Incredible experience here. Hartsville is a small town gem of the south. I'm grateful to have had the chance to stay here and also eat an incredible steak dinner at Sam Kendell's next store. We are always on the lookout for nice hotels to enrich our road trips & the Mantissa didn't disappoint! Our room was gorgeous & well appointed! The Sleep Number bed was very comfortable. Loved the big soaking tub! Definitely was a draw for us. It was great after a long 7.5 hour drive even though it was a ways off I-95! Totally worth it! While we initially had a bit of confusion upon check in with the type of room booked, it was quickly sorted. There were a few niggling fine points that could be improved upon, the person at the desk upon checking out asked about things and assiduously took notes on the few items. read more

As I walked in I was so surprised by this beautiful hotel here in Hartsville. The staff here at the Mantissa is so friendly and nice. This hotel is well structured with a quaint historical feel. The rooms are huge and apartment like. Our suite was a delight with a full stylish kitchen even a table in the kitchen. It's very hard not to feel at home here. We enjoyed relaxing in the living room area with the cable TV. The bedroom was wonderful as well equipped with a sleep number bed. Oh what an experience. The bathroom is very beautiful and set to impress with all the modern touches to make you feel spoiled as well as welcomed. My experience here was far and beyond any expectations I could ever have for a small town like Hartsville, not that I don't expect small towns to have nice hotels however this one is way beyond like I said earlier. I'm already planning my next visit Hartsville visit and yes I'll be staying here again and again. You can't go wrong you will be very comfortable here at The Mantissa! read more

We decided to use this place as a stopping point on our way from PA to Florida. The place is a surprise it is a great apartment like rooms. Nice, clean with separate kitchen and a bedroom in what seems to be a converted warehouse or a factory. It gives off that classy vibe and yet appears to be very very hip and new. The room we stayed at both times is nice and clean with good beds, which I find to be a rarity unless you're paying through the nose, while here the room rates are reasonable. The one thing that did rub me the wrong way were actually little things like sink vanity seemed to be dinged and in need of repair and the place to hang the roll of toilet paper would turn over if you pull a little harder then a slight tug. But overall I would definitely stay there again. read more

Balcony King Suite Room 207 Rate $199 + 23.88 (tax&fees) = 222.88 Front Door: Cipher Lock!!! No key, No card. Combo is unique to guest, so easy to remember. Kitchen: Very nicely decorated. Extremely clean. Full sized refrigerator, stove/oven, dishwasher, small island table with two chairs (the hanging lights were really nice) coffee pot, 2 complimentary Dasani waters. Living Room: Very nicely decorated. Extremely clean. Comfortable love-seat (I think it's a pull out bed), 2 chairs, flatscreen tv, small chrome table, box of tissue (the thing I found funny was every thing was very modern and elegant looking, then there was the box of tissue. It seemed odd it wasn't in a decorative box it's self. Not a complaint, just something I noticed) Balcony: Iron table and two chairs. It's pretty small, big enough to sit and drink some coffee and eat some takeout/delivery food. DO NOT SMOKE ON THE BALCONY. No smoking with in 10 feet of the building. (Sorry). They gave me a warning. Bedroom: HUGE bedroom. The bed was very comfortable. The pillows were fluffy, not to firm. Sheets were soft. The hanging lights matched the ones in the kitchen. There is a big more that was very useful for my girlfriend who seems to enjoy sitting in the floor and doing her make up from her bag. There's also a decent closet if you need to hang your cloths. (extra linen and a faux fur robe that's really nice) Bathroom: It is fairly big. Big tub (no jets). The sink is an open slanted stone design. Which is nice for when both of you are getting ready, brushing brushing your teeth and what not. Glass enclosed shower (just big enough for two people ;-) With good water pressure!!! The soap/shampoo/conditioner/lotion were from the spa down in the lobby. It was good quality and smelled nice. The only thing I hate about the bathroom is the toilet. It's just out in the open in clear view of the shower and tub. No privacy if there is two of you. *I think the Balcony King is the only room with the big bathtub. That was the main reason I chose it. Heartsville: We love this town. It's small and quiet. A nice little get away. The block Mantissa is on has some nice little bars and boutiques. Brandy at Lulu's Boutique was amazing. We liked Retrofit Sip and Seat (Devon was very nice and cute! She teaches ballet and was singing in the "King and I" in Florence. I think she was single too!) and Vintage Craft Beer and Wine Boutique (Brandy's husband owns it) Everyone was nice and we made a few friends. Heartsville is the mid point for me and my GF to meet, both driving 2.5 hours. We were going to meet in Florence and I'm so glad we came here instead. This was our second stay. Two weekends in a row and we got the same room. My GF loves it, we walk everywhere, I hit the bars and get a nice little buzz, then buy her a ton of stuff at the shops. There is a restaurant next door "Sam Kendall's" that was pretty good. We had no reservations. It was busy and the hostess pushed us on through no problem. I admit the service wasn't great but it wasn't bad. I think the waitress was just having a bad night. She was very friendly. The plate presentation could have been way better. I mean way better... but I ordered a Medium Rare Filet Mignon and it was cooked PERFECTLY! (I grew up working in fine dining restaurants and this steak was on point.) Who ever was working the grill that night saved this place for me. read more

