written this review. When I bought the laptop I was under the impression I had a return window. This is not the case they will not return the laptop. The guy Jon was not polite had an awful attitude and never received a call back from the manager. The customer service is poor as well. I will not be a returning customer any more. read more

We drive up from Aztec, NM about 45 min and left an older IPhone to be worked on. They said it would be quick and ready to go the next day. We could not get back up there until a week later and they had not even looked at it. I tried to call before driving back up but no answer on several occasions. And they never called with any updates. Oh sure they apologized said it would only take 5 min then came back out and said 20 min and it was 15 mins from 5:00 when they close. Hummmmm so we left and came back and they said the mother board was fried. I am going to take it to the Mac store in Albuquerque tomorrow as I think they just took the phone and did nothing with it. No phone calls with updates nothing and at the very last moment when we where actually in the store they started to scramble around to get it fixed. Bad business, waste of my time. read more

They fixed my computer! I was locked into a login loop and couldn't get into my homepage. Their initial workup in the office didn't work, but they kept it overnight and it was functioning the next day. I ended up having to re-download Microsoft Office and other software afterwards, which was unexpected. Expensive, but I can't function professionally or personally without my computer so if it was a $100+ so be it. Friendly staff. read more

I had been trying desperately for days to transfer data from one phone to another. I had made two trips to Farmington and spent hours with Apple tech support when it was suggested to take my phones into The Mac Ranch. I left the phones overnight and they spent hours trying to transfer the data with no success. John explained to me that my old phone had a damaged hard drive which made it impossible. He then sat down with me and helped me set up my new phone. He had quoted me $150 for the job but since they were unable to complete the task and even after all the time his team had spent trying to do so he said there was no charge. Blatantly tried to rip my wife off by selling her a $350 for $750 not including the data transfer! While my wife my not be a computer expert, she's NOT stupid! As soon as she got home she began to realize that what they sold her was NOT what they claimed! After some 'detective work' on the internet it quickly became apparent that they had sold her a much cheaper laptop than what they had claimed! Since they bought the other mac stores in town to run some kind of monopoly in town you don't have any choice but to go here. That's business I understand, it only bothers me bacause apparently while learning oh so much about computers they didn't learn a single thing about being a decent human. My mother had to go there with some computer issue. They were sort of pleasent but completely passive ignoring her and talking over her like she was stupid. Making her feel stupid like it was their job. Let me just pause again to say this was MY MOTHER obviously their elder and A LADY which I learned (when was that hmmm 1st grade I think?) Your supposed to treat women with respect! She then paid and as soon as they took her money they wouldnt even respond, she was trying to talk to them still and they completely ignored her. I get that service jobs are thankless and customer service can be trying but my mother is kind and sweet and I watched her be nothing but kind and sweet while these sorry exscuses for men ignored her. These people saved my bacon! I walked in with an iPhone that would not contact my network which made it almost useless. The guys behind the counter solved my problem in about one minute by resetting the network settings. Who knew the network settings would get screwed up but their fix solved my problem and I will be eternally grateful. Check them out,they are good! read more

Very impressed with this shop. My phone refused to turn on for the last 4 days. Did all the basic checks on it and could get it going. Went in to Mac ranch and was met with very friend staff who opened the doors early for me no less. They took my phone and said come back in 40. I did so and phone works perfectly. Every time I have ever walked into this store, they have ripped me off. They do not honor apple's warranty repairs and always try to charge you even if they say they can run free tests. I have been ripped off by these people 4 times now. Never shop there unless you want to be ripped off. read more

My 10 year old mac book pro was not loading photos from my iphone. In a matter of less than 15 minutes Kevin had the mac book loading pictures as it did before. Very professional and knowledgeable. The charge was very reasonable. I also had the speakers of my mac book replaced a few weeks earlier and they work perfectly and also for a very reasonable price (both labor and parts). I will be using the Mac Ranch for anything else that pops up. Nice to know there are professionals willing to make things work. read more

