They only have porta potties but they do survice them regularly. Parking fills quickly.. so come early.

I don't feel there is enough variety of activities for the young professionals in Albuquerque. That said, if you want to get away from the gym, work, life stress, and spend time making friends in a boozy fraternity like atmosphere then this is the right scene for you. It's a great forum for meeting lots of people (if in kickball, it's mostly for drinking and less athletic, with dodgeball it's inverse to that), with a range of interests including drinking, hooking up, and being somewhat athletic (aka glory days). Kickball is great for fun times and making you curse more in a game than you have in a year when your 'fun' team gets crushed by the competitive teams. Dodgeball is crazy competitive and exhilarating in its own way...but the drinks don't flow as much, at least til after the games. Both these leagues, plus the others, reward membership with a T-shirt and 2 open bars (mid and end season parties). Overall for $70 it's a great way to get away to college life again, just be sure to keep your day to day on the DL. No ones got time for your adulting.

If you're part of the "in crowd" calls get made in your favor, and if you're a newbie team or a less than "elite" team, there's really nothing you can do about it. It's also pretty obvious that the league's leadership wants to be well liked by the cool kids because they simply pretend like none of this is going on and any feedback or constructive criticism of the structure falls on deaf ears. Kickball is fun, don't get me wrong, but way too many people in this league think it's all there is to life. You'll find out quickly enough just how awesome their mad kickball skills are because they will let you know constantly...even in the rec/beginner league. If you're looking for a fun, relaxed way to play with people who like kickball, but have a life outside of it...I'd look elsewhere. After more than 5 seasons, I'll be looking for a new league to play in and so will my team. :)

This group of talented people had an newbie orientation and Roller derby being something on my "must do" list, I gave it a shot. I knew very little about the sport and my skating skills are rusty at best but they are motivating and helpful. Once I was a part of the league I was invited to great fundraising events and practices they have at various locations. They pitch in with helping the community and are starting up a youth team. I am smitten by the roller derby world and you will too.

This is the new location for this gym. And a great location! I'm not a great climber. In fact,…read moreit's been quite some time since I have climbed. But I came here with some friends and was really blown away. The last time I did any climbing indoors was in Tucson, which had some nice walls, fun routes and a great vibe. Stone Age blows them away and then some. This place has about a hundred routes (not kidding) of all levels of difficulty, some up to about 40' in height. Lead rope and top rope. And even on a weekend afternoon, no more than a 5 minute wait to climb a route. Add to that two different bouldering areas (climbing fairly low, without need for ropes and such. And really good ones, including walls, overhangs and complete inversions. Is that all? No! They also have a "pro shop" with shoes, harnesses and other accessories, as well as drinks and such. These guys even do parties for the kids as well as instruction. If you've every had an interest in climbing for fun or exercise, this is seriously a world-class place. Prices aren't cheap, but not unreasonable for the facilities. Check it out!

I'm seriously not really into wrestling but my kids are and they have learned a lot from coach Nathaniel. This club is located in a really cool warehouse just off the freeway and 6th street, not to far from downtown. It's very urban, leaving this a unique spot for a wrestling club. We don't get too much of that in Albuquerque. There is a well rounded group of kids of all ages so everyone has great partners. I'm all for kids being involved in what ever it is they choose, as long as they're being active, creative etc.... If it's wrestling you're looking for, look no more! 505 Wrestling Club is the spot!

The girls went to a birthday party here today. It appears that it was an all inclusive package,…read moreexcept for some of the food. The kids took off their shoes and then sat on a spot on the floor. They were instructed on some basics and then did a series of activities including an obstacle course. There was plenty of adult supervision. The dozen kids had the best time ever. Some of the kids may sign up for additional classes. It was a fun Saturday afternoon.

Watching kids splash and squeal under these souped-up shower heads reminds me of the photos I've…read moreseen of kids in NY boroughs, dancing in the spray of a wrenched hydrant, in the midst of a hot, humid summer day. I did grow up with humidity but we kids didn't have to rely on fire hydrants, I could go swimmin' in many of the 10,000 lakes. Anyway, when I'd see those pictures, I always wondered why the kids looked like they were having so much dang fun. It's just a fire hydrant on blacktop, for God's sake. Now I get it. Now that my kiddo loves it, I get it. Spray parks are totally carefree, mom and dad don't need to do much monitoring, and they're a way to simultaneously stay hot and cool, as opposed to the cool down/warm up routine of a pool. This is a terrific spray park with capacity for easily 40 or 50 kids, I'd guess, and it's a terrific way low-cost alternative venue for birthday parties. Lifeguards around here seem to have just one responsibility: (blows whistle) "No running!" Tough job, guys.

This park is tucked away off 4th near Alameda. It is connected to the rec. center. I was a little…read moreput off that there is a charge to attend spray park. However, the fee was only a few dollars (3) for my 1 and 3 year old and there are friendly lifeguards on duty. There are two restrooms and two shower stalls. I'd suggest wearing your suit to the park. There isn't really a great place to change. The building is older and looks a bit run down. You are able to bring in snacks and /or a cooler. The spray park is on a small slab of concrete. There are 6 water features and about a dozen covered picnic tables around the perimeter. I really enjoyed this enclosed park. It was small enough to watch my daughters splash and splash from my shaded seat. I like splash parks because they are more relaxing than taking little kids to the pool (less worry) and the kiddos have just as much fun. My family will definitely make this a regular activity. Behind the splash pad is a park with a full basketball park, baseball field and what looks like a petting zoo (?) that you can see from behind the fence. There are painted murals as well.

I want to say there are maybe 12 courts, very well maintained, most have shaded benches, power outlets available, and score keepers for match play. They host tournaments and often you'll encounter a bunch of people livin' the good retired life, hanging out, sometimes hosting a pot luck. Like the pool next door, this is a great community facility in the summertime, for young and old alike. Concerning the instruction: This complex is the recipient of a USTA grant for beginning players, and it's a cool program; students begin on a tiny court and slowly graduate to bigger nets and bouncier balls, ultimately finishing in Skilled. And because they're employing teenagers, that's the quality of the coaching -- I know all about it, I once taught, when I was that age. As a parent, I'll only suggest to watch carefully. We've had some terrific coaches, some lackadaisical, and seen management that contributes to both. Don't hesitate to bring up your issues with the front desk, so far, ours have been addressed. Hey, the classes are dirt cheap, the facilities and equipment are good (they have a ton of loaner rackets and balls), overall, can't complain.
