Delicious food and great service! We didn't have definite plans for dinner tonight and ended up here on a whim; another fortunate choice. We were quickly seated and ordered drinks. Hubby ordered the Irish potato skins appetizer and a shepherds pie while I ordered the risotto of wild Irish mushrooms, both of us intending to share. Everything we ordered was delicious and the servers were accommodating down to providing decaf for our after dinner drinks (since we have to be up early tomorrow!). Very happy to have visited this place during my time in Dublin! A large group of girls and I had the pleasure to sit down and converse over a delicious meal. Our waiter was quick on his feet and our food was brought out in no time. He refilled our water often & checked up on us frequently, something I really appreciate coming from the United States. I ordered the sirloin steak and it was AMAZING! It was made perfectly and it satisfied all of my taste buds. The chips were lovely as well, and I left the restaurant feeling full + happy. After our tour of the Dublin Castle we decided to have some lunch, my wife noticed a nice and traditional pub across the street. We walked in and were seated right away, and we ask for the specials and they told us about the sliders with chips (french fries) and a shrimp sandwich with their sweet brown bread. We all agreed to get the specials and then order two soups to help combat the cold weather a tomato bisque and clam chowder. The first thing to arrive were the soups and they were amazing and very filling. The tomato bisque had the right combination of texture and taste, I just kept on dunking the sweet bread to the warm soup. I tried my wife's clam chowder and it was the best I ever had, with large chunks of clams and the broth was well seasoned. The main entrees arrived and they did not disappoint, the sliders were delicious, the beef was well cooked and seasoned. My sandwich consisted of large portions of shrimp and the french fries were nice and crispy with the right amount of salt. The servers were the friendliest and the most patient we ran into during our trip. This was the perfect final meal of our 2017 Euro trip. read more

We were both very disappointed with the oak. I got the chicken and stuffing sandwich, my husband got the BBQ pulled pork sandwich, and they were the most crumbly breaded sandwiches we've ever had. Mine was totally greasy and I had to keep wiping my hands or I would have shattered my water glass. Our chips were completely soggy too. Would not recommend. read more

One of the best bars I have been to my entire life. Bartender was patient and incredibly knowledgeable. Spacious and gracious service. Other patrons were friendly. A beautiful white marble bar with dark wood and lots of blue accents. Wish I spent more time here! We popped in for gin and tonics and bite as we were waiting for our tour at Dublin Castle (across the street). Definitely stop in for a drink or even a meal! Irish Gin and tonics are heavenly. You must try the Glendalough Gin and Tonic. Super aromatic and life tasting. Served with the gin in the glass along with slice of grapefruit perhaps or some blackberries. I'm obsessed! Thomas Henry tonic water bottle served on the side so we could add more and sip. Several bars and sitting spaces are nestled together. So wander around and explore all the nooks to drink in. The interior is gorgeous and great people watching if you score a window seat. We had the Irish Charcuterie plate and loved it. Olives, prosciutto, salami, toasty but still soft bread and caramelized onions make for a perfect mid day snack. I'm already planning my next trip back. read more

They have done a terrific job on improving the pub called Thomas Reads that was located here. It's decorated in shades of blue with plenty of marble and wood. The bar staff are knowledgeable and happy too suggest a drink. However it does get busy at particular times such as Friday evening after work. There is a very happy Polish waiter who is a bit outrageous but who is great fun. He is a great presence in the bar and very quick to serve everyone. The have a decent selection of gins and cocktails. read more

Sunk into a plush, deep blue velvet high stools on a busy Saturday afternoon outside, watching life zip by is a lovely, content feeling. Whomever is in control of the play list, well done. The music fits the vipe. The decor is a clash of deep ocean blues with bright smashes of gold framing important historical moments in Irish life. Most notably the rising. The decor creates a personal, time to forget about the world outside atmosphere. I don't see a TV, and I'm happy about that. This is a place to find, stay and chat with friends. I will be bringing my partner and friend's next time. The tap options are mainstream. Franciscan Well is a welcome addition. The rebel red is well worth a try. Sat at the table for nearly 20 minutes before we decided to up and leave. Not sure if they were short staffed or the staff were having a bad night, but can't go back to give them a second chance as I'm only visiting Dublin for a few days. We just had an amazing dinner here. Everything was great from start to finish. My bf and I arrived for a late dinner. We were greeted by a friendly server who quickly set a table for us. The service was excellent and the food was delicious!! We started with a local cheese plate and charcuterie plate. Then, Sautéed Shrimp and Guinness stew for our mains. That was THE BEST Guinness stew I've ever had. The meat was tender and juicy and very flavorful! I was just sad that I could not finish it - just too much food! It has changed little from its previous incarnation, merely adding some blue drapes and turning some seats. I came in after a gig last night to have one for the road, and with 2 shorts with mixer coming in at €19.40 that road ought to have been an all inclusive trip to Route 66.There was only 1 barman on duty who did his best but was utterly swamped, meaning an almost 20 minute wait for service. I accept that normal Tuesdays are quiet, but any manager with an ounce of sense would know to check what's on in the large gig venue 8 doors down and plan accordingly. It was also full of lilies. Terrible Service. Had to ask someone to take our order. Had to ask someone else for silverware. Had to ask about our meals...then they brought one out and forgot the other one. Brought the appetizer out after one of the meals. I ordered a glass of Riesling and it was definitely not Reisling. No one ever asked us anything, we basically had to remind them that we were here. This was my favorite bar while in Dublin. I'm pretty sure we went there every day. It's a relaxed environment- yet looks and feels posh. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly- with great tips for your stay. They have craft cocktails, good wine selection, draft beers and of course, plenty of Irish Whiskey. I think the prices were reasonable as well. I can't say enough nice things about this place! Also- it's adjacent to The Oak, another awesome little pub with a ton of history. read more

Look past the amazingly quirky staff that some may not care for and you have a real jewel among other not so great restaurants (legends). Walking back to Trinity College from the Teeling Distillery we came across the Oak and stopped in fir dinner. My sister had the Rose cocktail which she loved and I drank a lovely dry cider. She ordered the steak Guinness stew and me the shepherds pie. They were served in small iron cauldrons keeping the food piping hot. Delicious and heart fare. read more

So upon entering you notice this opulent world of lush velvets, deep blue walls and upholstery and generally what appears to be a lovely environment. Great location and gorgeous on the inside. From the moment I walked in however I was literally jumped on by a member of staff who wanted to know what I wanted to order. I hadn't even taken my coat off..... I requested a drinks menu and perused the options. A number of glasses of both red and white wine and some house speciality cocktails. All seemed to e around the Negroni option and nothing else really mentioned. After deciding what I was going to order I waited, and waited and waited..... Despite the initial exuberance of seeing me no one seemed to care anymore. I waved and flapped and tried to get the attention of numerous staff but honestly it appeared like they were more interested in chatting at the bar and making sure the curtains were straightened out. Eventually got someones attention and got the drink ordered. It was a decent glass of white. Not quite chilled enough for my liking but ok. Little on the pricey side.