Below is my initial review of The Mac Ranch on Main Street in Durango, Colorado. It has been several months since reviewing the Mac Ranch and if I could afford a new computer, I could not be updating my review. The more I try to use my MacBook Pro the more annoyed I get and any more, I avoid the computer -- knowing my blood pressure will rise. They claimed I had 27 viruses but the computer worked fine. I wish I never took my computer in for it has not worked correctly since and is getting worse and worse. It's been nine-months since they worked on it but I have not downloaded anything and the computer won't work on battery at all and is acting slower and worse daily. These are really tough times and trying to purchase another computer will strap my finances more then I can imagine. If your computer is more than four years old I would seriously suggest you buy new and avoid having these hacks work on your computer. I can get the last model of MacBook Air for about $750 and for what I spent at the Mac Ranch, it would have differed that cost, $300. So now I've had, approaching a year of limited and frustrating usage, I have concluded that I have to have a new computer. Words alone cannot express my unhappiness with this place. Amazon.com I'm Done This isn't my first review of this hack of a store and it's not going to be my last because they ruined my MacBook Pro and if I could give them a star minus, I would. I took my computer in as a mere precaution because my internet was hacked and although there was no evidence that my actual computer was hacked, I wanted it wiped clean and reloaded. I was told that I had [27 viruses] which I find hard to believe because my computer at least worked. My Microsoft Office was wiped out because my 12 month subscription had expired and had they not worked on it - it would have probably still worked but no I had to reload Microsoft Office for Mac. Now my computer isn't worth excrement and first wouldn't charge and now the battery never fully charges and will not work at all if it gets unplugged and I'm one of these people that if I have a thought, I grab my computer and look up whatever I need to know and learn what I need or want to learn. I'll still use my computer at my desk because I can't unplug or move it without a 5-10 minute aggravated wait time . I spent hundreds of dollars for this hack-shop to "fix" my computer and they instead ruined it and it's changed my quality of life because I've depended on this for my career as an attorney and my design work as a builder. I support both of my brother's whom are dependent on me and I need a reliable computer and so although I can't afford it, I had to buy a newer computer because I use it to support my family. I don't believe I had 27 viruses but I do believe that I took this computer in as a precaution and it worked fine and now it's worse off then it would be on crutches. Mac Ranch ruined my computer and I cannot use it without becoming annoyed not just because I can't effectively do my job and earning a living takes twice as long. I've got last year's MacBook air on order and it'll take another week because I had to select the free shipping option because again, I support my two, disabled brothers and life's a struggle. I'm spending $1,000 on a computer after spending far too much to have these hacks ruin my otherwise perfect computer that worked before the "fixed it." The didn't even telephone me after having it for over a week to let me know it was done probably because it was never, done. Awesome, quality service! I live in Durango and (incorrectly) assumed that any Mac repair shop in town would follow the Durango status quo, and leave me wanting in terms of customer service and quality. I was way off-base. I got immediate, friendly service as soon as I arrived. The technician was very knowledgeable and honest about the repair situation and timeframe (she even guessed the issue correctly before running a diagnostic). She called me several times, as promised, to update me along the way. Clear lines of communication the entire time, no pressure to engage in any extra repairs/up-sells. My computer is now functioning once again, so I won't need their service anytime soon. But if I do? I'm absolutely going back. read more

Well Done Service. My high end Apple computer was going black screen randomly, but often enough that I could not work. Dave Sessions figured out it was the IC board driving the screen backlight. I liked dealing with this company. They took care of me as soon as I came in, did a fast diagnostic on my not-working iMac. Compared to other repair options their price for the hardware is a little more, but not wildly so. I needed a printed quote for insurance purposes and they sent that to me. I'll finish the rating after they do the repair and I see how it goes. . . . And it went great. They finished in less than a day, charged what they said they would and even put in some extra ram I had at no extra charge. When I was leaving, David, one of the owners, offered to write a letter for the insurance claim. And as I was packing up I was laughing at my chewed up cord that one of my kitties bites. he went in the back room and brought out a power cord from their workbench as a nicer looking replacement. Definitely above and beyond for all these reasons. BTW, works perfectly now. Oh, if you get a new hard drive but not a reload of your backup data, make sure you get the password (they didn't tell me what he used and luckily I was able to reach them just before closing). read more

Was hoping to purchase a 2 thousand dollar MacBook Pro from (The Mac Ranch) but was treated poorly. I asked a lot of questions but the sales representative just told me to go online. What's the point of going to a store to support local business if they tell you to go somewhere else? I am a Veteran going to school and was so exited to get a new laptop. We were on a road trip in Southwest Colorado when my car charger died. Being without my phone was not an option, so I did a Google search of merchants who carried Apple products in Durango. Luckily, I came across the Mac Ranch. The gentleman who helped me was knowledgeable and so helpful. He gave me many helpful tips and sold me a new charger that really solved my problem. I just spoke to one of the owner of The Mac Ranch. I needed to replace something on my Mac and spoke to him about the price and labor. I had already priced the item out, but in Albuquerque,which is the closest Apple Retail Store to us here in Durango, Co. He priced me out several hundred dollars more for the part than the Apple Store did in ABQ. I'm all about shopping local and would prefer to not drive 3 hours but when local stores such as The Mac Ranch, is out to rip off the local public,why bother shopping local? This owner had no intention in repairing my computer. He did however try to tell me my computer was not worth repairing but I should buy a brand new computer from him. After he start yelling at me for already pricing this item out elsewhere and accused me of...at this point in the phone conversation, I had to hang up on him right after he started to yell at me.
