I came into The Master's Touch Salon to shave my head as I was losing my hair from chemo. I was extremely anxious about having to do this and fully expected to spend my entire time in the chair crying. Instead, my stylist, Elle, jumped right in and had me laughing in no time. I spent the entire visit just having a genuine conversation with a wonderful person - laughing and sharing life experiences. I'm extremely grateful I went to The Master's Touch Salon for this part of my treatment journey. They were caring, kind, and compassionate and I highly recommend Elle and this salon. What's more, they didn't even charge me for the visit. I know this isn't a typical salon review as I seemingly had my hair "undone" but any salon and stylist that shows this degree of care and compassion is certainly the kind of place I'd go to again and again. read more

After going to another colorist who just didn't have a clue, that messed my hair up and had to have me come back to "fix it", I decided to call Kesha for my color retouch. Kesha was my colorist nearly ten years ago when she was at a different salon and I don't know why I ever stopped seeing her. I went in today to get my hair highlighted with some of my natural color pulled through and I haven't been this happy with my hair in ten years! I am seriously kicking myself for not seeing her sooner. She is extremely talented and I guarantee you will not leave her chair with anything other than a head full of perfect blonde highlighted hair. No brassy crap here ladies. Every strand is perfectly blonded to perfection. She rents her own booth at the master's touch, so be prepared to pay a little more than what they charge. The residents of Jacksonville have a few things going for them: beach (or salt) life, tasty mojitos, muscle cars, and -since this is a salon review- good hair. I mean it's a little ridiculous. I was recently at the Tinseltown Movie Theater and everyone from the girl at the ticket booth to the customers to the people at the concession stand had luscious locks of unrealistically good-looking hair. Seriously. You want to run your fingers through it but restrain yourself because the thought of messing with something so pristine is paralyzing. People like how they look. They show off here - locals and tourists alike - from babies decked out in Marc Jacobs to glamorous grannies cruising town in their Ferraris. And to all my Yankee friends, contrary to popular belief I haven't really seen that many mullets. All joking aside, Jacksonville is peppered with mini-malls; you can imagine that the competition in the hair business is as fierce as the standards are high. I stumbled across Masters Touch Hair Salon because it was close to my apartment, and I was impressed by the online photos. From first impressions this is a no-frills salon that focuses on the craft of hair design above interior design. Granted the salon is undergoing renovation there is an overarching sense of function over form, which is what I prefer. If you make me look marvelous, I am your loyal customer for life. Besides bourgie overhead costs tend to trickle down to the customer wallet, so I can live without the pamper and prestige. Whereas I was in desperate need of a highlight revival and haircut, I also wanted a striking look that jived with the Florida beach bunny atmosphere. My stylist, Nicole, was a godsend. First of all she looks fabulous, which is always a promising sign when forging these types of relationships. And while youthful in appearance, she's packed in 9-years of this craft under her belt. Her consultation was meticulous and she has an eye for color. She steered me away from choosing a shade that was too similar to my skin tone for a color that brought out my features and took years off my aesthetic. It was clear my happiness was her priority but it was coupled with the self-assuredness that she knew what she was doing and how to make people look their very best. It is also worth mentioning that the time it took for her to highlight, apply keratin treatment, and cut my hair was about a third of the time I have experienced at other salons. I am not sure what her secret is other than that she and her mentor must have true a mastery of the product. I walked away from the experience paying a fraction of what I am used to, very pleased with the service. When I came home I hit the fitness center in my building and was asked if I am one of those people who primp before working out. Score! Beach bunny look accomplished. They do a fantastic job at Master's Touch. Their service prices are SO reasonable. I have long hair and for a shampoo, cut and blow dry, I pay only $35. Julie is my stylist, but I'm sure the other stylists are very good as well. read more

