You know its a bad when the second you leave you are looking up other salons. The stylist was unprofessional, untalented, and the salon as a whole was unimpressive. If I'm paying 50$ for a haircut I expect 1. for you to put product in my hair BEFORE you use heat on it! 2. for your to know how to do a proper wash 3. for your staff to have a somewhat put together look (not multiple staff members in dollar store flip flops and clearly in need of a bra) 4. I should not have to ask to view the back of my head before getting out of the chair 5. I should not have to instruct your stylist over and over to blend the layers so it doesn't look like a five year old took some kitchen scissors to my hair. 6. She did not check to make sure both sides were even so now one side is longer by an inch tan the other. You honestly could not pay me to go back there. The hair stylist literally put NOTHING in my hair before doing the worst blow-dry of my life. Then when I looked in the mirror in horror because my roots were stuck to my head and the ends were dry and flared out She told me it was my fault for having greasy roots and dry ends.... Ok let's start by saying it falls short. First thing, when you walk through the door people aren't as social as they should. My first impression as I walked in is clean but not friendly environment. Secondly the ladies didn't really want to do a walk in for eyebrow/upper lip waxing even though there wasn't people inside. And lastly the prices are insane. $36 for waxing eyebrows and upper lip. Any where eles it's 13 for eyebrows 8 for lip. But for some reason they charge $36. So no I would not recommend this place unless you want to over pay and not be treated kindly. read more

When I was first in Kansas I came here from 2000 2005, this is the only hair salon I would go, the saw me through every length and color. When I left to California from 2005 to 2011, I couldn't wait to come back here and be around people who took pride in their work. I love the people I love their business and all they offer. (My only wish, is that they took up threading) I will not go anywhere else, I currently live in Manhattan and still travel to Junction city to see my hairdresser Kat who is amazing! I love that I can call and they know who it is on the phone. They text appointments to me, follow up with a phone call if I don't respond. They accommodate with my time and if I have to have multiple appointments with different people, they figure it out and make it work. I got lucky and found this place right away when I first moved here, when Robyn was recommended to me by an acquaintance with a great haircut. She's the only one I've gone to for cut and color, and I highly recommend her. She's very friendly and gentle, and takes plenty of time to listen to what I want and how she can go about it with my texture and color. She recommends things but is never pushy. She is an artist! She really takes note of your hair and tweaks things here and there as she's working, and takes plenty of time. I never feel rushed out. She also is considerate of my need to get the most bang for my buck (lol) and knows I don't want to be in all the time for color, so finds ways to extend my color and keep it looking great for extending time between touch ups. I just think that's rare in the industry to find someone who wants to work with you on spending less!! The rest of the staff has always been friendly and kind, though you can tell they are busy. I know a lot of reviews mention how pricey it is, and I can't disagree, but I also think it's pretty on par with nice salons in Arizona where I'm from. If there's a better stylist than Robyn who charges less, I would like to know! A cut costs $41. Color can run expensive very quickly, so take the time to ask for exactly how much and where you want it done (all over, partial highlight, full highlight, individual foils, etc) and get a price quote to save yourself some sticker shock when it happens read more

