HORRIBLE, DO NOT SEND YOUR DOG HERE! With my own two eyes I saw a woman aggressively grab a mid-size dog with her hand by the fur on his neck, drag him, and drop him as he was crying. I complained to the management that was there, and they seemed un-phased. After I waited to see if they were going to 1.) attend to the dog after being assaulted, or 2.) confront the worker, they did neither. Protect your pet. I used them a few times, and when I picked my dog up, he was usually just given a bath. I guess I got there early yesterday to pick him up. I got him in the car, and in the time it took to walk around to the driver's door, my car stunk. My dog had a very strong urine smell to him, which makes me wonder how well they took care of him. read more

This review is way overdue: if your dog gets hurt please note that you will get no communication, no apologies, all excuses!!! I boarded my blue French Bulldog a few times at Waldwick location and every time she came home extremely dirty and smelly (Waldwick location smells horrible!!!). Decided to try HoHoKus location (same owner): first time, no problem. However, second time we boarded her I was in the hospital having a baby. We didn't get any calls from Madison but checked in and she was "all good". When my husband picked up our dog, he noticed she was limping pretty bad. He asked a very young guy who works there what happened and he said "I guess she got hurt somehow, I dunno" then proceeded to ring him up for all charges. No apologies, explanations or compensations!!! I called the location about a week after (home with my first newborn) and asked the owner to call me back as no one knew what had happened. Owner called back the following week and said that the situation "was handled internally". I asked if a vet looked at her paw or what they did "internally" as it was not communicated... he said that they just noticed it and she seemed fine. Again, no apologies or compensation or explanation... only excuses. The explanation I got was this: "if you have an indoor dog with other dogs in places like this, something will happen. It's like if you go to the beach and walk around barefoot on sand with shells, your feet are not use to it". - Ummm WHAT?! It's a Blue French Bulldog - the dog costs $7K. What the hell are you talking about?! In the end, I took her to the vet and it was a cut. We got something to put on the cut and she was limping for the next week (the bill was $170). And of course, owner did not offer any compensation and apologized only after I called him out on it. Again, if you value your dogs health, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG WITH THESE PEOPLE!! read more

I dropped in this afternoon to inquire about doggie day care for my small dog. While I was slightly concerned that there was nobody up front for several minutes, I brushed it off. Eventually, a girl came from the back and I explained that I was there to see the facility and learn more about their doggie day care. While the girl was friendly, I was told that I could not see the facility unless I had an appointment. Their "appointments" are coupled with a pet evaluation and require that I provide all my dog's vaccination information prior to the appointment date. I certainly have no issue providing that information but doing so before seeing if I like the facility and the staff seemed odd to me. Ultimately, I was turned off by the lack of transparency. I want to see the place on a normal day...not when they are expecting guests. Yesterday, when I dropped in at Best Friends in Chestnut Ridge, they gave me a full tour of the facility which included play rooms with glass windows overlooking the front lobby where everyone can look in. The Madison's unwillingness to display what was behind closed doors made my decision very simple. read more

My dog is an old, rather shy fellow.... but walk him into the lobby of The Madison and the tail wags and he gets his swagger back. The employees know him, and his quirks, and take great care of him. The only downside is, since it's an indoor facility, his paws can be kind of yucky when I pick him up.... but it's a small price to pay for a happy old dog at the end of the day. read more

This place is the best. Clean and friendly run by true dog people. I shopped around for a place to board my dog (mini poodle named Tommy) and this was by far the best I saw. I called for an appointment to view the place, I brought my dog for an "interview " and was told all the ins and outs of the place. Nothing from the outside is allowed except for food. I like this because it limits any bad stuff your dog may be exposed to. When I call for boarding, about once a year the staff remembers my dog. My dog has a great time and is slow to leave when I pick him up. I feel safe and comfortable knowing my dog is at such a great place. read more

We decided to board our 6 month old Beagle here for one night while we were in town for a funeral. Everything on the surface seemed to be fine. Some of the workers were a bit eccentric but nothing too concerning. However, when we picked up the dog after only 24hrs something was obviously wrong. He was completely out of it and extremely lethargic. We decided to give him the night to recover as we thought he might be extremely fatigued. The next day the dog was still very lethargic and we now noticed that he was not putting any weight on his front left arm. At this point we decided to call the vet. We ended up going to an out of state vet as we were traveling. He had cuts and bruises all the way up his arm and was put on antibiotics and pain meds. I called The Madison and asked if anything happened and they said nothing and everything was fine. I fully understand that dogs can and do get hurt at doggy daycare/boarding but there was no need to deny anything happened. Clearly something happened and the dog was injured. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. STAY AWAY read more