I'm a little late on my review but I go my hair done ( cut and color ) by Mary Beth and I loved it! She got the color down to a T of what I was looking for and freshened up my cut.( I called earlier that morning and make an appointment by the way so how awesome is that that I was able to get in on a same day appointment! ) She also gave me really great recommendations for restaurants and places to visit around Jacksonville as I just moved her from California. Had my first haircut at Master's Touch today and I'm very, VERY happy with my cut by Mary Beth. Heard about her through a colleague and made an appointment a few days in advance. Everyone that worked there seemed very nice, including the owner. Mary Beth was very experienced, professional, and personable and she advised me on a cut that fits me perfectly. We ended up cutting almost 12 inches off my hair and now I have a short bob just above my shoulders, a bit longer in the front with layers all around. Exactly what I wanted and couldn't be happier - I'm definitely going back. Thanks for the ease and pleasure of a fresh and fitting cut. read more

Please do not get the chocolate nano keratin! It's a scam. Gia the hairstylist had no clue what she's doing. I asked her all kinds of questions and it appeared she really knows nothing about this treatment. I was told that this treatment lasts for 6 months and it will smooth my hair. I asked what kind of chemicals is in this product. I was told there are no keratin in it. Mind you the name of the treatment is chocolate nano KERATIN! For whatever reason I decided to go ahead with the treatment and came to regret this decision. My hair is beyond damage from root to tip. It's more frizzy and unmanageable. I have no other choice but to cut it all off. I felt I was scam out of my money. Please do your research before any treatment! And whatever you do, do not get a keratin treatment done at this salon!!!!! read more

It is my own fault for trusting Yelp because I am in a new city. I don't want to speak for the whole salon as there were stylists there who seemed to really care about what their clients wanted and even SPOKE to them throughout the process. My stylist knew I had issues with breakage, that I wanted to go darker yet left me plopped in a chair and was absent during processing time, no checks, nothing. Another stylist tried to locate her when she noticed my dryer had been off over 5 minutes. When they located her, she walked in very non-chalantly with her food, she took her time, walked slow and after putting her food in the back told me to come get washed out. I did my best to be polite despite knowing this is not how a person should be treated, especially a new customer. I will NEVER go back to her as she was not the least bit what I heard on reviews. I told her to just trim vs cut because I was terrified as to what she would do, left feeling disappointed and disgusted. read more

I went in a few weeks ago to go blonde from having medium brown hair. I insisted on a full dye job but Misty insisted I do highlights. The results were awful and the day after I called up and requested a re-do. Shawn was supposed to do it but got injured. I ended up using Nicole who I liked very much but still did not get the results I wanted. It is still uneven, roots are showing, and is an offputting color of yellowish blonde. It was not worth the 140 I spent and will definitely not be back. read more

I listen to Christian radio, The Promise, daily and I had heard Theresa and Mary Rachel on various occasions rave about The Masters Touch and Shawn, its owner. I had meant to call him to make an appointment, but I never got around to it. Well, until last week. I have been having thyroid problems and losing a lot of hair, which has really sadden me, since I have always loved my healthy and thick head of hair. I called Shawn last week, feeling kind of low and explained my situation. He spent a good 20 minutes on the phone with me, explaining the different remedies and options I had to improve my hair loss situation. He offered to see me to maybe layer my long hair and help take off some of the weight, to help the hair be lighter and less of a pull on the scalp, but yet look fuller. I was so grateful for the time he spent with me and the attention he gave me, but that was not all. When we were done with our conversation and we had made an appointment, Shawn offered if he could pray for me! He did, and he blessed me richly! How many strangers do we talk to, who take a personal interest and are willing to pray for us?! On Saturday I went to my appointment with Shawn. He was so kind and yet professional with me and both my husband and son, who accompanied me. His wife, Susan, immediately offered us coffee, water. Everyone in the salon was friendly and up beat. Shawn and his wife, Susan, took such good care of me, I was made to feel so very special. Shawn layered my hair, and by end of the appointment my hair did look fuller and lots less heavy! He advised me on which shampoo and conditioner I should use, and then when I went to pay with my debit card, he made it so that I did not have a spot on my receipt to add any tip, he did this because I had earlier shared with him that I had recently lost my job! What an incredible kind gesture! Thank you, Shawn. May God bless you and your precious wife, Susan richly in His provision and goodness! I rate The Masters Touch Hair Salon a 10! Shawn is truly a master hairstylist! Their professionalism, yet kindness and genuine concern for their clients, is truly amazing!