On Wednesday, 28 September, I had an appointment for a haircut and color with a hair stylist named Stephanie. She had cut my hair a few weeks ago and did a good job. I was looking forward to having her cut and color my hair, but when I arrived for my appointment, was told that she was wrapping up with another customer. So, after 20 minutes of waiting, I asked the receptionist how much longer it would be, I was told, "Steph said it'll be a while longer." I told the receptionist that I couldn't wait and was about to leave. Another stylist there, Endia, overheard us and offered to do my hair, so I agreed, and Endia did a great job! I really appreciate herShe is awesome. I am still shocked by how unprofessional the other stylist, Stephanie was. It was rather strange being seated right next to "Steph" who was still working on that same customer's hair, laughing, joking, and ignoring me. Steph never said anything to me and no one offered me an explanation. I paid $215 and was told they took the price of the haircut off (that's good because I didn't get one!). I should have asked for a discount for my time (waiting for over 25 mins.) I just thought it was important to post this review, just in case someone else experiences the same issue at this salon. I have went to this salon for better part of a decade and having returned from living overseas discovered that my old stylist, Trish had relocated out of town. NO! As I needed a cut and color and didnt want to travel far to get it done, I took a chance and asked for their best colorist. They put me in the hands of Endia and she is fabulous! She really listens to what you want and delivers fantastic service. She also does the BEST blowout and flat iron! I just wanna take her home!! I couldn't be any happier. This place is ridiculous for their price, the CND product is pretty commonly used in literally every salon who don't charge high prices for a fill. 103$ total for spa pedi and regular overlay on real nail bed with just regular nail polish mani it wasn't even gel. 39$ for a fill... and if your nails are overgrown $14 extra. It's an ok place. Nothing fancy. Looks like a great clips with nail stations. The pedicure was good. I was told 40$ but apparently got charged $50 due to matching some percentage. And the fill wasn't all that special. My cuticles were bleeding. I was in a rush so I needed to find a nearby nail place. Never been, so I lived 7-8 minutes away and decided to give it a try. Next time I'm just going to drive the extra 30 mins and go to a place that does moneys worth and actually doesn't charge so much. read more

While the salon is clean and the work up to par, their pricing system is absurd. I went in to get my acrylic nails filled and she refused to remove my old product in the manner I was accustomed, telling me I didn't know how to deal with nails like mine. She made me remove the bulk of the product on my nails and glued on tips, after I had told her I did not want tips. Instead of the fills I asked for, she did a full set. After an hour and a half, my nails were finally done--with an eighty dollar price tag. Too much for too little service. She then pushed for me to set up a follow-up appointment, but added that she would be out of town the week I would have needed it, so I'd have to wait. Needless to say, I will not return. read more

I used to go here while living in JC...Loved it most of the time but the last couple visits there was attitude from an employee. I absolutely LOVE Amber who does nails and styles hair. (she looks like Tracy on Jerseylicious!) There is another nail tech who I feel charges way too much and needs to go back to school to do nails and pedicures b/c shes horrible at them. Pricing is a little expensive, esp for eye brows and nails/mani/pedicures. I was looking for spa treatment and that's what I got. My spa pedicure was excellent. My manicure was decent. Not only did I get my hair cut but they also curled it for no extra charge. The only downside is their level system. I ended up paying $50 for a pedicure. A pedicure! That is ridiculous no matter where you go. And my haircut was only $29. Something is seriously wrong with their pricing. But the service was excellent and the girls were really nice. They should make their waiting area a little more comfortable. But the salon was very clean and if it weren't for the pricing I would give it 5 stars read more