My dog died within 36 hours of being at the Madison! On Friday, October 9th 2015 I brought my Miniature Pinscher (Maximus) to the Madison for the weekend so I could attend my sister's wedding. I've brought him there several times in the past and trusted him in their care. On Saturday 10/10 (the next day) I receive a call that Maximus was vomiting and was dehydrated. I called a friend to pick him up and bring him to the Oradell Animal Hospital. When my friend arrived there was large amounts of fluid coming out of Maximus' nose and mouth and he was severely dehydrated. Within 12 hours of leaving the Madison, my healthy and happy dog that I dropped off the day before was dead. The Vet said it was likely due to electrocution or something caustic that he ingested. Now I want everyone to know that I like Victor (the owner) - he seems to truly love dogs and he didn't push back one bit when it came to covering the medical expenses - he did the right thing. Maximus was also very mischievous and found a way to get into things. But that said, I was paying for them to care for Maximus and keep him safe while I was away. I waited over a month to write this review as I didn't want to write it in anger. My dog was a major part of my life and my family's life. He was my child. Now I know that may sound silly to most, but some will get it. I miss him so much, I'm sad every day and hope to get past this at some point. Again, I like Victor and it pains me to write this and hurt his business... but maybe if someone else wrote this and I read it, my dog would be alive today. read more

We bring our small dog to the Madison for their play and groom and every now and then when we go on day trips. He seems to like it, and he's always tired when he comes home. It's a nice and safe place to bring your pup, and the staff is friendly. It seems like they love dogs. I gave it 4 stars because every time we bring him here (he's got long fur), I always have to bathe him because he's got a strong odor. It doesn't bother me too much, but it's something to think about. Also their groomer is solid and listens to everything I want done to him and does do it. But there have been spots that are left longer than others that I've cut when we've gotten home. Also, they make the doggies potty inside instead of outside, and my dog is always adamant about going outside so he always has to go really bad when we pick him up. It's certainly a good place to go, but there are a few drawbacks. I would still recommend this place! read more

Chase loves going to The Madison! He has played for the day, stayed over night, stayed for a week, been bathed, and groomed many times. He has enjoyed every minute. Chase gets excited when just pulling into the parking lot. Everyone is so friendly and accommodating to our needs as well as Chase. The best part is being able to view Chase throughout the day on the web cam. Chase is not crated any longer so I think he enjoys having his own private room when staying over night the best. We send our dog for daycare once a week and whenever we travel. We've been sending Jake there since August 2012 and we've no problem there. Jake really likes going there. When we get to the building. He whines and pulls me to get inside. He does not shy away from any of the workers, instead goes right to the workers with tail wagging. We've notice that Jake is better with other people as well as with other dogs, so the daycare is working for him. read more

We love everything about The Madison! The staff is extremely accommodating, the facility is clean and Dug comes home and sleeps like a baby. Doggy day care was something new for us as our dog is still a puppy. Victor (the owner) screens the new animals and puts care and thought into making sure the dogs are well cared for and appropriately mixed by size and temperament. The staff engage the dogs and are more than happy to give you feedback. They are true animal lovers and my dog loves his visits. I completely trust that he is in good hands when I leave him for the day. I told Victor that Dug was out for the night 8 minutes after he got home the other night. After a long day of work it is nice to all relax and unwind together. I wish them all the best for the new facility in Wayne, NJ! With the business model Victor has in place now I'm sure have no problems with a 2nd success. read more

We took our dog for an assessment to the Madison Dog Resort. She is an 18 month old Cocker mix. The person who took care of us could not have been older than 18 or 19 years old. He took our dog inside and came back within a couple of minutes and told us that they cannot have our dog in daycare because she is aggressive. I explained to him that a couple of months ago she was attacked by another dog at a local doggie park and so she now growls and shows her teeth to other dogs as a warning, but that she has never attacked anyone. He replied that our dog snapped at him, which we were shocked to hear since she has never done that before. The fact that he came at her from behind as she was surrounded by other dogs, as he explained, might have something to do with it, but I frankly don't believe that she did this. She might lick people to death, but she is certainly not aggressive. In fact, as he was explaining this to us, two other staff members, also very young, passed by and our dog immediately went to them to be petted, wagging her tail, happy as can be. We asked if we could come back at another date for another assessment, and he emphatically said NO. We take our dog regularly to Pet Smart in Secaucus and also NYC and there has never been an issue, so I don't understand what the problem is. We wanted to try this place because it's closer to home and what a disappointment it turned out to be. It's hard to comprehend how a person can assess a dog in two minutes and not give her a chance to warm up to the other dogs and the new surroundings. And it's also difficult to understand why the place is run by teenagers. Maybe this is the weekend staff, but it would have been nice to talk to an adult. It would have also been nice to get a tour of the facilities. I did not feel comfortable with the notion that my dog was whisked away by a stranger to a place behind closed doors where I can't see what they're doing to her. And while the place was clean, there was a rather unpleasant pet odor lingering in the air. read more
