It is not always interwoven throughout the child's day while at school. For Lamplighter Montessori School, the term "Montessori" most certainly applies in philosophy and in practice. Lamplighter provides a learning environment which is actually a learning community of staff members with diverse backgrounds and experiences as well as a diverse student population. The staff embraces each student as an individual and understands child development involves multi-intelligence parameters, not just a grade level. The leadership of Lamplighter is dynamic and continuously seeks avenues and ideas to improve the school and campus to excite teaching and facilitate learning involving the whole child. If you are looking for a learning environment during an age of creating test score learners that will encourage your child(ren) to become independent and explorative learners, consider contacting Lamplighter Montessori School. Our family continues to appreciate yearly school improvements and a dedication to our children as individuals as well as academic and life learners.

We now have two children enrolled at the school and could not be happier with the results. Our children don't come home with bad habits and are nurtured every day in a wonderful discovery zone by teachers who genuinely care about their development academically, socially and in practical life skills. My 4 year old is reading and writing and my 2 year old sets the table! They do this without my asking and happily! They celebrate each other's successes and have a relationship they could only get from being in the same classroom. The kids are in classes that span three years so they get to teach and learn from each other. There's not room enough to write about the good this does for them at school, at home and for the rest of their lives. Montessori is different in that the materials and the classroom are set up for discovery and to build a foundation for learning and a love of learning for the rest of their lives. Conventional schooling is set up more for the way adults learn in that children sit in rows and learn according to a generic lesson plan for that day rather than for the individual. Children don't naturally learn this way, as is evidenced by the prevalence of ADHD and ADD diagnoses and medications today. In the Montessori school, they learn the same things at the same age (or earlier) as children in conventional schools, but they learn it when they themselves are interested in it and with their own hands so they really absorb it and enjoy it. The materials are self correcting, so the child can adjust their technique until they figure out how to "get it right" and therefore really discover and learn the lesson instead of memorizing a correct answer. My 2 year old is working with materials called "metal insets" that seems like coloring to her now, but are actually preparing her mind and hands for writing! My 4 year old is working with the "trinomial cube" which is a fun puzzle for him now, but is also teaching him the basis for algebra! There is also parent education here, so the parents can really know all about the way their children are learning (otherwise I wouldn't be able to write this review!). The kids get to go on fun field trips to farms and other places, have celebrations at school for special holidays and birthdays and get to grow a garden and eat their produce and decorate with their flowers! I truly couldn't recommend this school more heartily and I think every parent should at least look into Montessori for their own children. I can't wait to enroll our third child and we are already employing Montessori methods for infants here at home. It's truly different and truly amazing and truly makes happy, well rounded kids!