My experience was disappointing to say the least. the customer service wasn't friendly or accomodating..I felt like the receptionist was distracted and annoyed. When I arrived my appointment was scheduled incorrectly. Somehow a "full highlight and a haircut on very I'mthick hair" translated to a "basic tint" in the schedule. I was shuffled to different stylists that had time to do my hair. Over five hours and $225 later i had a cute hair cut and highlights. I did have to chase down the owner and introduce myself and fish for an apology for the mix up in the beginning. One week later my blonde hair has turned a brassy copper color. I called the salon and once again dealt with the rude and annoyed receptionist. I explained my situation and she said "ok hang on" & put me on hold for five minutes. Then said she could get me in the same day for only a consult and they could see what they can do . I said that wouldn't work. (*I'm not paying for childcare for you to gawk at my hair and grumble about how thick it is). Then she said friday. Ok booked. Then rude girl calls me back and says the stylist won't do it. She didn't have enough time for me. Ok so I chat with the owner. I literally Said "i want to spend money in your salon.i sent my friends there. I'm coming back and giving you a chance to fix my hair and I'm being treated badly." She was reassuring and friendly. I got an appointment booked to fix my color. Then they called and cancelled it. AGAIN. So i asked "can i just get a blowout/style.i want my hair to at least look somewhat good for my birthday this weekend. Even if it's orange." I went in today to get a 60 minute massage. There was a Christmas special going on and the massage was $49, originally $60 for 60 minutes. My massage was AMAZING! She spent a lot of time on my shoulders and back like I asked and hit spots I didn't even know were there. Not recommended for those that want good quality service. I have had SEVERAL problems here. First a few years back I asked for a body wave and got a super tight nasty perm. Had to cut my hair to about my ears almost. Shitty pedicures that build up a white residue on top of polish just 1 day after. Also tried getting my hair and makeup done for our ball and my husband made me take it all off because he said I looked like a whore (in lesser words) the make up was heavy and the lashes were falling off before I even got home, my hair looked like a rats nest not to mention the bobby pins were also falling out before getting home. Do not go there. Also, headlines is owned by the same person but they constantly change their prices (never the same). I would recommend going anywhere but here! They rip people off! Extremely unhappy with my hair! I went in wanting one thing and came out with a completely different color than what I wanted after I even showed pictures and explained how my previous hairstylist has done it. I felt pretty much like she ignored what requested. I voiced how unhappy I was with it and never once was I offered to fix it, they "talked" to the manager and gave me 20 bucks off $200 price tag!!! I wouldn't mind paying even that but I at least expected to be happy with the results....the manager didn't even bother to come out and speak to me ... I consider that horrible management. The lady who did my hair was nice and cool but I think she just ignored what I asked for. I've been doing my hair in this similar fashion for a very long time and I knew what I was talking about when I went in but she just went ahead and did what she wanted and it was completely not what I wanted. I am extremely unhappy with my hair and the way this situation was handled, I left the salon almost in tears because I was so unhappy and all they said was 20 bucks off ..pretty much you are shit out of luck....absolutely no offer to fix it. I will never recommend this place to anyone and I will post my review in as many sites as I can. I would at least appreciated the manager coming out and apologizing or trying to somehow rectify the situation personally but I guess customer satisfaction isn't very important...should be considering the price tag I payed for a hair job i absolutely hate. read more

I have been living here since Jan 2013, have tried multiple beauty saloons, this is first and only one where the front desk receptionist ( short black hair) was welcoming, nice and professional! Due to her positive interaction, I proceeded to make a walkin appt for a hair cut/style w Courtney. Courtney was fabulous! My style is perfect! Her sweet personality, professionalism and skills are a wonderful combination. I recommend her to anyone who appreciates talent and is mature enough to know as a consumer you don't need "attitude" from a stylist and be treated as they are doing you a favor to receive quality beauty care and services. I received better services and overall experience for 30.00 compared to the 65.00 I was paying somewhere else for a shampoo/ cut and style! read more

