Because it's sort of in the middle of nowhere, Branagan's gets a business crowd from Elm Park and the hotel guests. There's plenty of dark wood, the big couches are comfy, everything's clean, and the carvery is standard fare, although slightly overpriced. The best thing about this place is the fact that each time I've been there has been a real character or two at the bar. Pop in, enjoy a (quite good) pint and talk to somebody wearing corduroy - they might be a retired sociologist or spy!

The (really lovely) waitress even checked with the chef but when it arrived it was not fillet, sirloin at best but not fillet. Tasty but with some fat running through it which both my friend and I abhor!! Charging €24 for a steak advertised as fillet and serving another cut is not acceptable in my opinion. However, it was tasty (I tried it too) and perfectly cooked. Accompanied by onions and mushrooms in garlic cream sauce and served with a huge bowl of salad that was a mix of leaves, tender stem brocolli, cucumber and warm baby roast potatoes drizzled in honey mustard dressing. Delish! We had a bottle of white wine recommended to us which was delicious. When we finished our main, we waited 20 mins for anyone to come to the table to clear and offer dessert menu but this did not happen. I went to the bar to ask for water and dessert menu and after another 10 mins a waiter came with (horrible) tap water and told us the 2 dessert options. If Paddy Cullen's is obnoxiously full, and Bellamy's downstairs lounge is out of seats, we'll make our way to the front window of Crowe's. It's not entirely lacking in charm, and has its fans and supporters who fill the seats on week nights and match days, but I just can't get excited about a pint here. Part of it has been the weather inside; a strange thing to say, but how else to describe the humid funk down the back of the pub that simply won't abate, even in the driest weather? The service is impersonal as well, with staff quietly filling our glasses without a smile. Then there's the pub itself, seats crowded to the walls (except for the excellent little area right up front at the window) and leaving a walk way wide enough to land an AirBus if needed. Most days the huge TV is on and shouting, leaving little space for conversation unless you retreat to a far corner. On the plus side, things are a tad cheaper in here than in the very plush Cullen's or ye olde Bellamy's, but it doesn't make up for the loss of atmosphere.