3rd stay. Different room each time. So far, no two rooms are alike. Tonight the living room is huge and the kitchen feels more spacious. No dining room table. Large king sized bedroom and a huge walk in closet. Sometimes they have been really small closets and had a dining room table. Bathroom with a shower. For the price point you can't beat it. The staff and location are what make this place so amazing though. In the heart of downtown. You can walk to everything. Restaurants, movie theater, shopping. I would have given 5 stars but there was one minor issue but we were only in town for one night so it wasn't a real big deal. I'm the unit we had the pullout sofa cushions were tore up really bad I feel like it's an item that's easily replaceable and shouldn't have been like that. Who knew there was such a gem in Hartsville! This boutique hotel was so classy! Every detail was first class and beautiful! The decor is break taking either all of the gorgeous art!! The suite had a king and queen bedroom...and talk about spacious!! We could have brought our entire family! Gorgeous furniture...excellent customer service! I saw pictures of this hotel before I arrived (which looked great), but the brand new hotel (with a lot of character and charm) was even better in person. The rooms had hardwood floors, were tastefully decorated, uncluttered and very roomy. Between the friendly staff and the hotel ammenities themself, I felt right at home! Let's start with location... The locals have embraced their downtown and it is the place to be. Right in the middle, the heart, the hub of the vibrant hip downtown area of Hartsville. Within walking distance of many restaurants, wine bar, coffee shops, shopping options and even a old school, nostalgic movie theater. And just a few blocks from Coker College. The staff is very attentive. We were greeted by the GM, Tim Blackwell, who gave us the grand tour including a roof top bar. A great place for an afternoon cocktail or two. Not to mention, A stay here gets you full use of the YMCA that is located just across the street. A lovely boutique hotel with just 17 upscaled suites, this is the ELITE choice for Hartsville, SC. Exterior is very attractive but you have to see the interior. Nicely decorated with custom black rod iron, impressive prints, local area photos and modern furnishings. Our room... A very large (900 sq. ft.) 2 room suite with a fully equipped kitchen including Keurig coffee maker and an awesome custom made rod iron and cement dining table. A gorgeous white leather sofa bed is featured in the living room/lounging area with plenty of room to entertain. Entering the bedroom, you get the WOW factor with the oversized space, fancy furniture, plush linens and walk in closet. We travel a lot... Not only is this one of the biggest bedrooms we seen for a hotel but it's the first to include a "Sleep Number" bed... A very nice touch. Lastly... The bathroom... The perfect size featuring an oversized custom made cement sink and large walk in tile shower. A very elegant upscale stay... Look forward to many return visits. read more

I love this hotel, they came to my rescue ! I had reserved a room at the Fairfield in Hartsville , only to arrive with my 82 yr old Mother and they had no rooms, said I had cancelled it. I asked for them to call another hotel because I wasn't familiar with this town , they said "none are available ". I went on line and found Mantessa, I was there within 5 min., greeted by a lovely girl at the desk , she knew my name since I had just booked on line . She had my key code ready , and the room , more like a full condo , was beautiful with a balcony , full kitchen , huge bedroom , beautiful area downtown , close to so many restaurants , parking right out front , it was perfect . Went to the Rooftop Bar one evening before I stayed at this location enjoyed the view, the staff was good, overall worth taking an evening to enjoy. Started staying here for an extended stay. Nice rooms, quiet and roomy. Beds have adjustable air mattress - going to take a bit of time to get used to it. I've since left after 2 months at this location. I can't say enough about how good the experience was and how much I appreciate all the staff did. I worked the night shift and the manager and housekeeping made sure that the room was taken care of when it would not disturb my sleep. This location uses sleep number mattress, excellent choice in my opinion. The rooms are set up in the style of one bedroom apartments with full kitchen. read more

This is a lovely boutique hotel. The staff is phenomenal and the amenities are luxurious. The linens are soft and fluffy and the room was spotless. Not a 5 rating for 2 reasons....I like it dark in my room and with shutters and no curtains, this was impossible. Also the City of Hartsville empties the dumpsters in the lot behind the hotel at 5:45 each morning. Waking to the sound of the trucks in reverse and dumpsters slamming was not pleasant. However, even with those two items I would choose to stay at the Mantissa over the other options in Hartsville. The property was beautiful, the room was large, with balcony, soaker tub and yes a Sleep number bed, it was beyond expectations. This hotel is fabulous! Truly one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. We stayed here to celebrate my daughter's graduation. The rooms are immaculate and beautiful. Everything is up-to-date. Ours Included a living room, as well as a full kitchen and a separate bedroom with a spacious bathroom and closet. All the decor is modern and up-to-date. We absolutely loved the rooftop bar. A great place to relax with a cocktail and enjoy the cool breeze. There was ample seating and wonderful drinks. All the hotel staff was fabulous as well too. Very accommodating. My husband and I LOVED it!! We were attending a wedding and stayed for 2 days. Our suite was spacious, clean, comfortable, upscale.....I could go on! Well worth the money. Loved the plantation shutters, the hardwood floors, and the stainless steel appliances!! Also Loved the bathroom shower and sink! Loved that there were no keys but we were issued codes to get into our room. Rooftop bar area was cozy with its fireplace and friendly atmosphere. We were visiting family and were given the suggestion to stay here. A couple of years ago when we visited, we stayed in Florence because we were told there wouldn't be hotels in Hartsville that we would like. We were misinformed. The hotel, staff and overall experience is amazing! Shannon is a lifesaver! She checked us in when I had reserved the wrong days and we were blesssd to have another guest cancel. She allowed us to check in early and gave us the best food suggestions in town! We loved the kitchen (although there's no dishwasher and we felt weird leaving dirty dishes in the sink). We asked someone to make up our bed and change the towels - she left additional supplies and did a wonderful job. The only thing to note (it has nothing to do with the staff of course) is that the walls seem very thin and we could hear entire conversations, walking, and noises very clearly throughout our stay. The next time we visit (and we will visit again), we will ask for a quieter room. We loved our experience! read more
