The service is friendly. The store has everything for beginners, hobbyists all the way up to professional class at reasonable prices. You can even rent the big props. They will demonstrate the trick for you, but don't be rude and expect them to reveal how the trick is done. Secrets are not revealed until you buy. But, if you ask generic questions like what skill level is required to perform the trick--which is fair-- they will answer. They had all the items on my shopping list, so I would say their selection is great for this beginner. read more

I am writing this review on the behalf of my roommate who practically lives at the Magic Apple. As an aspiring magician, this is his first stop when looking to get new props or books. And even if they don't have what you are looking for, they will order it for you. I think this place is a good stop for all ages. I even came in to get a juggling set. The people who work here are very knowledgeable for magicians of all levels. Be sure to check the hours before coming, as they open late. At the time I was a seminary student who fell out of magic but through getting acquainted with the shop and the wonderful community it offers, I am now a full time magician. As a local creator and inventor of Magic products, I have worked directly with the owner Brent in the past by offering my products directly and also through my distributor. Unfortunately, I received many direct complaints from customers that have been unhappy with The Magic Apple's unethical behavior by selling poor quality, knock-off replicas of my own product. Regrettably, this is not even the first time that I've discovered this company selling a knock-off of my items! Not only is Brent selling unauthorized copies of my products, but he's also using false advertising to push sales, by saying that they're "better than the original". There are tons of shops online that actually sell original, authentic items, and those shops continue to support the original creators in good faith, allowing the art of magic to move forward in an ethical way. In turn, magicians should continue to only support those shops that support original creators and are ethically contributing to the magic community, and not making shameful decisions fueled by greed and lack of ethics. When I personally reached out to Brent and asked him to stop selling the knock-off items, he responded with, " I am in the business of selling magic, and these are hot sellers for now." He has no regard for the magic community or the art of magic. I personally know people that have left bad reviews from similar experiences, and Brent has reached out to them begging them to remove their honest reviews. So if you're wondering why you don't see many other honest reviews, it's because the reviews are skewed. If you care about the art of magic in any way, the ethics within our community, and stand for supporting original creators, then I only ask that you do the right thing and support those like us, who honor and respect our art. read more

I had to get some party favors for my kid's birthday party at school and decided it would be fun to give out some simple magic tricks. Brent showed me the wide variety of what he has in the store (which is everything I can think of) that are suitable for kids in my son's age group. Then I got really curious about some of the other of what i felt were difficult tricks. For someone who has never done any kind of sleight of hand magic tricks before. Brent took the time to not only show me the products, but he also showed me and gave me some really great tips on how to achieve those tricks. Let just say the kids in his class had their minds blown. All of them and the teachers had such a great time and laughs. Furthermore, he has repeatedly sold merchandise to me with no instructions or tutorials and refuses to apologize for the inconvenience. My childhood has been resurrected! It's hard to find a decent magic shop in the LA/Hollywood area. Luckily I came across the Magic Apple and was able to fulfill a promise I made to my friends daughter that I'd take her to a magic shop. Little did I know I'd be running around the place more excited than she was. I was quite the little prankster growing up (still am) and found all the goodies I'd terrorize my family and friends with. From itching powder to the terrible terrible stink bombs that would send a crowd of people stampeding, this shop has it all. Let's not forget it's name sake, there's lots of magic tricks and demonstrations of the infamous UFO trick. I remember getting extremely excited as a kid when magicians would perform the UFO trick in Las Vegas magic shops. If you haven't guessed already, I stocked up on the goods. More so to have as collectors but knowing myself, I'll open a pack to victimize one of my buddies. Better yet, my brother will be visiting from the army soon so what better way to welcome him home. I have always taken an interest in magic but never thought it was very accessible to begin. I couldn't have been more wrong. One invite to The Magic Castle and I had to learn. "Where would I even begin to learn? " I asked myself. Enter The Magic Apple. Since day one of this journey, Brent and his staff have been some of the most helpful and kindest individuals in educating myself on the craft. I first stopped by just trying to look for effects I had seen performed and were easily purchased. Easily purchased does not mean easy to perform. Over the last few months they have recommended so many useful books and resources to learn from as well as some of my favorite things to carry with me from day to day. B'wave, Double Cross, and especially TIES, just to name a few. Always looking forward to stopping by and learning something new whatever that may be. Today was my first visit to 'The Magic Apple'. I needed to buy a magic deck for my daughter's boyfriend. This was very important to me, unknown to The Magic Apple's owner, Brent... Brent, answered my email (specifically, my inquiry regarding the cards I needed) and Brent was professional on the phone... along with a 'human' tone: NOT a programmed employee of a shady outfit. Cut to the chase: Brent greeted me, upon my entry to his store, with a COVID - conscious face mask on. He had two versions (color choices) of the deck of cards I requested in my email. My granddaughter wanted to do a magic act for her school variety show. Time allotment: 90 seconds. I had ordered some props on Amazon but they kept getting delayed and we're not going to arrive on time. Panicked, I looked online and found The Magic Apple. What a great decision to come here!!! I've been coming into this shop for about 20 years, and I've seen Brent, Anthony and Stephen cater to the eccentric needs of local magicians with great warmth, patience, and kindness. I've watched young kids who don't have many friends come and hang out on the weekends and get mentored by the shop, growing not only in their sleight of hand skill, but as a human being. We called the store in the morning and Steve answered and was so helpful. We explained we have an 8 year old developing an interest in Magic. We were interested in "The Original Socially Distant Magic Kit" they have advertised on their website. He asked a few questions about our son and offered to put together a customized box for him. We picked it up a few hours later. The store is very clean and even though we were the only customers we were asked to adhere to all of their posted rules (wearing a mask, putting on gloves, which they provide, if you want to touch anything) and I really appreciated that. I felt safe in here. We bought the box and a few other things. It was perfect for our son! And a great value!! Worth it for a child interested in learning magic tricks. Full of fun tricks perfect for a child his age and skill level. This store has excellent customer service. I highly recommended it. Steven helped us. I asked what tricks would be good for an 8 and 10 year old. He showed me a couple and when I asked him to tell me what the secret was (so I could determine whether or not the kids could "get it") he said if I buy it I"ll get the instructions inside. That didn't help me figure out if the kids will be able to understand it..and also, what's the point of getting an in store demo if he doesn't explain the damn trick. Was he afraid I was going to "steal" the secret of the $4.95 trick and have it manufactured/ripped off in China or something? I thought it was odd and somewhat ridiculous. Ended up buying 2 tricks and a gag hand buzzer thingy, spent like $26. I guess I'll return but wasn't crazy about the way I was treated. I would have spent a lot more if I didn't feel like I wanted to just get out of there. read more