I just moved to the junction city area. I wanted to get all over color on my hair Bc I hadnt gotten my hair done in awhile. the ladies were very friendly when I walked in. amber was the girl assigned to do my hair. she was very friendly and pleasant. she asked what I wanted done. I said I wanted the red in my hair to be covered. I said in the past when I had gone to hair salons I ALWAYS had the stylist put on a level 5. she said she was going to mix a level 4 and 5. I said ok. after she dried my hair I looked in the mirror and my hair was BLACK. she asked if I liked it and I said um no its black I said I didn't wanna go dark and now it's black. she said its not black and she had to go darker on me Bc of the red. I was visibly upset and not happy and she then started acting irritated with me! she did say if I still wasn't happy in 3 days to call back. I guess she thought I might love my black hair in three days??? needless to say they let me walk out of the salon very unhappy. the same day I went to another salon that matched my hair to a level 2, confirming my hair was one level from black. Ouch I've been doing my hair since I WAs 13 (I'm 25) so I know a lot about what my hair can do anyways, I went in there and asked for blonde highlights, my hair dresser (sandy) said I was gonna be there to long and then I would have to come in more often and that she wasn't going to be able to lighten my hair that much, first of all I don't mind the maintenance and second she did what was easy for her and not what I wanted, I wanted to change my hair so bad that I let my self get convinced for something I didn't want or like, one of the things I said was I don't like red or gold, and guess what color my hair is?? Yea red and copper, but just the top part because my hair only has highlights in the top of my head and the rest is brown, one good thing is that she curled my hair really fast and pretty... I called the manager and she suggested to schedule an appointment to get my hair done again at no charge, for real for another 4 hours?? I still don't know if I'm going to get my hair done there again, but in the mean time I'm wearing my hair back with lots of hair gel... by way It was $167.00 to get my hair looking funny... plus tip, yea I tipped because even if I didn't like it, she still worked on my hair for4 hours... Today me and my friend went to The Mane Thing for a Basic Pedicure Package, we had an appointment at 2, and had to sit in there "waiting room" which is just two benches and a chair full of dying plants for 30 minutes. Once we finally went back to our seats, we were practically pushed to the polish rack to pick ONE color. As we sat, we had one careless employee who we later found out was not ever specialized in nail tech, and one over touchy employee, who looks as though she needs to take better care of herself. it took TWO HOURS to get a pedicure. i asked for a simple flower detail and it took 10 minutes to do each flower, i got 6 all together. My friend go chevron print and it looks as though i could have done it myself. It took the employee 3 times and it still is not pretty. When the women was filing my friends toes my friend said she did not want her toes filed, the lady continued to file anyways, the lady filed it so short my friends toe begins to bleed every time she walks. We also believe she has gotta mrsa from this awful experience. I could not have the simplest conversation with my friend without these two employees listening in on OUR conversation without their unneeded input. They also told us personal things about heir lives that we did not ask for, we just wanted a simple pedicure and enjoy each others company but these two women ruined that experience for us. Lastly the bill, after a awful experience i was ready to leave, but then i went to pay and it was 42 DOLLARS for each of us, the pricing system was terrible. So today I came to Mane Thing to get my hair done and I can tell you if I ever come back, it will be for the stylist ONLY. So when I first came in I noticed a few of the stylist were doing hair and were wearing clothing I would wear to a baseball game with the family. There was 1 in particular wearing a t shirt and leggings with tennis shoes. Which is fine I was just a little taken back because this was supposed to be a "high end salon". The next thing I noticed is a stylist sitting on a saddle. I just feel like if I'm going to a high end salon the stylist should be able to stand and not roll around to get product. Also shouldn't be on her phone while with a client. I understand people have medical problems but there is a PROFESSIONAL way to deal and work around them and this is not the way. After I had to go get my hair washed to wash the color out and the chairs are FALLING apart!!! She had to lower back of the chair by hand thinking I didn't notice! The chairs aren't even connected!!! Where is the money people are paying to get their hair done going because it's not to the salon nor the equipment. Before I left I noticed a jewelry stand with jewelry. I asked what it was for and was told a stylist sells it.....for $5 a piece......I was a little taken back because this is a salon and I feel like having home businesses just setting up shop make you look tacky! I just feel like the salon owners really need to reevaluate the way they are spending money and the actions of their stylist's! I know Headlines (salon they also owned) just closed and Mane Thing is headed that way if they don't get it together! Went there today because I got a spa day as a gift. Not only was my manicure and pedicure before my facial and massage but my polish wasn't allowed to dry because they didn't have time but I got polish on myself and clothes setting up for a massage. The massage woman didn't have me fill out preliminary survey because she had a client as soon as my massage was over and didn't have time for me to fill one out. Then they said that I was ready for my haircut and I told them I didnt think that was part of package but they assured me it was. After my haircut was complete and after they fixed the manicure the receptionist tried to charge me for a haircut saying it wasn't part of the package! All this while the girls were shuffling me around each one saying they didn't have time and had another client coming in! This also happened with the hairstylist asking the assistant to shampoo her client that came in hair while she rushes to finish mine! I will give it to hairstylist that she did a great job but if they are on such a time crunch then the receptionist and owner need to schedule less appointments. I felt rushed through and didn't really get to enjoy the experience. The receptionist could also lose the attitude and the customer is right. They need more communication skills that's for sure. read more
